What's wrong with the 280's?
Where Stephen stated, my 7/76 says 170...She has plenty of pep for this 'ole man...I adore my 280, even though I've been having some charging problems as of late. I plan on keeping her till I can no longer drive... Chris

electrical problem
Can a dead short come and go? Can an alternator also work off and on?? I'm still having trouble with my 7/76 not charging. I live 30 miles from the closest "parts store" to test, but I guess I'll take the battery and alternator in for load testing. Any other possibilities I'm over looking? Chris...

What is the difference?
No stupid questions if 'ya don't know the answer...! 2+2 is a few inches longer than the regular Z and has back seats. I've never sat in one but would imagine it to be pretty tight... Chris...

Fuel mixture problem...fpr???
I start with the little stuff cause usually that's what it is. Have you changed all of your filters? Checked plugs, wires etc... That's where I would start, but trust me, you will get more and better input. Chris...

My car needs premium, I'd rather it didn't.
Mine definately pre-fers the premium stuff...! I've thought about going cheaper and getting an octane booster additive, but I figure if she runs good on .20 cents per gallon more ....why add an additive...? Any thoughts...??? Chris...

Factory Wheel Options on '78?
Not a purist but my books tell me to run the 195/70R14 on my '76 280. I have also been told that the wheelsw I have were a factory option? They are, as close as I can tell a "Western" type alum. alloy, with closer together spokes than I have yet to find pictures of...? Member "76datsun280z" has the closest so far. Any thoughts...? Chris...

electrical problem
I had a similar problem which was/is (hopefully) corrected just by replacing both battery cables. My '76 is running like a top again and the volt meter matches closley to the volt meter in the car. Hope this helps... Chris...

Charging trouble on my '76
I got in today for a ride and she barely turned over and started. Volt meter showed 12-13 but rapidly fell. I shut her off and waited about an hour and then tried again but to no avail...wouldn't even try to turn over. Battery and alternator have recently checked out to be o.k. Any Ideas would be appreciated... Chris

Series one defroster switch
It was the Nissan dealer there in the city different. I have a '76 (7/76) so age might be a problem here. The Subaru was an '88 Justy's defrost switch. You might also try Metric Motors in Taos @ 758-1658. They do my work that I can't. Chris

Series one defroster switch
Hey HH, I found mine off of an old subaru. Also, have you tried the dealer in Santa Fe? They have been able to get a few things for me but, high priced. Also, you might try Airport Auto Salvage as I beleive they have a few Z's on the lot. Glad to see another "New Mexican" on board... Chris

just wanted to see how old everyone is here?

how much did you pay for you're Z?
beandip said it all..."It's a labor of love" I paid $1400. for my '76-Z from a mechanic/friend of mine that got her from a salvage yard. I found out later that he paid only $400 for her. I have put about 3k into her and will be doing paint soon. I Love this car more and more every day and would not take less than 10 k as she sit's right now...!

Hey Gang. I have a '76 280Z that up till now has been running like a pro! I noticed a slight miss and after a quick glance found that the coil wire was melting at the distributor. All four fuseable links are intact. Thought I would ask for help before I dig into it.... Thanks...Chris'sZ
