  1. Coated by Jet-Hot with their new Sterling Extreame which is a textured finish. It is done on the inside in a super smooth finish. Good for another 30 plus years.
  2. Coated on outside only with Sterling finish.
  3. Jerry - I agree 100% on your reasoning. The one you had the high bid on would make a very good starting point on a correct restoration. I was thinking only in terms of the market value of a daily driver in the condition as presented. The cars sold on Ebay, or anywhere else reach a much more diversified market than just someone interested in "correct". It's like comparing apples and oranges. What's right for you, doesn't nessesarily cut it for the next guy. I bought my Z with the intentions of doing a V8 swap. I already had the drivetrain and still do (all 580hp). It would have made a nice toy, but after getting the car home I didn't have the heart to do it. It just didn't seem right. Now it's the last thing I would do and probably would have been better off holding out for one like the one your interested in. I hope you and the seller can come together. It looks to be a great project for you and your son. Good Luck!
  4. zbane - It works and it's not stupid - You all have a Happy Greenie Day!
  5. The car originally in question sold for $14,100.00. Not to rub it in or anything like that, but I thought the seller would do well. I actually believed the auction was going to end early with a BUY it NOW. I think the difference here in placing a value on these cars is mostly on each individuals perception in their particular situation. Many of you are well connected, see many of these cars and have been very familiar with them for many years. You may live in an area where you occasionally see one driving down the street. You would have to get one heck of a good deal before you resorted to buying one off Ebay because you can find them locally at a very good price. I, myself have not seen a Z around here since the late 80's. I did see a very nice one on an excursion to Michigan. But I went there specifically to look at it. Point is, they are hard to come by for many of us. That particular car would sell here quickly for what the seller got. Originality is not such a big factor either. A clean (other than the engine compartment), good running, low mileage, unique vehicle such as this, that is dearly remembered but not seen anymore sells easily. I ask myself...what other car in this catagory can you buy for this amount of money? Prices are definitely rising and quickly. Just my thoughts.
  6. Got my boot delivered today and I am more than pleased with it. Great job Bryan! Thanks!
  7. That's not one of the items listed on the safety check form in Ontario that I remember. I haven't had one in hand for a few years now though. I think the responses you are getting from your question reflect the concerns of just about everyone when it comes to a safe fuel system. This is one area I would not compromise on. There is a reason you don't see this type of repair advertised and that is LIABILITY.
  8. Parts are accumilating
  9. You can see the rear bracket is bolted through the frame for lateral strength. Ready to move to other garage.
  10. Built on an old base used to move rolls of newsprint. 4" roller bearings on wheels.
  11. This is before the frame attachment was added for lateral strength.
  12. If I was to build another one of these I'd do it a bit different.
  13. Pics are up - Welcome to the site Fred. Nice looking car. You sure did clean it up! When you start detailing the engine it will give you the perfect opportunity to teach the young uns a few things. Have fun with it.
  14. I've got a "waist barrel" but my bung doesn't look like that.
  15. Got mine in the mail today, excellent replication, exceeded my expectations by far! THANKS!
  16. Why don't you remove your cowl screen and use a short length of rubber hose to blow compressed air from the outside while someone listens/feels from the inside where the hole is? You should be able to pinpoint it. Sloshing sealer where you don't need it won't help.
  17. Awesome!! Your car has one sweet profile! I love this side view. Finished just in time for the nice weather too!
  18. =Enigma= The best thing you could do at this point is buy a new gasket. Who knows how old and deformed the one that came with the header is. Then you will be able to port match the header to the head. First use a feeler gauge to find out how far out of flat it is by mounting it to the head without a gasket. After the flange is milled the apropriate amount, port match the head to the gasket and the header to the gasket as well. I don't know if you are using inserts or not. Have you bolted it to your head yet? If there is a twist that prevents it from being bolted on properly, that will have to be addressed first. It's a shame this wasn't done before it was coated. you will just have to be more careful with it. After all is said and done, you will still have gotten a great header for the money. Good Luck, and let us know how you make out with it.
  19. Good to hear you have your water problem solved. This new problem could be atributed to welding being done on the car without the negative battery lead disconnected. A mistake that is pretty common. Just a thought that came to me when reading your post.
  20. Based on the limited knowledge I have aquired on the actual cost to bring this car to this level of restoration, I think it would be a good buy at the Buy it Now price. I have spent much more than that just gathering up the pieces. For someone who's not in it just for the fun of the build and would rather buy one in an excellent driver condition, how can you go wrong? I think someone will hit the Buy it Now.
  21. I've been getting great results using Finesse-it 2 made by 3M (05982). It is a finishing compound used for machine wheeling paint, but I use it to bring back the luster on plastic by hand polishing. You can remove imperfections and scratches first by wet sanding, graduating up to 1500 grit before polishing.
  22. Anyone notice the NOS shift boot on Ebay sold for $153.50?
  23. Welcome Cameron - Best advise I could give you is to read through the past threads by using the SEARCH feature. Every problem that has come up with a Z has been discussed and usually resolved. That's whats great about this site. Helpful advise is given out by a multitude of knowledgeable people. Good Luck in your quest for a Z!
  24. That's great Randy! Your going to have fun now and probably have another 100 miles on her before you read this. It's been more than 30 years since I've been in a moving Z. Randy...Randy...where are you! Good to hear your mobile too SuperFunk. Where in Ontario are you?
