  1. It's an interesting thing age... In your late teens/early twenties girls will do that kind of thing in a car because you have... a car. As time goes on and age gets the better of you the requisite becomes something more like a nice house, really good looks, $$$ or some other damned good reason to get freaky. Perhaps it's the newness of experience and wanting to try it all.. The risk of getting caught/busted. After you've done the Kama Sutra and a few hundred other twists the car seems to loose it's appeal. I guess the only way an "old fart" like most of us would abuse the Z in such a fashion is if it were a very unusual occasion. I just wish someone like myself was telling me all of this 18 years ago. It would have saved some confusion and I probably would have tried some more daring stuff. (Just for my personal history books) Yes, I can wear "the badge". And even w/o the badge I had an extremely rowdy early life in the good days when herpes and pregnancy were your only fears. Jim
  2. ROFLROFLROFL Nice! I think you need a little help maybe. It's not that easy in a Z for some reason. I got the full recline mechanisms out of a '72 and things were still kind of awkward even though I'm 5'-10". The Z is not condusive to making out or anything. It seems that the geometry of the seats doesn't lend itself to leaning over for very long. Handholding and quick, "just making sure they are OK" boob grabs are pretty much the comfortable limit in a 240. When I was doing the bodywork I got a few laughs when shrinking and filling some dent/depressions on the rear hatch. That was where most of my "action" was spent. The girlfriend loved to go for "long rides" on the Z. If we were stuck "in a car" her Sentra was the best! The Sentra's seat angle, recline and width made it the perfect F'in machine. The funny thing is that all of that whacky kinky sh!# has pretty much disappeared after being married ten years. God it sucks getting old and growing up! Don't think I could PAY the Mrs enough to shag in any car. Like the Brian Adams song said... "Those were the best days of my life". When I hear people preaching abstinence it makes me cringe. They should be preaching/practicing resposible sex and letting the youth enjoy what nature gave 'em... 2c
  3. Might just be that your timing is waaay off. I'd try twisting the dizzy/crank/retry a few times before going into diagnostic mode. Do you have a points style dizzy in a box you could try? I haven't played with the pertronix setup so I don't know what the wiring is like. If you could try an old breaker point dizzy you could at least run a wire from the battery to verify that it isn't something in the harness or setup. You asked and 1-5-3-6-2-4 is right. Dumb question but I'm assuming you tried a test plug on the block while cranking right? Tried spraying starter fluid? If you haven't either of these should help narrow it down to mechanical, fuel or electrical. With a points type dizzy there is a technique for setting the ignition using a regular light bulb. (Engine not running but being turned by hand) My error when installing everything in the engine compartment was to switch the wires to the coil and ballast. I had 12V during running and 6V during start instead of the right way. (Killed the coil then realized what I did.) The pertronix setup might just be a 12V/fulltime kind of thing. 2c

    Xbox360

Yeah my 360 "forgot" my user profile twice. Kinda sucks since I use the HD very little. You would think that it would do this kind of thing a few years down the road. Still have the regular Xbox which was bought two months after release. It's HD is fine. I only play Halo (1,2,3). Megadeth240 is my XboxLive username.
  5. Immaculate barely get's it. It's magnificent! What a nice job the PO did. Sweet! As always Diseazd comes through with more breathtaking shots. You should try your hand at runway models or something. Beautiful car. Jim
  6. Congrats 1fastz on the achievement! Very nice! 1800 miles so far and still going.. That's great. Have you taken it to a dyno or run it hard through any 1/4 mile tracks yet? I'd be interested in the times/data. As far as port design goes what would you do if you could make it from scratch? I have a relative who has worked in a head shop who could give input but I'd prefer to hear from someone who has focused on our motors. Here's a couple pics of some head castings I've made. They are for an L-head air cooled motor and are a far cry from the 24 valve I-6 undertaking. The fins could be smaller but I was using permanent mold. I'll do lost foam on the I-6 of course.
  7. Well.. Not quite this year but.... Sex Love & Zparts http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0807730/ and for the preview... another preview.... http://www.dailymotion.com/tag/shorts/video/238883 This came up in the board some time ago. Can;t wait to see it in Orlando.
  8. Is it just me or does Darbij get hotter with every pic?? Nice one Darb!!
  9. ROFLROFLROFLROFL Dude! You should have pasted that picture sitting in a Z! That would be something to roll over. I'll bet he (Fabian his name?) has a giant beer gut and can't find his vienna sausage anymore due to fat rolls. Kinda makes it hard when you want to attach your prosthetic manhood emulation device. Any guy who is built like him would need one.
  10. Machining a crankcase for seven cylinder radial. Jim
  11. Oh no. I don't need to replace them. Made the new ones out of stainless. They're rock solid but someday I'll get around to making some stock look-alikes. I was in a bit of a hurry to get the pan job done on mine. The profile of the aftermarket pans is different than the original Z pans even though they look similar. Wonder if the bad dog part matches this profile and if they have all of the stampings and creases in all the right places. It would be best to fab some pans to match the originals exactly for those of us who are "purists". I'm not quite there though. Hope I don't start anything with that "purist" comment given the events of a few days ago. Jim
  12. I really like the style of this board. It beats the crap out of the free Yahoo message board that I'm currently using for another hobby. Is it possible to purchase the software or lease the space? How does one get this sort of service? If I remember right this board is hosted out of a private residence right?? Currently I'm using homestead (read simple/easy to use) as my server for a website. Would it be possible to somehow run this through an outside computer... cheaply? I don't want to screw up/ slowdown my connection so that Halo3 games aren't thrown. Thanks for any advice. Jim
  13. Don't know if this helps but here is a pic of mine. Large black wire goes into harness FWIW. The "other" object meaning the noise suppresor?? It looks like the condenser on your distributor. Don't worry about the noise suppresor. Take a voltmeter and see if the alt is working. 13.6-14.2 volts is the normal voltage that should be read at the battery posts during running. By all means reconnect the wire though. My Z is a 2/71
  14. The profile doesn't quite match the old seat mounts. They can be modified a bit and will work though. It would be nice as an add-on to the floor pan kit to offer some matching OEM style seat mounts and crossmembers. Mine were so badly rusted I could only save one and eneded up fabbing the others. The holes are non-standeard. (at least on what I had to work with) I'd either bore new holes to match the ID of the stock ones or find a replacement plug from a modern vehicle.
  15. They are VERY nice pans. I installed a set for another member about a year ago. Took about two days. (Had to wait for Ospho to do it's thing after sandblasting) Best thing to do is grab a set of calipers or a bolt (means of measuring ID) and hit a junkyard for a new plug. Don't think I saw any plugs in the "Help" aisle of my local parts store. I'm sure at the very least you can find a plug in the junker and possibly order it new from whatever dealership.
  16. Such a head would have better VE for sure. Tweaking it though... I'd like to find out what the secret is to making a good seal on the "valve" face of such a head though. What about carbon on the exhaust side? Grinding a new seat/socket looks to be more like replacing the head. (Or at least sending to manufacturer for remachining. It is extremely cool though.
  17. A variation but most importantly a single piece new casting. I'm just debating whether to try an N/A version first or go straight to forced induction. It would be easier to make a non N/A head as far as port design goes. Since the person buying it would obviously want to install valves/seats/cams suited to their needs it makes sense to leave those things out.

    Gas Tank

Here is a link to a tank refurbishing page I made. It's dangerous work and is best entrusted to a shop or Renu. http://warbuddies.homestead.com/gastank.html
  19. I mentioned this at the beginning of the thread. The question is... How many of us would be interested in slapping a DOHC head on our Z's and what would be the price range desired? If one day you found one on E-bay what would you be willing to spend? (Knowing that the head was a proven design of course) Remember, this is more of a bolt on type of thing rather than fitting a whole new powerplant/drivetrain.
  20. Yes that's it! I cast aluminum as part of a hobby. Talking with Norm Simpers about this head got me wondering about taking a swing at casting such a head. Of course I'd have to make a much larger furnace and crucible but it could "easily" be done with a lost foam casting. I also have some light machine shop equipment which could tackle some aspects of the rough machining of said casting. I'd want to entrust the rest to someone with a Serdi machine and other high end equipment. After looking at the simplicity of the OS Giken cam towers and hearing the gripes about the thinness of the OSG ports I'm just trying to get a feel of what changes would be needed to make a better 4 valve head. I've cut up a few 4valve heads and observed the thickness/cross sections of the parts. Having that knowlege make the task a bit easier. Designing the ports would prob find me just copying a similar heads ports. If I were to be able to test and produce such heads I'm just trying to see what kind of interest there is. Jim

    No Spark

It would probably be easier to just get a JY dizzy. There are articles on converting the later model dizzys for use on early Z's. It probably is the module or it's pickup. Not being able to see what brand/type it is hampers things. Are you able to take a picture and post it? I'm sure it could be identified quickly. Take a pic of the module and have the cap off so we can see the insides. 2c Jim
  22. I'm sure there is SOME interest in reviving the idea of a 4 valve head for our L-series. Sure, it would be easier to bolt in a V-8 or other engine but I'm talking about a certain coolness factor here. Carl, If I knew some specifics about the ease of construction of the rotary valve head I'd definitely mention that as a possibility. I imagine there is some sealing going on between the cam and the head... More than could be had by just machining to close tolerances. Such a head would be way cool though. So far I'm getting the impression that there is no real interest in reviving the 4 valve but I imagine there might be if someone made one. The real question is how much could someone justify spending for the aforementioned "bare" head. Maybe I need to make a poll.
  23. What the hell is this?????ROFLROFLROFL You mean you've never seen a convertible Z before. It was a factory option... And if you beleive that then I've got some other stuff I'd like to sell you. Years ago I had a friend who visited New York. He came back with quite a story and having seen the first convertible Z. (Quite possibly the first) All I could think was "WHY would anyone want to do that?? Maybe a tree fell on it or there was some severe hail damage. Maybe he rolled off a hill while driving the dragon:)
