I leave my boat covered with a breathable cover which is also covered with a large tarp suspended over it. When spring comes and the temperature hovers at the freezing point, constantly changing up and down daily, I get large amounts of condensation forming that comes out the drain. Your car if covered, will also collect condensation. I don't know if there is a way to prevent this unless the car is fully enclosed like E suggested.

Not that it matters, but does anyone know why the original boot was superceded or when? It's usually done because of a change of supplier or because of a change to use the same part for other applications as well.
  3. You can get this at just about any automotive parts store. Works great and will lube the threads making it easier to reach full torque http://www.neverseezproducts.com/threadseal.htm

Hi guys - I think we need to specify which one. I would like one if it can be patterned as the one in your second picture with the grommet. If nessesary I will deal with the actual grommet as a separate issue.
  5. Notice the extremely rare 5 cylinder engine?

Another point I have thought about, is concerning registration fees that are collected retroactively. There was another post today covering this in California. The bulk of these cars that are in California will be parted out rather than restored in many cases because of this. This will lead to a surplus of parts. Most of these parts will be well used, but as you know there are a lot of people sitting on a good stash of NOS and other GOOD condition parts in the hopes of restoring the hulk sitting in their yard one day. After California, every other state seems to follow suit eventually. Emission Laws are one good example. Before you realize what has happened, there will be very few complete cars left. I give it 10 years. Then you will see the true value of the collectable Z.

Never been to a BJ auction and not likely to ever go. Whole different atmosphere I think, from what I see on TV. I do go to Auburn, and enjoy it. At least you have a chance to bring something home without going over the top and regretting it before you get home. A slightly worn, but complete and documented Pantera originally bought by Ricky Nelson could be had for less than $10,000. in the parking lot one year.

From an investment standpoint that is good value. It's sure to appreciate with a minimum amount for maintainance. Even if it's conservatively driven, and not hidden away. I couldn't have one like that and not drive it. They don't show up in this condition too often and just might sell for that amount. I hope so.

Hi Kats - The grommet looks to be the same on both and look to be the same as the one I had, but can't find. The boots seem to be taller than what I remember, and not quite as tight fitting to the grommet. Mine may not have been an original, but the vinyl was thin also. Are these available in Japan?
  13. Hi Joe, Welcome - You came to the right place for information. You live in a pretty good location to find a good rust free Z. Thats how you want to start out. Take your time and hold out for a good one. Every once in a while, they just jump up, right out of the blue.
  14. I've been comparing these colors lately. The only difference I can see is a slight difference in color that appears to be different only because of difference in texture. My theory is the hubcaps were not painted in the same facility when new. They seem to be slightly courser. I don't think you can go wrong going with the same for all, unless your shooting for a 300 pointer.
  15. I've seen a lot of different stretch limos, none made from a Z

Montezuma - Your post actualy relates to troubledz's thread very well. troubledz's purchase and subsequent post was the reason for me registering as a member. I was a lurker for years. I registered in order to contact him and offer my assistance. He was contemplating driving it a long distance. I had the ability to supply parts or any tools needed quickly if needed, if he ran into any trouble along the way. Depending on what route he took, I was along the way. Even Carl Beck offered to look it over. Now thats something I would pay big money for. The car seems to be shaping up nicely, just takes time and dedication.

Hi - I never used it but I thought they did offer, or link you to some kind of certification process. I have read many posts here where members have helped out by looking a car over, if they lived close by.

Hi - Could you define "cheep"? It might bring the price down considerably if you had a substantial number of orders. Shipping in bulk to various central locations around the world would help also. A good idea would be to take advance orders and then get a price from the upholsterer for that many pieces. Then a deposit from interested partys. If you get enough completed orders with a sustantial deposit, you can then give the go ahead to the upholsterer. You can put me down for an advance order, if you decide to do it. I feel there is a marketable demand. If you don't do it somebody else will.

I must have hundreds of specialty tools made for different purposes over the years. It's sometimes easier and quicker to make your own, and always cheaper. Every once in a while I find something I built and don't have a clue why.

I was watching that but thought they went for too much. Might be easier to use a specialty set like that, but you can get by without.
  21. Gregg - The required paperwork for your car leaving the US is only to make sure there are no outstanding liens on it, or to make sure you didn't steal it. You are not far from the border, even if they require the presence of the car. You didn't steal it did ya?
  22. Gregg - After reading your question again I have a better answer. Your car is now in Canada but registered in the US. If you ship the car from Canada, it would be just as if you drove it across another border as their guest...but...In order to register it there, you still need a release from US Customs. Household items would be another matter since you are dealing with 2 other countries other than the US.
  23. Hi Gregg - If the US Customs did not do the usual search that they require 48 hours notice for export, the car is like you say, a guest. A quick call to any US Port of Entry office will be your best bet. It may only be a matter of shuffling paper. Their site is easy to find for information.

I have used a combination of heat and dry ice to eliminate oil canning, but never on a finish panel. Not a problem in this case, but be real carefull using heat on a assembled car.

I have bought from this seller. Answers questions quickly and honestly. I did not ask what else he had, but I think he would tell you in a heartbeat. Ships fast too.
