Should I buy two and replace both of them while I am at it?

I think that you guys in this section will know best. My and my brother dont exactly know what it is. We sorta have an idea though. We arnt sure if it just needs a new cover, or needs to be replaced. If I do replace it, would it be a good idea to replace the one on the other side with it? This picture helps show roughly were it is at.

Well, I finally purchased my 1971 240z if any of you remember the pics that I showed. Got it for $625! I am going to flush all the fluids in the car and do normal tune up plus a little extra. The engine/tranny has been rebuilt, so all of what I am going to do is replace some of the hoses. What are the best products/options to shoot for? Oil Oil Filter (K&N?) Air Filter (K&N?) Radiator Coolant Water/Coolant mix Spark Plugs Spark Plug wires Battery I might end up flushing these out, just to be safe so what would be some good fluids here if I do flush these? Brake fluid Tranny Fluid (4-Speed manual) Plus what are some good tires. It has the stock 14" rims with 195/(?)65. Stock it was running 175's. I like the rims, so I am going to clean them up and use them instead of getting something new. Should I go back to 175's, get 185's, 195's? or can these rims fit something bigger like 205's or 215's? Should I get wider and bigger tires in the rear then compared to the front? For example, 175/60 front and 195/65 rear. Need to start getting my list made and the prices so that I can send the list and $$ out to my brother so the can start working on it for me :-)

$10k? You should get a 240z for around $1000ish. Then spend that extra money restoring it the way YOU want it. I am getting a 240z for $700. It is in excellent condition for the price and age (see my thread). Though the engine and tranny have recently been rebuilt, atm everything else is running me $1,500 to $2,000 atm to get it the way I want it. New carpet and padding, new vinyl on the seats, new hoses, new windshield, basic maintance, new tires, ect. Could always get a Haynes manule. They are really good, have pictures and are pretty detail on how to do things.
  6. Yeah, that is what I am debating atm. This question is holding back my purchase. I have done some door to door car shipping quotes. I have gotten about 10 of these and the average is $1,000 with the cheapest at $800. Then I have the option to fly out there, fix it up with my brother, and then drive it back. I have already done the searching, and for $1000 I can fly out to California, drive it back ($3/gal avg), feed myself, stay in a cheap motel, get home and immediatly change the oil for <$1,000. Though the road trip could turn out to be a disaster. I will have my brother look a little more for rust. Shouldnt really find too much. The car has been on the California cost. Temps there are always in the 70's for high and in the 50's for the low. Plus it has been in the garage the entire time the second owner had it. (If I get it, I will be the third owner) Just recently it was moved outside because the dude moved out of his house and put it outside. Has yet to pick it up. Only been outside a short time and the time that it has, it has had a skirt over the top of it.

  8. Hello, my name is Luke and I need some advice before I go getting a 240z. A Z car has been my dream car ever since I got into cars, and I am now excited that I now have the oppurtunity to get one!!! Basically, I have the oppurtunity to purchase a Datsun 1971 240z 4-Speed. The car is over in California where my brother lives. I live over in Tennessee and would have to figure out how to get it over this a way. The guy is asking $700 for it. It has a little over 90k miles on it, engine and transmission have recently been rebuilt. It looked to be in very good shape for what it is. It is all stock. Parts of the car do need to be put back on. It comes with a few spare parts also. It does need new carpet, a rear window, and for the carbs to be sync'ed. No body rust found anywhere. Is there anything that I should know about this model? Is it a year not to get? Are their any recommened things to do it? Certain stock parts that are poop and need to be canged out? Is the price to high? What I want to do with this car, is just keep it original. Just get it tuned up and looking like it just came off the production line. Most I might do is get a triple carb kit, and a new exhaust. I have 14 pics here. The car is a little messy, but my brother says that a goods day cleaning will do the trick. All the stuff inside is just all the parts that need to be put back on the car and all the spare parts that it comes with. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z014.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z013.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z012.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z011.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z010.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z009.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z008.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z007.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z006.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z005.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z004.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z003.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z002.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...sun240z001.jpg The car does need a little work. All the work that I can see and that my brother tells me is atm, a'ok. I know that something that is 35 years old is going to have a few things that needs replacing.

Well, good thing that I didnt spend $1.5k on a kit then. What would be some good upgrades that would get me a few more hp. I would like to get the car to be in the 6 second range without adding a turbo/super charger and I dont think that I wouldnt need all that much more power to get this. The triple carbs and the exhaust was all that I could really think of, but I guess it wont do much after all. I still like how the Triple Carbs look though, so if I ever get that much $$ lying around, I still might just do this mod anyways.

Hello all. I have been looking around for a Z car for about 2 years now to purchase. I have finally found one that I am 99% positive that I am going to end up purchasing. It is a 1971 240z. I was thinking about dropping in an LS1 into this beast, but since the engine and tranny have been rebuilt, I dont really have a good reason too. Plus I was only thinking about doing that if I got a newer 240z, or a 280 n/a. But instead I got an older 240z that is still all stock, in great condition so I am going to pretty much leave it this way. Though I would like to get a little more power out of it. I was thinking about getting a triple carb. I was looking at getting a DCOE 40 triple carb kit for it. (three carbs, all the little pieces and the manifold) Would this be a pretty good kit to get? Are there any others out there that would be any better? Can I talk the dual carbs off, put on this triple carb kit and be ready to go? Also, what sort of power increase could I be expecting from a carb upgrade?
