Gold code 918 70 240z automatic on ebay
Did you notice the VIN HLS30-12427? That would make it the highest VIN known registered as a 1970 would it not? (putting all theories of the DMV finangilings aside) edit - My mistake, it's registered as a '71. Worth checking out further if your in the market.

Brakes that actually work right!
E - To elaborate, he paused momentarily at 180 while looking strangely at me over the top of his glasses and then put it back into forward by continuing another 180.

Brakes that actually work right!
Those are great stories! Your not kidding about it happening to everyone. One time we went to check over a small 4hp trolling motor to put on a square back canoe. It was advertized as good running with reverse. The seller ran it in a barrel for us. All was well. After getting it home we ran it again but realized there was only neutral and a forward selection. My neighbor heard the motor running and came over to see what we were up to. After telling him the story and lack of reverse, he reached over and spun it 360 degrees and silently walked away. :stupid:

Hi my first z
Welcome Jason - It looks like you will be busy for a while to come. Lots of information can be found here to help you out. It's good to see some greenery from Ireland in your pics. Hey, I was just wondering if St. Patricks Day is as big a deal in Ireland as it is here? Good luck with your car.

$1750.00 for the project car and a ton of parts, and let me total up the rest....WOW!!...anyone seen a calculator go up in flames!!

Fairlady Z Header
No, this header was ordered from the Sports Options Catalog at the dealership when the Fairlady Z was new. I think these are the only pics of one on the net. The Clifford Research header was available from the dealer in the US and was more of an attempt to equalize tube length. Both are very heavy. =Enigma= has a nice Clifford.

Beautiful silver 240 on Ebay
Jerry - I agree 100% on your reasoning. The one you had the high bid on would make a very good starting point on a correct restoration. I was thinking only in terms of the market value of a daily driver in the condition as presented. The cars sold on Ebay, or anywhere else reach a much more diversified market than just someone interested in "correct". It's like comparing apples and oranges. What's right for you, doesn't nessesarily cut it for the next guy. I bought my Z with the intentions of doing a V8 swap. I already had the drivetrain and still do (all 580hp). It would have made a nice toy, but after getting the car home I didn't have the heart to do it. It just didn't seem right. Now it's the last thing I would do and probably would have been better off holding out for one like the one your interested in. I hope you and the seller can come together. It looks to be a great project for you and your son. Good Luck!

Beautiful silver 240 on Ebay
The car originally in question sold for $14,100.00. Not to rub it in or anything like that, but I thought the seller would do well. I actually believed the auction was going to end early with a BUY it NOW. I think the difference here in placing a value on these cars is mostly on each individuals perception in their particular situation. Many of you are well connected, see many of these cars and have been very familiar with them for many years. You may live in an area where you occasionally see one driving down the street. You would have to get one heck of a good deal before you resorted to buying one off Ebay because you can find them locally at a very good price. I, myself have not seen a Z around here since the late 80's. I did see a very nice one on an excursion to Michigan. But I went there specifically to look at it. Point is, they are hard to come by for many of us. That particular car would sell here quickly for what the seller got. Originality is not such a big factor either. A clean (other than the engine compartment), good running, low mileage, unique vehicle such as this, that is dearly remembered but not seen anymore sells easily. I ask myself...what other car in this catagory can you buy for this amount of money? Prices are definitely rising and quickly. Just my thoughts.

Fiberglass Fuel Tank Patches
That's not one of the items listed on the safety check form in Ontario that I remember. I haven't had one in hand for a few years now though. I think the responses you are getting from your question reflect the concerns of just about everyone when it comes to a safe fuel system. This is one area I would not compromise on. There is a reason you don't see this type of repair advertised and that is LIABILITY.

Water leakage problem
Why don't you remove your cowl screen and use a short length of rubber hose to blow compressed air from the outside while someone listens/feels from the inside where the hole is? You should be able to pinpoint it. Sloshing sealer where you don't need it won't help.
