distributor vs. electronic ignition
I just went thru my distributor, had a bad coil, and went with the petronix. So far so good. If you go this route save all the stuff you pulled and put it in a zip-lock and keep it in the car. As soon as i find another distributor (cheap) I'll set it up with points and keep it in my cubbie. Then if it (petronix) dies its just 2 10mm 's and pop in the distrib and your off and running.

Just dies, feels electrical
I did replace the wire off the starter that powers the car, the original had 5 or so wires left! No insulation! But great question on whether or not my gas guage still has movement, after it dies, if it didn't that would indicate I'm losing 12 from somewhere else. Thanx!!

Just dies, feels electrical
blew out gas lines, drained tank (you gotta love that they put a plug down there) clean gas in fuel filter, checked connections at coil, ballast etc and they are aliitle crusty. Could very well be problem. I'll clean them up during lunch break. It just seems strange that it would die that fast and after a couple minutes fires right up. Thats why I'm thinkin somthing gets hot and fails. Thanks for all the input so far I'll be implementing all of 'em

Just dies, feels electrical
Hi Folks, My Z is on the road!!! My first one. After sitting a few years I got it back on the road, rebuilt carbs, new brakes, fluid changes etc. Been driving it in the 'hood with no problems so i took it to work this morning. It died, kinda. It's like you shut of the ignition switch. Boom dead. Then after cranking it over a few minutes it starts. Five minutes later, boom dead. I'm thinking some electrical is heating up. Ballast resistor? Points condensor? Any Ideas? Thanx

unisync
I've seen them anywhere between 19.99 and 40.00. If my memory serves right I've seen one in Hot VW's for 20 bucks.

Bubbly coolant- H/gasket??
Dan the engine block and head have water jackets, passages that allow water to flow around the cylinder walls and up into the head around the combustion chamber. If the head gasket blows between the combustion chamber and a water jacket, on the compression stroke it blows the air into the water, bubbles. Kinda like a straw in water, when ya blow you get bubbles. Except its 160 or so psi through a small usually pin size hole,at first then it gets bigger. Dave

Pre-formed hoses
Hello Zer's Since I'm new to the Z, I just picked up a 72 240. I've gone through the brakes and am now in the engine compartment. These cars seem to use alot of pre-formed hoses. Where can you get them at a fair price? I would like to stay with the stock braided type. My vacuum brake assist hose is in real bad shape and would like to replace it, along with all the other hoses. This car has been sitting for a few years and I'd like it to be my daily driver. Thanks in advance, Dave

Stuck drum

Introduce yourself to the class?
Hello Names Dave aka 59ghia. Live in South San Francisco CA. I'm a car nut to the nth degree. Was at the yacht club (nothing snooty, just a place to hang out and drink adult beverages) And was talkin cars with one of the older members, he said he had an old Z in the garage he wanted to get "rid" of. My ears perked up and I asked him "how much you want for it?" He said "he** you can have it!" I withheld my complete exuberance and said ok Couple days later it was in my driveway. Its a 72 that sat around 2-3 years. currently going through the brakes (see my post), and Rebuilding carbs. Compression is good, no under body rust, but some bubbling on rear hatch ledge. Should be a solid driver. My "other" cars, starting from the oldest are 2 1959 volkswagens a sunroof sedan and a karmann ghia. The ghia is my toy. Its running a 2 litre with weber 48idas, ported and polished heads engle 130 cam, scat nitrited crank with chevy journals, 5.5 inch chromoly rods, roller rockers. it stops with 4 wheel disks. A 1966 Dodge dart convertable, 273 v8, An 87 BMW 325i (wifes car) And an 89 Ford taurus sho (the family flier). E-gads!! What a mouthfull! Of course theres my wife who puts up with all my hyjinks (gotta love her!) And two girls 8 and 10, who fight over what car they get when their sixteen. Can you say "chevy cavalier?" I'm also into anything old, furniture, clocks etc. Thats my story and I'm stickin' to it. Dave

Stuck drum
Hello fellow Zers New to the game here. Just picked up a 72 and am currently going through it. (It's been sittin' around a few years) I am not able to get one of the drums off. Backed off the adjuster, soaked with wd-40 and beat the tar out of it with a soft blow hammer. Ok, I started with some gentle taps. Tried heatn' it, pullin it and pryn' it. Any other ideas? Seems like a real tight tolerance around the axle. Helpp! Thanks Dave
