Noisy choke
Greetings all. Spent some quality time with the Zed today, if you really wanna call it that. The first mission of the day was to get it started, its been sitting for ~3 months since it ran last, and it was a bit chilly today, about 40 degrees F. Well, mission failed. First thing, the choke cable broke. Took me a couple of hours and several adjusments, but I got that back together. So I apply the choke and turn the key, and it was making a very odd noise. Best way I can describe it is that it sounded like I could hear the piston moving inside of the cylinder with a rythmic burping sound. Might be normal, but I'd never heard it before. It was more quiet with less choke applied, and gone with 0 choke. I'm a newb to carbs, as this is the first vehicle I've owned that has them, but I've driven several and never heard this noise. Anybody have some insight? Setup:'71 240z with triple Mikunis. Engine was rebuilt a few years ago but I still don't know the specs on the rebuild.

Quick question for you guys. Is there and distinguishing part numbers or stampings on the Mikunis that I can look for? I'm having problems getting ahold of the PO, just trying to figure out what size and model they are. Searching hasn't turned up much helpful info yet. TIA.

Thanks for all the kind words fellas. I'll definately track down some of you Carolina locals when I get home, I love having geek outs and team wrenching days. Something about burgers, beer, and fellow enthusiasts that I really enjoy.

Up here the winters are VERY dry. And they use sand/gravel instead of salt on the roads.

Yeah I still can't really believe that I found it up here, and got it for $2500. From what I've been able to see so far there is VERY little rust on it. I'll be moving to Iron Station, NC, just north of Charlotte. I'm currently Active Duty Air Force, but I separate in December. As for the screen name, its a nickname I picked up a while back, and I can't even remember how. It just kinda stuck.

Greetings all. I picked myself up a '71 240z not too long ago and couldn't be any happier with it. It's got triple Mikuni's, 6-2-1 header, and some kind of body kit on it as of right now (that's how I bought it). The L24 was also rebuilt about a year ago, still trying to find out the exact specs of the rebuild. I believe, but am not certain that it has an aftermarket cam in it as well, as the idle is a bit choppy but it SCREAMS above ~4500 rpm. I've always wanted a Z, and am still in shock that one this clean fell into my lap, in Alaska of all places. I also own 3 other Nissans, an '87 Pulsar XE, a boosted B13 ('92) Sentra SE-R, and a '93 240sx. The Pulsar and Sentra are on the market right now to provide some extra funding to the Z restore and build. When I return home (NC) in a few months it'll be getting a complete restore along with some suspension and drivetrain work, just haven't decided on the powerplant yet.
