  1. After watching that I had the urge to find a long winding road meandering through the hills. Then I looked out the window and seen the snow coming down and snapped back into reality. Bummer.
  2. I noticed the Revell model kit Gregg posted is labeled with the French language as well as English. Could that be the reason for a different image?

    Mike's Z

Hi Mike - I just looked at your new photos and am very impressed with the progress. It's difficult to see a color difference on a computer screen. Even viewing it in person can be decieving because of the light hitting from a slightly different angle. Also, it is a common problem, when pieces are painted separately to come out slightly off color. White is the most difficult. Even if it is off a bit, the shear beauty of this build will make it virtualy invisable. Great work!!
  4. Funny you should mention toilet paper. If anyone buys one of these, look for the APT seal of approval. Same as on the toilet paper I buy.
  5. Sooo Will - Looks like you won't be needing that NOS dash?
  6. Jim - I think it would be senseless to second guess your evaluation. A documented well known survivor. It obviously is what it is. It is only the reasons for it that are not known.
  7. There were many things done and never documented during the rapid expansion and increasing production counts. I have seen the parallel events happen here during the same time period. It could very well be that both opinions expressed here are true. At that time running changes were commonplace. If the existing facility could not keep up, out buildings or other facilities were opened to keep pace. And not for only paint. Now that's just my best guess.
  8. If you guys want I will track this thread and get an accurate count of how many interested parties we have in the grommet style boot (with or without grommet and grommets alone) and anyone interested can chime in with their needs. We can bump this thread to the top or start a new one set up for this purpose.
  9. Well said Arne! Although I am a seeker of the truth, just like most here, and sometimes have questions about things pertaining to correctness, a lot of it doesn't really matter. We all have a natural curiosity, and a lot of questions will never be answered simply because it would only be a best guess.
  10. I can give you an hour long speech on the use of teflon tape, but I'll spare you that. The reason in this case for using a liquid form of sealant is mainly the...one size fits all... factor. Teflon tape has an inherant compressabilty range. It may require 1 wrap, 2 wraps or whatever to use, making it difficult to reach the desired torque and seal at the same time. Much of industry has outright banned the use of it because of the problems experienced. There are a meriad of problems that I could elaborate on. I'm not saying that it can't be used successfully, but am saying there is a better way.
  11. Will - You are still faster than me, anyways.
  12. Steve - An alternator upgrade would be less needed with the use of relays. You are using less wire, thus reducing the resistance, which translates into a safer more efficient system eliminating the heat, which in my opinion is downright dangerous. It's not an overly expensive upgrade and will give you pease of mind. I know this doesn't deal with your original question but I think most experts will tell you this.
  13. Also Steve, by using relays you are not running high amperage through your switch.
  14. 240ZX - Go back and read the link I provided. I did not recommend Antiseize. I would never use teflon tape on any of the high output engines I build. My machinist would have his way with me.
  15. I leave my boat covered with a breathable cover which is also covered with a large tarp suspended over it. When spring comes and the temperature hovers at the freezing point, constantly changing up and down daily, I get large amounts of condensation forming that comes out the drain. Your car if covered, will also collect condensation. I don't know if there is a way to prevent this unless the car is fully enclosed like E suggested.
  16. Not that it matters, but does anyone know why the original boot was superceded or when? It's usually done because of a change of supplier or because of a change to use the same part for other applications as well.
  17. You can get this at just about any automotive parts store. Works great and will lube the threads making it easier to reach full torque http://www.neverseezproducts.com/threadseal.htm
  18. Hi guys - I think we need to specify which one. I would like one if it can be patterned as the one in your second picture with the grommet. If nessesary I will deal with the actual grommet as a separate issue.
  19. Another point I have thought about, is concerning registration fees that are collected retroactively. There was another post today covering this in California. The bulk of these cars that are in California will be parted out rather than restored in many cases because of this. This will lead to a surplus of parts. Most of these parts will be well used, but as you know there are a lot of people sitting on a good stash of NOS and other GOOD condition parts in the hopes of restoring the hulk sitting in their yard one day. After California, every other state seems to follow suit eventually. Emission Laws are one good example. Before you realize what has happened, there will be very few complete cars left. I give it 10 years. Then you will see the true value of the collectable Z.
  20. Might not be over yet. Check out the buyers feedback. he's backed out of other auctions he's won.
  21. zcarmann - You were born in 1970..but it wasn't in the backseat...just kidding - I think you were kidding also, but a new member might be saying to his/her self, whaaat? Welcome xtce - If you like it..run with it.
  22. Maybe someone would be interested in this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110078461232&rd=1&rd=1
  23. Never been to a BJ auction and not likely to ever go. Whole different atmosphere I think, from what I see on TV. I do go to Auburn, and enjoy it. At least you have a chance to bring something home without going over the top and regretting it before you get home. A slightly worn, but complete and documented Pantera originally bought by Ricky Nelson could be had for less than $10,000. in the parking lot one year.
  24. From an investment standpoint that is good value. It's sure to appreciate with a minimum amount for maintainance. Even if it's conservatively driven, and not hidden away. I couldn't have one like that and not drive it. They don't show up in this condition too often and just might sell for that amount. I hope so.
