Alan, there are a few points I would like us to consider and then I would agree, “job done”. You stated, “posts detailing US laws are moot”. Maybe in the aspect of Sean’s well being but it is the US citizen that could be enticed to break US federal law and pay the severe penalties imposed upon conviction. If only one person reading this can be swayed from making a “ten year mistake”, I think these posts served us well. Without any sarcasm or ill wishes I would point out to Sean, that just because action hasn’t been taken against this activity in France, does not mean there are not laws in place to deal with it. All it would take is a change in the political climate of any particular jurisdiction for the hammer to come down. His ignorance of the laws will not matter and he has already amassed damning evidence for all to see. I certainly don’t want anything to come out of this other than the education and protection of our membership and that includes Sean.

Got something to add or are you just diggin the free entertainment? I find it interesting how few people are willing to voice an opinion on an issue such as this. Are you afraid of a wave of ridicule or rhetoric coming from across the Atlantic? Don't be; all I hear coming is obvious contempt for the laws of other countries, total disregard of the consequences of peddling these ready made fraud kits, for personal gain, all the while making a mockery of our intelligence, thinking anyone would see these as nothing more than souvenirs being offered for sale. Perhaps this thread did serve a purpose after all. Maybe some of us took the time to learn about the laws pertaining to the sale of this material or the legality of swapping VINs. Contrary to what some of you think, it is against US Federal law to take it upon yourself to swap VINs for any reason. Same goes in Canada, even if a title can be bought as a keepsake only. Hopefully, you remembered some of our members who had their Zs stolen and never recovered, possibly parted out or perhaps assuming a new identity with the help of a friendly souvenir peddler. Must be very gratifying to not only aid in the corruption of the legitimacy of Zs from afar, but also turn a tidy profit while tempting Z fans to perform a criminal act. Yep, audacity!

I do agree, I don't think it would even be possible to get the bar mounted upside down. Those pics show it very well.

You really don't have a good enough picture to determine if yours is right side up or not. The stock one in my pic is orientated so you would only need to raise it up and mount it. You can see on mine where it has a slight bow in it from constantly bottoming out on it. So there wasn't enough rotational clearance on this one either. Another 2" of link will only gain about 1/4" additional clearance. It's only a half hour job to flip it if need be. I'm sure you will have this worked out in short order and when you do, be sure to post a pic or two of the correct mounting here for future reference, Good Luck.

Long story why I've got one but here's a pic of the stock bar for fixitman's early '74 car, PN 55611-E8100 used one year only from 08/73 to 08/74. If you still have an interference problem I would compare your aftermarket bar with the one in this pic. Let me know if you need precise measurements. PS - While I was taking the picture a friend stopped by and I explained this bar was used only one year.....he then asked how did it get so rusty in one year!

There are a few pics on post #18 here compliments of twsutt that I found so you have a point of comparison. The car is a '75 so the bar will be the straight design. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25827&highlight=dampener
  7. geezer posted a post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
The stacked metal plates are referred to as a vibration dampener (correct spelling for search purposes). There are a few different designs, put together by the dealerships, on a customer complaint basis. There are some posts here covering them. Have you tried removing it to see if it's even needed?
  8. geezer posted a post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
I think that is the correct mounting for the stock bar for an early '74. Just turn the dampener around the right way.

I'll be in the other line, right behind you offering support.
  10. Ha! Sandblast that and all you'd have left is...sand!:classic:
  11. Celebrate your birthday with some great wine! I kid you not... New Wine for Seniors California vintners in the Napa Valley area, which primarily produce Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines, have developed a new hybrid grape that acts as an anti-diuretic. It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to the bathroom during the night. The new wine will be marketed as PINO MORE Happy Birthday Rick!ROFLROFL

That's not even a plate he is now selling. Just smoke and mirrors, clouding the real issue. That plate is from a different seller and has no relevence.

I know I said that was all I had to say on this matter, but I can't walk away leaving you misunderstanding the issue. This is what he was selling at a starting price of $350.00 US. Now it is properly documented
  14. geezer posted a post in a topic in Open Discussions
What the number is, is not important. Documented or not this "VIN package" can be sold to anyone who is not aware that it is documented, or even if they did know. Read his posts, he is still trying to sell it here even though we all know the status and he plans to walk away with complete impunity after the sale. It is fitting the word audacity was used in the thread title. You ask what the real problem is? Guess we know what side of this issue you stand on. This has all the makings for a poll question, but no matter what the majority think, it won't change the legallity of this practice or keep these cars free of rampant misrepresentation by less than honest sellers. I'm not afraid to speak my mind, but that's all I have to say on this matter.

It sounds like a regular Z puppy mill operation in parts of Europe, that you think should be accepted elsewhere. It's too bad you got burned when you bought "4944", but don't expect too many people to buy into the self justification retoric you are putting forth here. The only reason for listing this "VIN package" on Ebay was the hope that some unscrupulous individual would try to use it to circumnavigate the law for their own gain. No, I think a police action would be up to interpol, not us. This is just the way I feel about it.

Every new vehicle I buy goes directly to Ziebart. That stuff really does protect. I've never tried to remove it. I just trade the vehicles in for a new one. I would suggest giving the Ziebart dealer a call or drop in and ask them what they remove it with. I have brought cars back to them to have it removed from areas it should not be on and they got it off while I waited. I didn't think to ask how they do it or what they use.
  17. Thanks for clearing that up. Hope it is as described and you get it, seems like a great deal, lots of nice parts there.
  18. I don't understand whats transpiring here. The auction is still active without even one bid, but you are in negotiation for the parts. What gives EVILC? Are you just planning on using the Buy it Now if it checks out after looking at it tomorrow?
  19. I may be able to help increase your inventory of cam covers. I'll send you a PM.

  21. That is one unique cam cover! Black Beauty, I am familiar with and I find it to be one of the fastest cutting media I've used. I've been blasting for many decades but never had a cabinet and have only attacked rust on steel and experimented on aluminum. I've talked with someone who does the 3D images by using 3 pieces of glass with the corresponding images and he said he uses varying grits of Black Beauty to achieve different finish textures. He says he gets more sense of accomplishment doing creative blasting than any other home hobby. I'm going to look at your gallery now...Nice work! I figured out where I heard about the horn color, but I still don't know if that is year specific. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19895&highlight=radiator+support&page=2 Go to post #29 Mikewags, did you see the 1st post?

This very well could be the highest known VIN belonging to a 1970 registered Z. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1970-Datsun-240z-lightest-most-desirable-Z-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ140266000328QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140266000328&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14 Might sell quickly?
  23. Welcome Jumbo Jet. You can't go wrong following the advise from all above. The one thing I would reiterate is, take your time buying one, get the right one that suits your abilities so you can do most of the work. This will help you stay within your alotted budget and allow you to end up with a nice driver that will give you more grins per mile. Good Luck
  24. Looks great! My horns were redone in a satin black by the PO, and look good enough for me but I have heard the original color was a drab dark greenish color. Maybe that is a year specific thing? Someone will know about that. What kind of media did you find worked the best for blasting cast aluminum? I would be interested in finding what works the best on various parts.
  25. I don't know the part number but check with the Toyota dealer. They have a thin, spring steel spacer available. I also bought replacement pads and they only came with a packet of what is labeled "Disc Brake Noise Suppressor".
