  1. True for the early '74 but would the '74.5 fuel tank also fit? The tank changed and was increased from 60 liters to 65 liters. The filler hose, band, pipe and hose were all changed for the '74.5 model.
  2. Good eye Arne! There were at least 3 of us who looked through the Nov 15 1970 edition that missed that. Speaking for myself, I more or less gave it a quick scan and was looking for a picture. That narrows down the timeline somewhat for the introduction of what apparently is correctly called the "frost control valve lever". Just my overactive imagination at work here but I am left wondering if this was a case of using up the old stock before bringing in the new. No mention in the new model intro and it wasn't mentioned until a revision was issued. That would coincide with the blue colored replacement air cleaner assemblies being sold in the Parts Department as opposed to selling left over orange production pieces.
  3. Does anyone have a copy of SB Volume 137. This very well could be the missing link that may make it possible to attach a date or vehicle serial number to the incorporation of the summer/winter setting. I found this SB which was issued originally stapled to this booklet but it has since gone missing. It is my guess that HLS30-21001 would make for a logical starting point. This could be unofficially verified by our members who know the history of their cars.
  4. Easy for me. I have read just about every thread twice on the early cars and visit Kat's site often enough. Just try thinking of a few key words that possibly would be used for the search. Just about anything you ever wanted to know is at our fingertips...amazing to me! I remember the days making the trip to the library hoping to get information. That was hit or miss at best.
  5. Kats has a few pics on his site of an early hood if that helps. http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/insidehood.html Here is the thread on early hoods. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27591&highlight=%2769+build+hood
  6. Ah I see. Maybe the best thing to do, to hunt down a problem like this is get a wiring diagram and a multimeter to check the resistance of the circuit or find possible shorts to ground or bad/weak grounds.
  7. From the times shown on your last two posts, I don't see how you could have possibly found anything. You have been steered in the right direction. Taking the suggestions seriously is the only way you will find the problem. High resistance due to corroded wiring and connections is most always the cause of overheating and melted wiring.
  8. I'm sure there are others. I should have made it more clear that I was refering to wheels made by Shelby.
  9. The "Serpent" by Shelby is the only vaned wheel with the spokes extending to the center cap, as far as I know that were made to fit the Z. Can't help with the center caps.
  10. Reading this thread and looking over the pics, I can't help but wonder how well these cars would have resisted rusting if they had originally been E-coated. It is a common practice today and has even evolved into what is described as environmentally friendly. When our Zs were built this method of coating all surfaces inside & out, enclosed unseen surfaces included was in it's infancy. Today, epoxy primer/sealers can be applied by E-coating as well as the newer water based offerings, but it is still a process that remains prohibitively expensive for us hobbiests.
  11. The Harrington Group is obviously monitoring this site, gauging interest in their product. It seems to me thus far that they plan on marketing and shipping from the UK directly to the end user. Two questions come to mind. Could a group purchase be organized and if so at what cost? I would like to see a response posted on this thread or elsewhere on this site, from a representative of this company. Actual pics of the bumpers would be helpful too but I would prefer to have an evaluation from one of our trusted members.
  12. GST = Goods & Service Tax PST = Provincial Sales Tax Proposed new tax to replace both GST & PST is RST = Retail Sales Tax
  13. As of now, 5% GST + 8% PST in ON. As of July 1, 2010 the two taxes will be combined and called RST, which will be a consumption tax paid by the end user. It is sure to cost us more and should be called RSTC (Really Screw The Consumer):paranoid:. Above and beyond that we are subject to import duties of varying amounts depending on the goods involved and country of origin.
  14. I am not very well versed in the rulings of NAFTA, but it doesn't apply in this case anyways. The country of origin is not a signing member so import duties have to be paid, coming into the US or Canada. In Canada, the federally imposed GST also is unescapeable and PST depends on the province you reside in. There is a valid reason these bumpers are being shipped from Vietnam to the UK and then on to the end customers around the world. I don't know any of the details but I do know that the "country of origin" status can be changed if the product is considered unfinished when entering the UK, then finishing work is done in the UK before being forwarded to the recipient countries. It must be worthwhile in order to get a more favourable duty rate.
  15. Ha!Ha! That's one of the things we love about you Will. You are a problem solver extraordinaire through and through. Hmmn...basic black in the tradition of Snidely Wiplash...that's sure to go unnoticed by ol' Dudley. Seriously, that would work, but to me not worth the effort or risk. Now that your diabolical plot has made it on to the interweb, there must be an all points bulletin posted at all border crossings, to be on the lookout for Zs pointed North with black bumpers.
  16. These days they are, no matter what direction your going. The amount of information at their fingertips is astounding. That includes reviewable video. I know people who suffer the consequences every trip after being labeled in the system. With my family being split between American and Canadian citizenship and living on both sides of the border, I won't do anything to jeopardize my freedom of movement. It's just the way it is today. As far as replacing tires blown out, replacing bumpers, etc., there is nothing to stop you from doing so, but you must answer all questions and the Customs Officer will determine if a secondary inspection is warranted. One question is always, "did you buy or recieve anything"? The penalties for any infraction is very stiff...why chance it?
  17. Yikes!!! Easy there...I don't want to end up on some kind of watch list where I get detained and interogated every time I cross. That "makes life too tough". I'd prefer to pay the few dollars more and leave the border guards to their more important duties.
  18. Randy, you probably realize this but it hasn't been said so I thought I would mention the importance of locating the rubber correctly the first time. If you try to reposition it you will increase the risk of pulling fresh paint. Good luck!
  19. Thanks for the heads up Alan. I will be sure to get this issue. Octane magazine - issue 22 April 2005. This was the first copy of this magazine that I bought at the news stand. I bought it for the featured article of the Lamborghini Miura. (Yep, I was dreaming!) But it is also the copy which included an article titled..."Datsun 240Z How - and why - to buy Japan's greatest sports car". It is a well rounded publication that touches on a variety of fine automobiles of interest, past and present, as well as contributions from owners and world class drivers from across the wide spectrum of motor sport. When I buy a copy at the news stand, after reading, I normally pass them on to friends who I know will appreciate a good read. A subscription would be a good idea.
  20. Thanks for the update Will. I will have to wait until all the numbers are in to decide what to do. I would also have to pay the duty & taxes coming into Canada if I entered into a US based group buy.
  21. Patience is a virtue that will benefit you the most. In the Chicago area you will not find a relatively rust free, dependable driver for 4k. There will be a substantial amount of underlying rust repair to be done on this car as evidenced by your pics. I would suggest waiting and saving the money you would have spent purchasing and making roadworthy on this car, for a better opportunity to come along. Dozens come up for sale every week and there are deals to be found. There are lots of us guys hacking away at our rusted Zs saying....why didn't I wait for a better one to come along?
  22. Nope, don't know what it is. That is a lot of bumps with no one recognizing it. You could try listing it on Ebay on one of their "free listing days" with a rediculously high price and ask in your ad for info or anyone recognizing it. That would be a lot more exposure than you are getting here and you just might get the answer. If you do find out what it is, be sure to let us know.:classic:
  23. And low milage to boot! You did good Stephen. Congrats!!
  24. Thanks Will. I will definitely hold out for more information and see what develops.
