That reminds me, if anyone is planning on getting some ceramic coating done I'll pass this along. You would have to send more than just intakes though to spend the required $200.00, to use the coupon.

If you want the added benefit of reducing heat transfer you might consider a metallic ceramic coating, which is available in a variety of colors and textures. Not much more costly than powdercoating either. Just like powdercoating, you will have to remove all studs, but temporarily install bolts to protect the threads from being coated. They prefer to do the cleaning and prep work.

You could go with an odd/even day plan, but that might not work. I'm remembering the pic with your son. He might have a suggestion or two! Turned out really nice! Great job! You will do all your own paint work from now on I bet.
  4. That looks great! If you didn't tell us, I would have thought it was a pic of a NOS unit. What paint did you use?

I tried to edit my last post but wasn't fast enough. I didn't mention the fused power supply to the relay. Check that also.

If the relay is clicking when you use the horn button, that means the control side of the relay is working. Don't pull the horn pad, but check the relay. If the relay is working check the wiring from the relay to the horns. The problem can't be anywhere other than the relay itself, the power wire leading to the horns, the horns or a bad ground. TomoHawk is right about both horns going bad at the same time. It's not likely.
  7. Ditto, but they look good painted as well and from what I hear, will do the job intended well, no matter what your color preference is.

Paul - This doesn't answer your question but is something I've thought about, and is loosely related. A few decades ago we had a local chrome plater who specialized in parts common to the Big Three. Bumpers, guards, grills, bezels, etc. and were plated on an exchange basis. They most often had what I needed and would give me a price dependent on what I gave them as a trade/core. They usually had extra and would often sell parts outright without a trade. I know there are many of us, who have extra "everything" as far as parts to be zinc coated. Most of it is not worth saving just in case it's needed, or selling, mostly because of the high cost of shipping. It could be a win-win enterprise if someone connected to a good plater started an outfit like that today. There probably have been some that have thought of it but just don't have the nessesary parts to start up. I for one would give up what I had in exchange for plating services. Just a thought, and sorry for the thread wrangling.
  9. Hi Mark - For the money, it looks to me that your car was well bought. As far as what is out of place in the pictures, someone better qualified than me could answer. Take care of the rust issues and correct the other few problems the best you can and have fun with it. It looks nice in the pics.

Nissan part 62300-N3000 There is another pic in my gallery. The mounting points line up with my 70.
  11. If you take one screw out, you will know how much thread you have and then be able to loosen off the second one, allowing the mirror base to swivel aside without the tapping plate falling inside the door. Then put the first screw back in and remove the mirror. That might not help a bit if you decide to go with different style mirror though.

Someone will probably clarify this for you, but I remember reading something about the slight difference in the early switches and what was done to make it fit. Also I came across an NOS early switch listed on Ebay only yesterday, but did not put it on my Watch List. If I see it again I'll put up a link.

Here's another you will have to piece together. Hope they help.

See if this is a different diagram than you have.
  15. While replacing the bushings I would look everything over good for any sign of something loose or vibrating against something. I once had a weak rubber hanger on my exhaust that allowed it to contact and rumble against the frame while traveling rough roads only. Drove me nuts and took some time before I discovered the culprit.
  16. Arne - I don't know what they originally came with, but mine have a very hard rubber also. I remember looking them over when I removed them. They are not back yet. I can't see that as being the cause of roadnoise unless they are loose or missing though.

The seller actually does a pretty good job of describing this car. He obviously knows his stuff. It was probably just a slip refering to Factory air and he goes on to say it was dealer installed. The data plate pictures are decieving and I for one am overly skeptical. Could be a nice project in the hands of someone willing to take it on and not afraid to loosen the purse strings. It sure seems like a lot of money to lay out before restoration even starts though.
  18. Thanks for the update. It's a shame you had to go through all that. Hopefully a quick search by someone in the future will spare them the same problem. Good luck

I just looked at two of my 1970 L24 engines. Although not early numbers as 2288, but what I noticed was the size of the stamped numbers. Mine are all the same height. Is this something unique to earlier cars? The 2's and 8's look to be different to me.

The firewall stamp is pictured in a duplicate thread.

Seems to be a discreptency in the data plate. What is it 357 or 359?

Right from the getgo I had second thoughts of bringing this up and wanted to close the thread. It has been interesting though reading the opinions of others. It was mentioned to me that we should be able to convey in writing the way we actually talk. I can agree with that, and I guess that is the way I talk. Then again, I always try to talk to others with the respect I would like to get in return. Some don't. And as Enrique pointed out, individual perception and the lack of visual cues can definitley cloud the written word. I got a boatload of PM's over the last few days and won't be replying to anything to do with this thread. Many want to know who sent the PM. Some assume it was someone active in the Spare Tire thread. They will remain just that, assumptions. The last thing I want to do is alienate a member who I will still respect and has much to offer us as a valued member, even if they had a bad day. We all have them. Oh yeah, WingZrO - Even if you went on a tangent, I get it. That's all I want to say about this matter.

Wow! Sure looks well protected from the elements. Didn't even get any dust on it. I had a blast driving through Minnesota. There's some great roads just begging for a car like yours. I especially liked the Grand Marais/Devil's Kettle area.

Lookin' great Jim! The grunt work is done and now it's all nice clean pieces going on. Everyday you get a little more of her assembled it will just plain make you feel good.

Very nice! I think the former owner would be proud and agree it's in good hands. Now-is that a '57 Plymouth peekin' out from behind the blue tarp?
