Painting my Z
You're on the right track. Open up the hood and look between the right fender and the hood hinge and the sticker will be right on top there. This is where it is on my car atleaste. If it is not there, it's possible it got painted over or might just be really really faded from age and hardly visable any more, kind of like mine.

Painting my Z
Something that would be helpfull is, going to an automotive paint supply store and look through their books and manufactures to find a shade that you like. Once you find a shade in one of those books, you'll be able to get the name and the paint code of that shade so then you'll easily be able to have that color made.

First ride in a 240Z
Now that you own a 280z, how would you compare it to the 240z you used to own? I know it's been a long time since you used to have your 240z, but it I thought it would be kind of interesting to hear how you would compare your newer 280z to the older 240z that you once had in terms of reliablity and how they drove and such.

Need tips on Buying 1977 280z Please.
Sounds great! Would love to see some other pictures of the car too if you've got them. For the air "whooshing" sound, as Blake said I'd check the rubber boots for the afm as it's common for them to crack which could be the cause of an air leak. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/airleaks/index.html

Bird sounds
It sounds to me like you've got a hung up brake that's sticking from what you're describing. Take it down to a tire store and have them pop the wheel off and they will be able to tell you if that's the culprit of that.

Need anything?
Will a 240z door panel fit on a 280z? If so, what condition is the drivers side panel in? EDIT: nevermind, the upholstery and material I'm sure would be different.

Have the rear panel painted or leave it black?
You guys think it would look better in the factory grey than the black?

Have the rear panel painted or leave it black?
Good catch. Actually, the leak ended up being under the cowl under neath below where the wiper motor mounts after all. There we're several rust spots that we ended up filling under there and after several leak tests and driving it in the rain, no more leak. Thanks again for the help on that.

Have the rear panel painted or leave it black?
Yeah, I've also kind of thought the look of the painted rear panels give the car more of a modern look then were they're black.

280z #6 cylinder not firing
From what you're describing, it almost sounds like it is firing as you say it's getting fuel, good compression and spark. Is it running really rough and choppy and you think it's not firing on number 6?

Have the rear panel painted or leave it black?
This weekend on Sunday, we made an appointment to drop my car to get painted, finally! I'm so stoked and excited as I've been waiting for this for years now. It's going to be in the shop for about two to three weeks depending on how soon he can work on it. Any way, I thought it might be interesting to get your opinions on the whether or not you guys like the rear panels on these cars painted the color of the car or left black as they were when they left the factory? I used to lean torwards having it painted the color of the car, but now I think I'll probably just have it painted black again. I have a few more days to think about it, but that's what I'm leaning torwards as of now. What are your opinions, what do you prefer just out of curiousity? Couple examples of a painted panel and the stock color

Diesel 280z on Ebay
I thought this was kind of interesting, this guy swapped in a LD28 (diesel) into this 280z. I wonder how the performance compares to that of a stock l28 that the car originally had? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-Diesel-powered-280-Z_W0QQitemZ150133674135QQihZ005QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Nice '76 on Ebay
What are you opinions on the painted rear panels like the one in the link? I used to kind of like them painted like that and had plans to have mind painted like that, but about a month ago I kind of changed my mine and decided that I would just have it painted black again as kind of like that stock look.

Nice '76 on Ebay
This one being silver and all caught my eye! Gives me another idea of a shade of silver. Also, check out that funky speaker on the door panel, kind of ugly. On another note, we've got an appoinment set up next Sunday to drop mine off to get pained! Finally!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1976-Datsun-280z_W0QQitemZ260129805410QQihZ016QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Split sunroofs...???
Is it possible to have the sun roof taken out and "filled" by a good body man? I know that would be a whole lot of work and risky, but if it bugs you enough, maybe it's something to look into?

Vacuum Hose Schematic
This should help you out. I just re did all my vacuum lines under the hood of my Z and this schematic was real easy to follow. If you're in need of a few feet of the vacuum line, let me know as I have about 5-6 extra feet of it. Not enough to do all the lines under the hood, but a few extra feet if you need hose to connect the vacuum bottle up the solenoids for example.
