Well, it still seems to leak, were thinking about maybe buying some solution to maybe slosh around under the cowl area to try and seal up any cracks in the old sealer down there that might be letting water in.

Thanks for the info! What I did to get the antenna up was just take some plyers and pull it up, I couldn't get it to go up with just my hands.

I don't know, I assume since Enrique said they were mounted on the radio, it must have been on the stock radio when it was pulled out and that's why it's gone like Enrique said. Other wise, if the switch was not mounted on the radio, I haven't any idea where else the switch would be because I have never noticed any other switches in the car that did anything like that. Until now, I just assumed mine was broken and these antennas where fully automatic and came up whenever you turned the radio on, so this is new to me. The oem antenna is still in place and hooked up, I just manually pulled it up so far so I could get some reseption. I actually have a spare oem antenna that I pulled off our 260z parts car that appears to be in great shape too. EDIT: After doing some research, I found one on Ebay, and there what do you know, there's the switch on the right side of the radio. Just love learning new stuff like that about my car and Z cars in general!

Thanks for the advice guys I really appreciate it, we will have to take a closer look at this weekend when we take the battery out. I do have a Haynes manual for it that does have some wiring diagrams (not sure how detailed they are), so I will have to take a close look at it and start tracing wires. I'm going to do a leak test tomarrow on it and I'll let you know what happens.:nervous:

[quoteAusten: Most of the earlier cars had the antenna switch located by the tuning knob. E] I see, so I guess my 280 would not have that switch because it has a modern radio installed. Thanks--

I was reading this (old) thread over, but am still confused on where the orginal switch would be mounted in the car for antenna?
  8. I'd say it's in great shape! I mean, it doesn't appear to have much rust from the photo's he included ie, under battery, quarter panels ext. Looks to be a great original low mileage car in my opinion from what the photos tell!

Just bought this set of tires off Ebay. I found a pretty good deal on them, so I jumped on it. I think I will store them in the back of our garage until the Federals on it right now where down a little more (2 or 3 thousand of left on them) and then put these new ones on it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D%2B190082192185%2B%26fvi%3D1&item=190082192185

Thanks, I'll try doing some searches. Everything was working fine before we brought it there. Hey worked on repairing some rust on the firewall which part of the wire loom went through, and my dad is thinking he may have fried a wire.
  11. When you guys mention "flood car", are you guys thinking it was in a flood and got all flooded out? This is kind of a stupid question, but just curious if this was correct..

Well we got it back today and all looks good! The hole under the battery has been fixed, the remaining rust on the rear quarter panel was fixed and also had a weak spot in the floor board welded up, so it is pretty much rust free. I have yet to find out if it still leaks. The body man said he would paint the car for $2000, we will probably have him do that, but I'm not exactly sure when yet, but in the next few months hopefully. When he was working on it, something happened to the wiring because when you turn it on acc, non of the accessories come on ie; radio, dome lite nothing. When the car is running, then everything will work, but when you turn the heater on when the radio is on for example, the dash lights flash off and on and the radio blips on and off. We haven't figured out what happened, hopefully nothing serious. We've checked all of the fuses and they all look good, I guess we'll have to pull the battery out again and have another look.
  13. Samething that I thought. I of coarse had to send him a message asking him a few question about it like what kind of paint he used on it.

Well she's at the shop, so we should be gettin' her back in a few days. We talked to the guy about painting, so he'll be giving us an estimate on a paint job so hopefully that may be getting done soon down the road!

Alright, well we're dropping her off on Saturday morning! The bodyman said it will be about a full days work, so we're going to give him the weekend to work on it and hopefully pick it up Monday night. We made it clear with him that we need it back soon. He is going to fix the remaining rust in the rear quarter panel, the big whole under the batter and some other smaller rust wholes on the firewall. The water leak has yet to be found, but he is going to look into it. After this, it should be pretty much a rust free car!
  17. Those are original Datsun hubcaps!?! They can't be! Not to start a war, but those look like they'd be on my grandma's Oldsmobile if it didn't have the Datsun logo in the middle, definitley not sports car style.... Edit: Compare this Oldsmobile hubcap to the one above
  18. Personally, I like the stripes!

Thanks for your info. The carpet and sound detenator material is all stripped out on the passenger side. We don't think it is the windshield gasket that is problem because it seems to be comming in from under the cowl and somewhere into a rust whole in the firewall, but anything is possible. We'll see what this guy says today about. Thanks again for your help and your pictures.

Update; my dad set up an appointment tomarrow to take it up to a body man which we've had work done from him before and he's going to give us an estimate. I tell ya, we gotta get this water leakage problem fixed soon, I was telling my dad last night I can't even drive it in the rain because it just creates a huge puddle on the passenger floor.
  21. Seems like a read idiot...
  22. Beautiful car! She looks like new!
  23. Glad you found/solved your problem, and that is good to know for future reference!
