  1. Paul - This doesn't answer your question but is something I've thought about, and is loosely related. A few decades ago we had a local chrome plater who specialized in parts common to the Big Three. Bumpers, guards, grills, bezels, etc. and were plated on an exchange basis. They most often had what I needed and would give me a price dependent on what I gave them as a trade/core. They usually had extra and would often sell parts outright without a trade. I know there are many of us, who have extra "everything" as far as parts to be zinc coated. Most of it is not worth saving just in case it's needed, or selling, mostly because of the high cost of shipping. It could be a win-win enterprise if someone connected to a good plater started an outfit like that today. There probably have been some that have thought of it but just don't have the nessesary parts to start up. I for one would give up what I had in exchange for plating services. Just a thought, and sorry for the thread wrangling.
  2. Hi Mark - For the money, it looks to me that your car was well bought. As far as what is out of place in the pictures, someone better qualified than me could answer. Take care of the rust issues and correct the other few problems the best you can and have fun with it. It looks nice in the pics.
  3. Nissan part 62300-N3000 There is another pic in my gallery. The mounting points line up with my 70.
  4. If you take one screw out, you will know how much thread you have and then be able to loosen off the second one, allowing the mirror base to swivel aside without the tapping plate falling inside the door. Then put the first screw back in and remove the mirror. That might not help a bit if you decide to go with different style mirror though.
  5. Someone will probably clarify this for you, but I remember reading something about the slight difference in the early switches and what was done to make it fit. Also I came across an NOS early switch listed on Ebay only yesterday, but did not put it on my Watch List. If I see it again I'll put up a link.
  6. Here's another you will have to piece together. Hope they help.
  7. See if this is a different diagram than you have.
  8. While replacing the bushings I would look everything over good for any sign of something loose or vibrating against something. I once had a weak rubber hanger on my exhaust that allowed it to contact and rumble against the frame while traveling rough roads only. Drove me nuts and took some time before I discovered the culprit.
  9. Arne - I don't know what they originally came with, but mine have a very hard rubber also. I remember looking them over when I removed them. They are not back yet. I can't see that as being the cause of roadnoise unless they are loose or missing though.
  10. The seller actually does a pretty good job of describing this car. He obviously knows his stuff. It was probably just a slip refering to Factory air and he goes on to say it was dealer installed. The data plate pictures are decieving and I for one am overly skeptical. Could be a nice project in the hands of someone willing to take it on and not afraid to loosen the purse strings. It sure seems like a lot of money to lay out before restoration even starts though.
  11. Thanks for the update. It's a shame you had to go through all that. Hopefully a quick search by someone in the future will spare them the same problem. Good luck
  12. I just looked at two of my 1970 L24 engines. Although not early numbers as 2288, but what I noticed was the size of the stamped numbers. Mine are all the same height. Is this something unique to earlier cars? The 2's and 8's look to be different to me.
  13. The firewall stamp is pictured in a duplicate thread.
  14. Seems to be a discreptency in the data plate. What is it 357 or 359?
  15. Right from the getgo I had second thoughts of bringing this up and wanted to close the thread. It has been interesting though reading the opinions of others. It was mentioned to me that we should be able to convey in writing the way we actually talk. I can agree with that, and I guess that is the way I talk. Then again, I always try to talk to others with the respect I would like to get in return. Some don't. And as Enrique pointed out, individual perception and the lack of visual cues can definitley cloud the written word. I got a boatload of PM's over the last few days and won't be replying to anything to do with this thread. Many want to know who sent the PM. Some assume it was someone active in the Spare Tire thread. They will remain just that, assumptions. The last thing I want to do is alienate a member who I will still respect and has much to offer us as a valued member, even if they had a bad day. We all have them. Oh yeah, WingZrO - Even if you went on a tangent, I get it. That's all I want to say about this matter.
  16. Wow! Sure looks well protected from the elements. Didn't even get any dust on it. I had a blast driving through Minnesota. There's some great roads just begging for a car like yours. I especially liked the Grand Marais/Devil's Kettle area.
  17. Lookin' great Jim! The grunt work is done and now it's all nice clean pieces going on. Everyday you get a little more of her assembled it will just plain make you feel good.
  18. Very nice! I think the former owner would be proud and agree it's in good hands. Now-is that a '57 Plymouth peekin' out from behind the blue tarp?
  19. I'm no stranger to long distance driving. You have come up with a very good choice of what to bring. I would add: -a tire plug kit, not legal for a shop installation, but has saved me. Should be considered only as an emergency measure. -a good light source for doing roadside repairs at night I really liked Beandip's approach, of establishing a list of members where you could expect help along the way. You could expand that with printouts from MapBlast with repair facilities or whatever else marked out on them. Since you need to bring a fair amount of stuff with you, why not load it into the spare tire well and put a spare that will work on top? That's if a solution isn't found beforehand. Sounds like a great trip! PS-didnt see 12V air compressor listed
  20. I agree Stephen, the entire thread has gone far enough. In retrospect, I don't think I should have even started it. Mike said it best. ''If you have a problem with a thread, REPORT IT''. I should have just replied to the PM and stated my case. Initially I was PO'd to recieve it and read through the entire thread, to find that I did indeed touch a nerve. Reason why doesn't matter, but I do come from the home of the $8.00 haircut ($2.00 a corner). Thing is, the other member is probably someone I could hang with all day and never run out of things to talk about and not offend once. Myself, Im not easily offended and will certainly try to better consider how someone will take what I say in the future. My apology was accepted immediately and I am gratefull for that.
  21. Count me in Will. It's worth that much in reducing sourcing aggrevation alone.
  22. Jeff - I will be Stateside sometime before next weekend and can pick them up. I did go through a big fiasco a few weeks ago with US Customs and the matter still isn't settled, so I don't know what to expect. They seem to think I should pay import taxes on parts a second time. Just a paper problem but they may be on the lookout for a desperado like me.
  23. Jeff - I had to clear the calender for the next 2 or 3 days. Were expecting grandchild #4. I'm on standby now. I didn't know about the show and it sure doesn't matter now. Hey, I told you I had these parts stashed away quite a while ago and if you needed something you could look them over, no? I just need to clear some garage space. When I hit Moparfest I'll need the big trailer. Why don't you come with us to Toronto? I got room for you, just meet us here.
  24. Hi Zak - My son and I are bringing a truckload of parts that are in my way. Mostly large items that are difficult to ship. A lot of hoods, fenders, transmissions, rear diffs, etc. If there is anything else in particular you or someone else needs let me know and I'll see if I can help. I gave Greg the heads up.
  25. I think this is something that should be brought out in the open, to give me the opportunity to apologize to anyone I may have offended, even if that was not my intent. I was surprised to get this PM. I'm not so surprised now that I have given it some thought: Hey Ron, If you want to insult folks, with comments about being a girl, take it to another forum. We don't take kindly to this sort of childish behavior. The statement I made and was percieved as "childish behavior" was not directed at anyone, but used as a reference to myself, jokingly at that. I am certainly not under the impression that everyone is able or willing to change a tire. That's your choice. I'm just like everyone else that frequents this site, looking for answers to questions I have, helping someone if I can and taking an interest in the cars and projects of others. I have never typed out anything on this site with the intention of being hurtfull or insensitive. If anything has been taken that way I sincerly appologize.
