Dead as a door knob - suggestions welcomed...
Same thing happened to my '74 260Z (early) a few years back.. Ignition module was fine, the transistor module in the distributor was the culprit.. Exact same symptom though, no spark at all.. Once it cooled off it would start fine and run for 10-15 minutes then die again. Keep us posted on what you find..

Original Engines vs Aftermarket - Thoughts & Opinions
I don't begrudge anyone with a V-8 in their Z, all it takes is plenty of extra money as 72 OJ clearly pointed out! Like Steve, I prefer the L series for my 260Z.. Does anyone recall the superchargers offered by Jim Cook Racing back in the early 90s? I'd love to get my hands on one of those! I'll bet a supercharged 3.1L Rebello will turn out some very nice HP numbers with just a little boosting from a supercharger.. Just sayin'!

Preparing for Winter
I agree with Julio but if you have to drive it during the winter, you might want to put some weight in the back to help improve traction. I used to put several sand bags over the axles of an old pick-up I used to have to increase the weight over the drive wheels for winter driving. The Z isn't as light as a pick-up but there isn't much weight over the rear axle. Just a thought.

Assembling early 260Z
It's been a while since I've updated this thread, work on the 260 has been slow going to say the least.. I'm back at now so will get more photos posted with the activity. Enjoy..

E-tek RACING '71 Parts Car Resto
Great progress Ed, keep up the great work! I'm in the middle of the same type of project on my '74 260Z.. Almost two years in and it's finally going back together. Just got the engine and transmission installed yesterday! Thanks for sharing and keep the photos coming! Tom

Exhaust stud lock washers
The nuts used on the exhaust and intake manifolds are essentially self-locking because they are slightly out of round. This is why you won't find lock washers on them. Hope this helps..

260Z differntial flange bolt torque
I snapped one of these bolts as well.. After double-checking the manual thinking I misread the torque value, it was clear there was an error made in printing. I certainly wasn't going to snap two of them, so mine are hand tightened to what felt about right. Probably not the best solution but I don't abuse or expect much from my Z so I figure it'll probably be ok. The bad bolt theory is a stretch but then again I'm no metallurgist.

Anyone want new door cores made out of fiberglass for the vinyl kits?

Carpet - Molded or sectional?
I'm sorry to hear about the experience you had with this carpet kit.. Thank you very much for sharing the experience, I am nearing this point in the refresh of my early 260Z and will make other plans. I'll look forward to seeing the rest of the pics you speak of.

Assembling early 260Z
I'm excited about the Isis Power system for two reasons.. First and foremost it will allow me to disable the ignition, making the car much harder for someone to steal. Second, it is completely programable and completely replaces all the old wiring. Last thing I want is for the old system to short out and catch fire after all this work.. I like your photo, it's hilarious!

Assembling early 260Z
Thanks Fico.. It's too early for me to tell with the Isis system but it seems like a great system. High quality components, detailed instructions and good customer support so far. Can't complain! Will keep you posted on the ease of installation as well as my impressions of the operation once it gets to that point. Seems nice and straight forward to me.. How'd you get your cat to hold still with that bread around his noggin? I'd like to hear that story..

Assembling early 260Z
Sounds like you're making great progress Ollie!! My progress is slow but sure.. I've been insulating the inside of the 260Z with HushMat. Finished it earlier this month before I left for work. It took 84 square feet to do it the way I wanted it done. Tried my best to waste as little as possible so it looks in places like a preschooler's art project.. But I didn't waste any.. Also cleaned up the engine and painted the block, need to do the same to the transmission before install. The trans was leaking a bit when it came out so will have to sort that out before it goes back together as well. I've got the Isis Power Master and Power Cells mounted and the harnesses labeled. You can see the Master Cell in the passengers foot well area. I'm looking forward to have a modern, programmable electrical system in the car. Won't get home again until late July so it'll be a while until I can work on it some more. The next step is putting in some of the interior pieces, specifically the windshield pillar covering so the windshield can be installed. The mechanicals and underside of the car will be done once the engine and transmission are installed. Need to find someone to recover my seats and door panels. Then it's all just glass and interior. Keep up the good work Ollie and watch for more updates around the beginning of August.

Assembling early 260Z
No Ollie, I used only the stock rubber "pucks" that were originally glued to the top of the tank. There was no closed cell foam on top of my tank when I dropped it out of the car the first time in 2006.

Debadging: Yes or no?
A previous owner shaved all the badges except for the vent badges on my early 260Z. I like the vent badges so I left them in place during the rotisserie refresh currently in process but went a bit further by filling the antenna and side marker light holes. May have a hard time registering it any state with an inspection program; in which case I'll come up with something for the side marker lights..

New JDM Style Spoiler lanched!
Glad to see some new parts for our cars as well. This looks like a cross between the kaminari and BRE air dam. I have a kaminari on my 260Z that I have had modified to fit the lines of the car a bit better, in my opinion that is.. Will photos if anyone is interested in the comparison..

Just purchased this beautiful 1970 Datsun 240Z Series 1
What a fantastic find!! Enjoy all the attention the two of you are certain to get in Japan.. It's a shame to leave this car in Japan but you will certainly receive an offer too good to refuse at some point during your stay over there.. Very cool!!

My Z build
Good work Jonu, your 240Z will be alive and kicking before you know it! I followed the same procedure on my early 260Z back in 2006 after the car sat for 11 years and it ran great for two years when I found a Rebello 3.1L stroker to put in it. So you need the rear hatch glass seal? I just bought one for my brother-in-laws '73 240Z last week, from Nissan. I go to them first as they still have a great number of parts for these cars. When I first started down this road, I bought quite a few parts from ebay but later learned that nearly everything on ebay was available from Nissan at a lower price with free shipping. I use my local Nissan dealership but others use Courtesy Nissan. Again, nice work and keep the updates coming! Tom

Clutch recommendations
Hey Ben.. The 3.1L Rebello in my 260Z makes about the same power and I'm using a 225mm Centerforce II clutch on the stock flywheel in my 260Z and have had no problems at all.. FWIW
