  1. Hi Kats - The grommet looks to be the same on both and look to be the same as the one I had, but can't find. The boots seem to be taller than what I remember, and not quite as tight fitting to the grommet. Mine may not have been an original, but the vinyl was thin also. Are these available in Japan?
  2. Hi Joe, Welcome - You came to the right place for information. You live in a pretty good location to find a good rust free Z. Thats how you want to start out. Take your time and hold out for a good one. Every once in a while, they just jump up, right out of the blue.
  3. I've been comparing these colors lately. The only difference I can see is a slight difference in color that appears to be different only because of difference in texture. My theory is the hubcaps were not painted in the same facility when new. They seem to be slightly courser. I don't think you can go wrong going with the same for all, unless your shooting for a 300 pointer.
  4. I've seen a lot of different stretch limos, none made from a Z
  5. Montezuma - Your post actualy relates to troubledz's thread very well. troubledz's purchase and subsequent post was the reason for me registering as a member. I was a lurker for years. I registered in order to contact him and offer my assistance. He was contemplating driving it a long distance. I had the ability to supply parts or any tools needed quickly if needed, if he ran into any trouble along the way. Depending on what route he took, I was along the way. Even Carl Beck offered to look it over. Now thats something I would pay big money for. The car seems to be shaping up nicely, just takes time and dedication.
  6. Hi - I never used it but I thought they did offer, or link you to some kind of certification process. I have read many posts here where members have helped out by looking a car over, if they lived close by.
  7. Hi - Could you define "cheep"? It might bring the price down considerably if you had a substantial number of orders. Shipping in bulk to various central locations around the world would help also. A good idea would be to take advance orders and then get a price from the upholsterer for that many pieces. Then a deposit from interested partys. If you get enough completed orders with a sustantial deposit, you can then give the go ahead to the upholsterer. You can put me down for an advance order, if you decide to do it. I feel there is a marketable demand. If you don't do it somebody else will.
  8. I must have hundreds of specialty tools made for different purposes over the years. It's sometimes easier and quicker to make your own, and always cheaper. Every once in a while I find something I built and don't have a clue why.
  9. I was watching that but thought they went for too much. Might be easier to use a specialty set like that, but you can get by without.
  10. Gregg - The required paperwork for your car leaving the US is only to make sure there are no outstanding liens on it, or to make sure you didn't steal it. You are not far from the border, even if they require the presence of the car. You didn't steal it did ya?
  11. Gregg - After reading your question again I have a better answer. Your car is now in Canada but registered in the US. If you ship the car from Canada, it would be just as if you drove it across another border as their guest...but...In order to register it there, you still need a release from US Customs. Household items would be another matter since you are dealing with 2 other countries other than the US.
  12. Hi Gregg - If the US Customs did not do the usual search that they require 48 hours notice for export, the car is like you say, a guest. A quick call to any US Port of Entry office will be your best bet. It may only be a matter of shuffling paper. Their site is easy to find for information.
  13. I have used a combination of heat and dry ice to eliminate oil canning, but never on a finish panel. Not a problem in this case, but be real carefull using heat on a assembled car.
  14. I have bought from this seller. Answers questions quickly and honestly. I did not ask what else he had, but I think he would tell you in a heartbeat. Ships fast too.
  15. Should have been more specific. Mike got the last new one available from Nissan. Used originals can be found.
  16. Hi Brian - The only way to get one would be to find someone who is willing to part with one bought before now. I think it was sleep deprived Mike that got the last one. See...it pays to stay awake and alert.
  17. Will - The Fairlady grill is absolutely pristine. I removed it carefully from the box to photograph. Been in the box several decades. It would make for a great file photo to compare with the other next to impossible to find R version. I really have no other use for it. I did post a pic in my gallery but will do it again with a white background. The color is interesting in contrast to the D caps. I will photograph the caps as well but they are not pristine. Hope to go through some more parts soon. I never gave any of these parts any thought because I already have virtualy everthing needed for this project. How about head photos? I have E31's E30's... Now...that dash & console you mentioned, let me know if they get in your way. Ive got room .
  18. Will - Do you have a side by side comparison picture of the two different D hubcaps? If not, I have both sets. Rummaged through a lot of stuff tonight, found some forgotten treasure. When I bought my 240Z, the previous owner loaded up my truck and trailer with a lot of spare parts, some NOS, some for a fairladyZ he parted out long ago (even a NOS fairlady grill that hasn't been out of the box). I have not gotten around to looking it all over good yet.
  19. Sorry guys. I came up empty here. Probably stored in another garage I have across town. All the parts I plan to use are here.
  20. I believe I have a grommet stored away still attached to the boot. A new boot is one thing I have on my need list because of the poor condition of the original. And I never sell, give away, or toss anything until the restoration is done. I'll look for it.
  21. If there is no current source, there probably would a healthy demand for a reproduction. Other than finding the grommet, it looks like something easily made. I would buy one, even without the grommet.
  22. Very, very impressive. I think you should take that age discrepency and run with it. Dr. Shimizu can rest assured the KPGC10 is in the proper hands.
  23. I have not quit using Ebay, but am seriously considering it. For the reasons Carl just stated and others. Just yesterday I got the Message from Ebay.ca, anouncing the new pricing structure for sellers. You can bet the ranch, the new prices will always be designed to generate more profit. Even the bidding process forces you to be a sniper. I had the experience of another collector doing an advanced search to find out what I was bidding on. I would do all the research and use my time. He would outbid me every time, until I caught on. Then I started sniping, got better deals and didn't cross paths so much. Sorry for going way off topic.

    Timeline Chart

Hi all - This thread is intended to assist Will with his latest endevour. (See 240Z Parts Variation). This is a massive undertaking that will be a work in progress for a long time to come. It has been suggested, it might be better to stick just with the North American market for now because of the complexity. Complex indeed! I propose the development of a chart to aid all of us, with a common goal. That goal is, to provide a means to view all models & variations thereof irregardless of export destination or homemarket. It is possible to include the whole "family" along a common timeline. With a reference number system, data could be entered. It would make an excellent base for Will's project, in an attempt to identify and catalogue the use of various different parts and tie them down in a timeline. Any changes made during the production run, for whatever reason can be recorded. In essense, turn snapshots into a moving picture. I have a few chart designs in mind that would be comprehensive, store a lot of data and be easy to understand. It would be very useful for turning what seems to be a very complex production run into something self explanatory. It would also be very useful to develop Judging Standards, which are becoming more nessesary as time goes on. Best of all it would include ALL. This is the way it should be. Let's eliminate any pissing contests about simple terms (we will just get our shoes wet and I would need a change of socks). Anyhow, I think everyone should be able to submit data, which in turn could be deemed admissable or not by a consensus of qualified members. Any interest in pursuing this? Lets get some suggestions. I know I've got a lot more to say and several questions.
  25. Greetings jayhawk - No need to be ashamed. You had the fortitude to hang on to it all these years. We all do, what we can, when we can. I think it's great that you still have your first new car. You had good taste then, and still do. Your at the right place for inspiration and any advise needed. I learned more here about early Zs, than any other place on the web. Good Luck.
