how much did you pay for you're Z?
Holy Crap, 35K? We should have more buyers like that. Then Z's market values would be growing similar to the housing market and most of us could be very wealthy in a short span of time, albeit, Zless.

Tidewater Z Car Club Show May 19th
In case you all didn't know, Tidewater Z and POMOCO Nissan are once again sponsoring there own Z Car Show. Saturday, May 19, 2007, 10am till ? Judging should start around 11ish. POMOCO Nissan is located in Hampton, VA 1134 W Mercury Blvd just off I64. This is also a peoples Choice Show. It's also the event of the year for this club. Last years show drew over 50 Zs and some fantastic weather. There is a registration fee. I'm not sure how much as of this writing. There are also trophys awarded and prizes to be had. Last years profits went to the Food Bank. Hope to see some new faces as well as cars this year.

New Grille
I was referring to Graham53s thread from McNichols. The grille is awesome, but way out of my price range. As for whats in there now, I have pretty much already done restoration of the original grille. It's that large gap between the top and bottom that concerns me. I'll look into some old parts and see if I can't make something for now, till then???

Your first Z car...
I was a 30 year old Sergeant in the Army, Ft Eustis VA. The year, was 1988. I needed to replace the piece of crap Chevy I had since coming back from Germany. I was looking at a late model Civic, they were still boxie then, when my wife beckoned me over to the 260. First thing I said was, wheres the kid supposed to sit in one of those? That's when she pointed out the back seat...Needless to say, I was sold instantly. Still have it 19 years later and wouldn't dream of letting her go.:knockedou

Is $20,K too much? on top of the original purchase price in 1988 of $5K. Whew...it's all about what makes you happy. God and I both know I'll probably never get that back, but that dosen't mean my grandson won't one day. It was nearly perfect when I bought it and remains so today. I'd venture to say it's one of the sweetest 2+2 cars around.Thats my 2 cents.

New Grille
I got a qoute of over $1100. for the type of grille your thread showed. It is by far the best looking one offered IMO. Sadly I can't swing it right now. So I may resort to making one myself from billet? What do you think, anyone out there ever done that before?

Painting - Stripes or No Stripes
Enrique, What are you, a public school teacher by day? That has to be some of the best advice I've seen in a while. I couldn't have said it better, without actually doing the work myself.

Off goes my baby...
If your man stays with the same paint line, and I can't see why he would do otherwise. The color match should'nt be any problem at all. Also, as it looks like the door jambs and inner hatch jamb will be painted with the exterior, if there was a diffrence in color from the single stage to the basecoat, it would most likely be too subtle to notice. Thanks for asking, John

Any of you own a 2+2?
Mine is a 74.5. I've owned it since Spring 88. Was a one owner and in excellent condition then and still is now, after a four year resto.Did the MOD thing though, the 260 needed carburation help the day it left the factory. I plan on putting some pics in the gallery soon as the weather breaks for more then a few hours.

Off goes my baby...
Sweet. The floor looks every bit as good as a new car. To bad it's all gonna be covered with carpet, but excellent documentation for the enthusiasts in us all! Now, to go real overboard...I'd like to see you sand out any runs, dust nibs etc..and polish them up before covering w/carpetLOL

Painting - Stripes or No Stripes
Hey Biker, I've only seen one green on a Z and it was leaning towards British Racing Green...Not very pretty IMO. Your green is one that will catch everyones eyes, like it or not. I like it!!! As for the stripes not being perfect enough for some of you out there, I suggest you try doing it sometime, it's not as easy as you think, and going over hood scoops and body lines can be all the more challenging. For a first time effort, I'll give you an A for just having the nads to try it. I've done quite a few stripe jobs like this over the years and believe me when I tell you, they don't come cheap.

Deciding on a color...

First Z
You got your self one great deal IMO. Personnaly, I think the 260 is usually found with low mileage because most of there owners tired easily of those hot and cold starting problems associated with some change that was made after the 240s run. Fuel injection in the 280 settled that once and for all apparently. anyway the 260 seemed to be parked more then driven. Just my 2 cents. I have to admit, changing over to the triple Webber Carbs was a butt kicking experience, costly, but worth it...everybody likes the look and the performance diffrence is like driving a new car. Good Luck with your project. I know the kids will learn alot....

240z ass
Gotta Love that turqoise blue guide coat...What color you gonna put on it?

Off goes my baby...
Steve, don't let the black primer be of concern. It's an inexpensive and time saving way to not miss anything. I've been doing this 31 years now and I know what I'm talking about. Black primer when wet will look just like a shiny black finish, and I think we all know what black will do for a finish (make it or break it). I feel like your Z is gonna be awesome, regardless of what color you use simply by the details in the photos. Not alot of shops out there these days that will perform that type of service. But if anyone is in the VA Beach/Newport News/Williamsburg area of Virginia and would like me to give your Z a look, give me a shout @ 757-877-1100 and ask for John (The Z Guy). Check out some thumbnails on my thread "A17 on a 280". Not a complete resto, but about a month long job changing color, installing all new rubber, glass,etc..

New Grille
Thanks. I'll look into it ASAP. I'm gonna do something soon and when I do, I'll be sure to send a photo...John

Heres an A17 280
As promised, got her done in just over a month. It's a customers car so please don't be too harsh about those mud guards, and body side mouldings!!!

New Grille
I removed my bumpers and would love to have something like that to fill in that weird looking hole up front that is now so" in your face". Let me know where I might be able to get some. Thanks, John

A little morale support please.....
I can honestly say I have somewhere in the neighborhood of $16K in reciepts on hand...and that dosen't count one penny of my labor which is probably underestimated at $5K to $6K. I know I'll probably never see that kind of figure in a sale, but who knows in 20 years what could be the great deal. NOT SELLING ANYWAY, so it dosen't matter much now does it?

Roof racks for a Z
Judging by the number of posts youv'e made I gather your somewhat of a "Z" expert. My mechanic and "Z" Guru in the Tidewater area is Todd Wagner and he too informed me about the roof rack that was available from Datsun "Back In The Day" and if my memory serves me correctly he may still have one himself. I'll have to give it a look, as I can't imagine for the life of me putting anything on such a small space. Too cool!

need body kit for 78 280z(2+2)
Anytime I see 2+2, I wanna see some pics.Let's see what you end up with and how it's installed. I thought about doing the whole kit at one time myself but decided to save weight and length. Lost the bumpers, shaved the bolts, welded everything up and smoothed it all out. What do you think?

Drip rails -- removal?
Hope I'm not too late on this one. The belt moulding is what your referring to at the top edge of the door, bottom edge of the glass. Start removing it at the mirror end of the door first and you probably won't get near the glass before the rest of it just popps off. This way you'll avoid getting any prying tool too close to the glass and risk any breakage.

roll bar
IMO it's so much faster and less annoying to buy it and install...Unless you can bend pipe, weld pipe, grind it, finish it, pad it etc...it just dosen't seem like a great way to spend quality time to me, just my 2 cents.

Sanding ?
If this is your first attempt, and it's Single Stage at that...Youv'e done very well young Jedi. When you step up to BC/CC you should get even better results, as in my opinion, single stage paint may be easy enough to do, but a good BC paint is heaven. Keep it up and post those pics as you progress, and as E said earlier, paint only when you have everything you need and can do the complete job at one time. Trying to colormatch anything with so little experience would not be adviseable. I paint everyday and can say that it's the least favorite part of the job.

Need thoughts for paint scheme...
Is the 280 hood there to help the L28 breathe better? You've got a decent looking Z there. Early 260 too! Go nuts and post a pic when you finish I'd like to see that completed!
