I baught the car from a real IPO! Idoiot Previous Owner!
I think it is normal to find all kinds of strange things in an older car. the previous owner may not have been a factory trained specialist from Nissan, I am sure he did his best job (s)he knew how to do. BUT, I would hope that the p owner would have had the up frontness to tell you what had been done to the car, if you had asked, or maybe you did ask, I dont know that. just my 2¢ .

Centerline 17" wheels
, if you are changing the tire size, and rim size, does this have any effect on your speedometer reading?? ( sorry didnt mean any disrespect, by jumping into your thread) example, if you are adding lower profile tires, the tires must spin faster to achieve the same speed as a larger sized tire?? I do believe.

Mechanical Fuel Pump Studs #, Tranny Drain Plug
no pic, but my 72 has 2 studs on the upper, and a bolt, (that I stripped) on the lower. I am debating tomaybe add a third stud to fix the stripped lower one.

off to the body shop??
I HEAR GUYS SAY, well, I am off to the frame shop, or, oh yea, my local welder put the floor pans in, ect, ect. Well, I don’t seem to know any frame guys, welder guys, "Z" guys, or any paint guys. My town has, from what I see no special interest guys at all. Only the usual suspects, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, and in Ct. Bob Sharp Nissan, good old #33 if you all know what that means. Sharp Nissan told me, even though Bob Sharp won several races in the 70's with his Z, they don’t do work on them....... Any direction, or suggestions for either paint guys, frame, and or rust repair guys, or a place to get info would be great. I live in south Salem, New York, 10 minutes from ct. zip code 10590. If not, I will start calling around, and I guess help is only through word of mouth.

Throw in the towel?
I feel like you do sometimes too, i have had my z for about 7 to 9 years now, and , cant recall that i have ever driven it, maybe once or twice. It is in a storage garage I pay for each month, and i work on it like 5 days a year. I am also rebuilding the house i live in with my wife and 2 children, with a 3rd on the way in April 07, and working a 50 hour week at my job, all in all, I know the car will be there for me, when i can get away from it all, for me working on my z is a pleasure, totally takes my mind off all my daily stress, and i get into my own world, just me ,and my z. aaaaahhhh, life is good. my house is almost done, and my family is not getting any larger, so more time for my Z !!!! now that is what i have been waiting for ..

Anyone else got Gas in the Oil ??
Good notes on the problem, I appreciate the inputs. I changed the fuel pump today, although the car is still not in running condition yet, and to my surprise, the lower of the three attachment devices to hold the fuel pump onto the motor is a bolt, and I see now this bolt, has "stripped" the threads out from the hole that this bolt is supposed to go into. now, I have 2 ideas, first is to get a tap, or a die, and twist this thing a tad larger, and the 2nd idea is to try to put the bolt in reverse, so from the inside of the motor, and coming out, so I can put a nut on it from the outside. i would prefer the first option, but think i might get some metal shavings inside the motor, unless i can stuff a rag in there to hold out all the bad things, so they don’t go into the motor. Let me know if you all have any ideas, or know something that surely is to work in this. I am sure I don’t have to replace the whole head. -CP-

Anyone else got Gas in the Oil ??
OK , I have searched so far, and no luck. I , although be it, 9 years ago, changed the oil in my 72 Z, and after only 3 to 5 miles of driving, get a quart or so of gasoline in the motor oil..... i suspect a bad fuel pump?? i got a new one, but the car isn’t running yet, i need to get some other parts, and try it out. I was just wondering if any one else can give some feedback on this gassy mess. ps. the car at that time was new to me, so I don’t know if i did something to cause this, or if the fuel pump just cra**ed out. being the fuel pump is stuck in the side of the motor and all. thanks .

Wow! Thanks . I got some good reading in today. My wife doesn’t like that I spend so much time on my Z, on the Internet, and in starting the restore. But, she is working, and I am home alone, so... it works out well. I will keep the pics, and updates as I can, and as I get the time to do some work.

i am new, and am just starting a restore
Hello all, I have alot of reading to do before I start asking for tips. I am first out, sanding the exterior of my zipper, and want to prime, or etch, or something liker this to keep the rust out. And am looking for some suggestions on bare metal paint prep. I will got the paint shop next week and ask for suggestions, and try Togo to a car paint shop, and see if they can do the whole deal for me, Oh, and i got more, but one step at a time. Thanks to all out there, together we can win !!!!!!!!!! :)
