How much are original windsheilds worth
Should have been more specific. Mike got the last new one available from Nissan. Used originals can be found.

How much are original windsheilds worth
Hi Brian - The only way to get one would be to find someone who is willing to part with one bought before now. I think it was sleep deprived Mike that got the last one. See...it pays to stay awake and alert.

240Z Parts Variations
Will - The Fairlady grill is absolutely pristine. I removed it carefully from the box to photograph. Been in the box several decades. It would make for a great file photo to compare with the other next to impossible to find R version. I really have no other use for it. I did post a pic in my gallery but will do it again with a white background. The color is interesting in contrast to the D caps. I will photograph the caps as well but they are not pristine. Hope to go through some more parts soon. I never gave any of these parts any thought because I already have virtualy everthing needed for this project. How about head photos? I have E31's E30's... Now...that dash & console you mentioned, let me know if they get in your way. Ive got room .

240Z Parts Variations
Will - Do you have a side by side comparison picture of the two different D hubcaps? If not, I have both sets. Rummaged through a lot of stuff tonight, found some forgotten treasure. When I bought my 240Z, the previous owner loaded up my truck and trailer with a lot of spare parts, some NOS, some for a fairladyZ he parted out long ago (even a NOS fairlady grill that hasn't been out of the box). I have not gotten around to looking it all over good yet.

Early Shift Boots
Sorry guys. I came up empty here. Probably stored in another garage I have across town. All the parts I plan to use are here.
-
Early Shift Boots
I believe I have a grommet stored away still attached to the boot. A new boot is one thing I have on my need list because of the poor condition of the original. And I never sell, give away, or toss anything until the restoration is done. I'll look for it.

Early Shift Boots
If there is no current source, there probably would a healthy demand for a reproduction. Other than finding the grommet, it looks like something easily made. I would buy one, even without the grommet.

Alan Thomas . . . is that you?
Very, very impressive. I think you should take that age discrepency and run with it. Dr. Shimizu can rest assured the KPGC10 is in the proper hands.

Ok.. fess up which one...
I have not quit using Ebay, but am seriously considering it. For the reasons Carl just stated and others. Just yesterday I got the Message from Ebay.ca, anouncing the new pricing structure for sellers. You can bet the ranch, the new prices will always be designed to generate more profit. Even the bidding process forces you to be a sniper. I had the experience of another collector doing an advanced search to find out what I was bidding on. I would do all the research and use my time. He would outbid me every time, until I caught on. Then I started sniping, got better deals and didn't cross paths so much. Sorry for going way off topic.

Timeline Chart
Hi all - This thread is intended to assist Will with his latest endevour. (See 240Z Parts Variation). This is a massive undertaking that will be a work in progress for a long time to come. It has been suggested, it might be better to stick just with the North American market for now because of the complexity. Complex indeed! I propose the development of a chart to aid all of us, with a common goal. That goal is, to provide a means to view all models & variations thereof irregardless of export destination or homemarket. It is possible to include the whole "family" along a common timeline. With a reference number system, data could be entered. It would make an excellent base for Will's project, in an attempt to identify and catalogue the use of various different parts and tie them down in a timeline. Any changes made during the production run, for whatever reason can be recorded. In essense, turn snapshots into a moving picture. I have a few chart designs in mind that would be comprehensive, store a lot of data and be easy to understand. It would be very useful for turning what seems to be a very complex production run into something self explanatory. It would also be very useful to develop Judging Standards, which are becoming more nessesary as time goes on. Best of all it would include ALL. This is the way it should be. Let's eliminate any pissing contests about simple terms (we will just get our shoes wet and I would need a change of socks). Anyhow, I think everyone should be able to submit data, which in turn could be deemed admissable or not by a consensus of qualified members. Any interest in pursuing this? Lets get some suggestions. I know I've got a lot more to say and several questions.

Newbie her, but an orginal owner of a 240Z
Greetings jayhawk - No need to be ashamed. You had the fortitude to hang on to it all these years. We all do, what we can, when we can. I think it's great that you still have your first new car. You had good taste then, and still do. Your at the right place for inspiration and any advise needed. I learned more here about early Zs, than any other place on the web. Good Luck.

headlights not going out
Welcome Mark - Good eye diagnosing that one. Intermitant problems can be the hardest to find. Kind of like fixing it, when it's not broke. I wish I had a nickle for every time I got something to work but never actually found what was wrong.

New To Z
Welcome Adam - In my part of Ontario, we have less snow than a lot of the US states. But when it does snow, they sure do pile on the salt. Even when the spring rains come, it takes quite a while to wash away the residue. That's why I had to go south to buy my Z. They are next to impossible to find here, in restorable condition because of this. That is, unless it was not winter driven. Does your car have the expansion tank for the fuel system? I have heard of some Canadian imports that did not.

Here we go again...
Hi Ian - It looks like you have a good friend watching out for you. David gave you a great deal by the looks of it. With your enthusiasm, I'm sure we will all be looking forward to seeing your progress. Good luck.

My 240Z build up
Looks like you are well underway. Good luck Drew.

'72 240Z quit...
Hi Brendan, I have a book by HPBooks. Titled WEBER CARBURATORS by PAT BRADEN. It is quite comprehensive with Theory of Operation & Design, Troubleshooting & Repair. It has Altitude Compensation Tables and Jetting charts, and a lot of other info. If you need any specific chart, I can scan it, but would recommend buying any good book on Webers, or find someone with the knowledge needed to tune them correctly even if your current problem lies elsewhere.

Gas dripping at rear after fill-up
I once got a great tip from a bike builder. He used a product from the Maytag people, used to remove rust from dishwashers and such. Labeled "for professional use only", and for good reason. The fumes can cause serious lung damage. That didn't deter me, I used it in a gas tank, with about 10% black diamond sand mixed in, as he instructed, sloshing around for a few days in my spare time. The results were astounding, shiny as a new silver dollar.

Matching Paint?
I forgot to say, he nailed it. Couldn't tell the difference. That was a midnight blue though.

Matching Paint?
The PPG guy I went to used what I think he called a spectrometer and had me bring him a well rubbed out sample of the color needed.

what is the TRUE definition of "Series 1"
Hi Walter - Just a few observations I would like to comment on. -Contrived, Yes, but I think, not for any malicious attempt to re-write history. Just a way to explain to an ordinary Joe like me with some clarity and make some sense of the timeline, which, in the big picture, all other variations would certainly be included. I grew up with the ability (as did all my buddies) to identify anything that came down the road. You can't readily do that in this case. -It doesn't force anything into a "model year mold" -I am a big fan of logic and do not believe there is a bit of truth about being designed solely for the US. If they possible could have provided the US with other models without undermining themselves they would have. That is if, they even had the ability at the time to produce the vast amount of different parts that would be needed to build a large volumne of additional models. Also, markets had to be explored with whatever the designers had developed. These are decisions made solely on feasibility and economics. -If anyone wants to use the term "SERIES", so what, or "FAMILY".

My 240z (die-cast) was kidnapped!
A friend of mine kept getting calls from his boss, early in the morning, on his day off, asking him to come in. He was not obligated to go in and responded on many occasions, No Don't Call Me Anymore. The calls continued. He came up with the perfect solution. He scoured the classified ads for "Items Wanted". He would call and say, yeah I got one and it's going cheap. From then on, when his boss had a day off people were knocking on his door at the crack of dawn and all day long.

what is the TRUE definition of "Series 1"
Will - I certainly didn't have any knowledge of a G-nose or any other variations at the time. Even then I would have been considered a hardcore car guy, but simply wasn't exposed to anything other than what was on the showroom floors and on the lots. I ogled over the Z and would have bought one but that would have been seriously frowned upon by my employer. I was just blown away with them. I am only now being educated by the wordwide perspective. Great input from everyone.
