  1. Will, I've heard that warning not to let the car "bog" in 5th elsewhere, but I've never actually SEEN anyone's engine go bad from that either.

I've got an Atari sign, like you'd hang over an arcade machine, but it's not from antiquity, and the bulb is burned out....
  3. Wasn't there a third Smokey? Actually, that was a reference to Clerks II when one of the cashiers gets into an argument with some kids that are obsessed with Lord of the Rings, while he is an old school Star Wars nerd. Really funny scene, only mildly relevant to the topic at hand. Here is a link to the video, but watch out for the language (it's pretty bad at the end there....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewr5Ady6Wow -quick trip to www.imdb.com turned up this:
  4. There's only ONE trilogy, and it doesn't have any hobbits in it.... "you sounded taller on the radio..."
  5. I've heard George Lucas try to explain that line by saying that (I'm paraphrasing here, it's been awhile since I watched the special features on the episode 4-6 dvds) "A fast ship was one that had the best navigation system, and could figure out a shorter route to get somewhere." Sounded like he was sort of waffling, trying to cover up for his technical error. What I always wanted to know is why he had to edit in Jabba the Hutt in such an amatuerish fashion...Jurrassic Park looked WAY more integrated than that, so presumably the technology to do it properly was available. On a side note, he also was quoted somewhere as saying they wouldn't release the original edits of the original trilogy on DVD since the special editions were how he always wanted them to be.

As far as I know, nobody has done the honda swap yet...I don't think the Viper V-10 guy is done with his yet either, even thought that thread is years old...But rotary has been done at least twice, sr20det, RB, KA, 2jz-gte, 7m-gte, all kinds of stuff (not to mention both ford and cheverolet v-8s). Oh, and one guy has a jaguar V-12, and one of the girls has a BMW V-12. There's all kinds of fun stuff happening at hybridz if you look hard enough. But yeah, opinions abound all over the internet, just have to find the ones that sound like yours and run with them!
  7. I'm pretty sure we're all talking about a particular individual, but the whole secret/alternate identity thing reminds me of this time that I went to get my license renewed, and while waiting in the holding tank for my name to get called I had nothing to do but actually read all the crap they put on the walls. One of them was a bulletin board full of pictures of known ID fraud perpetrators, and photocopies of their licenses. This one guy was so gangster, he had John Doe, John Smith, and my personal favorite: Bruce Wayne (the secret identity of Batman for those who don't know). I bet the person who took his application was all "Wow, Bruce Wayne, huh? You don't say...next!"
  8. Yeah, the Libres and Watanabes seem pretty popular (I blame the resurgence of Wats on Initial D, but those wheels are definitely hot just the same). The ones you've got there are interesting, just from looking at them I wouldn't have expected them to fit without a spacer. Or do you have a spacer?
  9. Thanks! If you search around at hybridz, you'll probably come across the camo themed BRE paint job I designed for a member there by the name of chewievette. A lot of people liked that one too.rattlecan army unite!

All time hottest S30? The Monza Mystery Wide Body, of course! (don't ask me about this car, I've been on a quest for the longest time to find out information, and so far, these three pictures stolen from a guy that stole them from a guy that didn't know where they came from are all there is)
  11. All wheels will measure an inch wider on the outside bead, the advertised width is from inside to inside. The way you figure out backspace is to add an inch to your advertised width, divide it in half, and at 0 offset, this will be your backspacing. If you have positive offset, convert it to inches and add it to your backspace number, if you have negative, convert it and subtract from you backspace. For the record, I've got 1.5" spacers on my car that I need for both my MOMOs and my Impuls to fit correctly.
  12. How do you have a 7" wide wheel that is both 0 offset, AND 0 backspace? that wheel should have 4" of backspace at 0 offset (3.5" + .5" for the bead). Nice wheels though! I've never seen your 280z factory alloy before, that's a very cool wheel in my opinion. Also, you may have one of the nicest S130s I've ever seen (the grey one, but the maroon one is nice too).

Hey everybody, I thought this might be fun. Post a picture of your wheels, either on your car or otherwise. I accidentally side-tracked a perfectly good thread by getting caught up in a hubcap and subsequent wheel discussion, and thought it might be interesting to see what everybody has. The only restriction is that these MUST be wheels you've actually got now, or a picture of wheels that you had at one time (if it was just wheels that we wanted, I'd be here all day talking about Impul Silhouettes and Advan Onis and whatnot). Be sure and give the name and specs if you know it, if not, that's cool too. I'll kick it off. Momo Quasar 15X7" +30 offset (home made lug nut covers, they were missing for at least two owners by the time I got them) Impul Hoshino Racing RS-III 17X7" front, 17X8" rear, both in +38 offset I've since painted these wheels, but don't have a picture of them on the car. they're the thumbnails at the bottom. Western 14X7" I don't know the model or offset of this wheel, I assume 0 offset, and I always called them the "turbine" wheel (with the qualification that it was the one with the tight spokes) [this is the same z as the other, just at an earlier point in it's life]
  14. Couldn't get my picture to display as a thumbnail earlier since I was at work, and for some reason can't just go back in and edit it to be right. Here it is again. If you've seen it before, just ignore it and it will go away.
  15. I wish MY z had come equipped with a crown shaped air freshener...the funk of 30 year old mildew-y cream vinyl is hard to shake...Next time I sit down with Mr K. over some tea I'll be sure and ask him if he can pull some strings for me on my next car. Retrospective necessity...I like that one!
  16. 26th-z refers to his car as "her majesty", I think because it has such a low vin? The guy in David's picture is the low mileage, no taste guy that he was describing who was being rude to Mr. K and making asinine modifications to what would otherwise have been a nice car(or at least that's what I gathered from the post). Both posts had a touch of the "sarcasm" you hear about every so often these days.
  17. yeah, that auction is just for the scoop.
  18. I went with the zzzap! stripes on my car when I was spraying it. I liked them better than the "rally" style stripes.
  19. Funny story along those lines: I used to work in a local theme park in the traffic department. You know the guys that point your car where to park as you enter in the morning? Well, the first thing people would do is kick their door all the way open and try to jump out, which would hold up the line of cars. What would kill me is that the person that JUST had to wait while the jerk in front of them did that would proceed to do the SAME THING once they parked instead of waiting for the next car to pull in before opening the door. Anyway, one time I saw a guy kick open his door, go to jump out, and guess what? He forgot to take off his seat belt and got yanked right back into the car. Priceless.
  20. Isn't it strange how that works? I was thinking about that the other day, how personalities still find a way to either mesh or grate on each other even without direct physical interaction...I feel more like a guest over here than at Hybridz personally (not because anyone's personality grates on me or anything over here-I think you all are very knowledgeable and pretty cool), maybe it's my low post count...I guess even birds of a digital feather will find a way to flock together.
  21. Oh yeah, my car wasn't even RUNNING yet, but I had those things off first order of business. Second was getting rid of the automatic tranny. Then came getting it started.
  22. Could somebody post a picture of the side mouldings in question? I'm not really clear on what we're talking about. 26th-z, maybe instead of spinning hub caps you could get those kind like the taxis were using that stay straight up and down all the time, that way you could put a graphic of a queen from each suit in a deck of playing cards on it. Just a thought.
  23. I've seen 280zx's that I'd be proud to own, none of which were 2+2, and all of which were turbo. So long as the stance and wheel/tire combo is right, they look mean as hell. But if you get that rear end dragging, dilapidated paint action going, then they can be exceptionally ugly. I know I had a bias against them for the longest time until I finally found one that looked nice. Now I can appreciate them a lot more. An acquired taste I guess.

I look at that car, and it doesn't inspire me as much as this one. Takes all kinds I guess. *edit* I forgot the link the video: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/890530d2-7e4f-49b4-9e1a-98be00cce994.htm Also, just to be clear, I respect the builders of the ZX posted above, and if anyone were to replicate that car I would be first in line to shake your hand. It just isn't where I want my build to go.
  25. I think the reason you aren't hearing anyone talk about their 280's is because of the company you're keeping. It seems most of the guys on this forum have 240z's. The 280 and 280zx guys seem to have a stronger presence over at Hybridz, which has more of a "make what you can out of what you got" build philosophy. I don't see much difference in anything that counts between a 240z and a 280z. Bumpers you can do something about. Corner lights you can do something about (if they bother you). You've got the displacement and beefy diff if you want to upgrade your existing powerplant, and you've got the stronger chassis if you want to upgrade your drivetrain (v-8/RB/whatever swap). I'm a two time 280z owner, and the only thing that bothers me about them are the bumpers. That was a day worth of work to fix. I guess it comes down to your mindset. I'm not particularly attatched to any given part on my car, just so long as it still retains that "Z-ness" from the outside.
