  1. Thanks for pictures! That really helps show where and how it's mounted. I think I'll probably just leave it off as I don't really see much of a reason to put it back on, unless you guys think it's pretty crucial to have on there.
  2. Funny MSA doesn't list it on their site, but they list it in their catalog, it's pretty pricy @ $72.15 for just the knob. Here's the part number they list for it if you need it: 40-2991. Any how, I know this guy pretty well and I'm more that he would have a used one. http://www.zspecialties.com/
  3. It sits right next to the fuel filter on the right of it. You should see a medal strap that's bolted on to the car and that's how the canister sits. If you don't have the medal strap, no wonder it would look confusing on where the canister goes! Here's a couple pictures of how it mounts, hope they help some. Notice the three hoses connected to it.
  4. 20w-50w Valvoline Synthetic is what I'm running.
  5. In my second picture, do you think that's how they made it, or do you think it got bent? Dumb question, but don't see how it could have been bent unless it was under some real stress as that thing ways a ton.

Nice! Haven't seen that one before.
  7. Is this what you guys are talking about? (I'll be embarrast if it's not). When we bought my car several years ago, it was lying on the passenger side floor, and ever since I've always thought it was just some piece of medal welded up that the previous owners had left in the car as it doesn't look professionally made. For some reason I've kept it (not knowing why), but here it is. Is this crucial to have on the car if this is what you guys are talking about? Anybody have a picture of one mounted on their car? My car is a 4 speed by the way too. What's up with this?!?
  8. nice, from what I see in the photo's, the original sticker looks new!
  9. Very very nice! Makes me want to do the same with mine!
  10. Deesz, I'd say your air dam is more of the newer modern looking style air dams, and yes, they do help with keeping the car down at high speeds and gets rid of that floating feel.

Thanks for info Tomo, I'll have to pop the horn pad off and have a look. I assume it screws off?

I noticed a few days ago that my horn decided to stop working. All it does now when I push the horn pad is go "click click click" a bunch of times. I checked the fuse for it assuming that was case, but it looked fine. I'm not a big horn user so it doesn't matter much to me, but I just noticed it when I was passing somebody I knew and when I tried to honk all it went was "click click click". Any how, I was just wondering if the horn itself is blown or what and wondered if there's some connection that may be causing it.

Same here. With totally black interior, it just gets unbarrable. Even on 70 degree days with with the windows down you get out of the car looking like you had just been in a sonna.
  14. 10,000 original mile car it sounds like. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1976-Datsun-280Z_W0QQitemZ260112656389QQihZ016QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  15. I've got an Xenon air dam on my car that I'm very pleased with. I too am a big fan of the BRE look, so if you're wanting it to look retro, I'd go with that. I don't know if this is a mith, but I was told that if you paint your air dam, you will end up just having to keep touching it up because of rock chips and such. I don't know if this is true or not, but I plan to just leave mine black because of this. If you want a picture of it, let me know.

Speaking of them taking away, hp, what would you guys estimate the stock factory a/c on these cars take away? The reason I ask is I've got mine all hooked up and plan on making an appointment soon to get it recharged and was a little curious on how much you thought it took away.
  17. NIce lookin' 280!

    Glad you solved the problem!

The quick and easy way to do it is by sound and checking the tach. rpms to get it in that 800 range. I'm know there's a more acurate way of doing it to get an exact rpm set, but if you're looking for the fast way to do it, that's pretty much how you do it.

In the video, your idle sounds to low. 400rpm as you say for the idle is way to low, especially running the a/c which will take away more horsepower, therefore lowering the idle even more which will make it stall. Your idle should be around 850rpm. Raise the idle up on the idle adjust. screw and let us know what happens.
  21. I was curious if any of you by chance had this book or heard about it and what you thought of it. I've been trying to tract down this book for some time now that was at an affortable price, most all the prices I have seen were crazy and I came across this on Amazon for about forty bucks (which is the cheapest that I have ever seen on this book), so I jumped on it. http://www.amazon.com/Datsun-280Z-Zx-1975-83-Clarke/dp/186982699X
  22. What a fun weekend racer that could be!:classic:
  23. Obviously, the battery isn't charged up enough to give it enough cranking amps to start it. When was the last time it was started it? If was real recent that it was running and charging fine, it sounds as if you have a short that's draining the battery possibly while it was sitting. If it's been sitting a while and hasn't been ran for say a month or so, it could just be that the battery is just low and needs to be charged.
  24. Nice! That's pretty cool!
  25. That's a 280z fan shroud, it's actually a two piece unit.
