Engine sputter after turning off ignition
Thanks FreeZ for all the helpful hints. I will try all those suggestions, before I do anything more invasive. I am suppose to keep notes on all that happens, since my mechanic is still fine tuning the car for me, and yes, I will take the car back to him with all these notes. Now as far as the route of Sea Foam and gas additives that will help; Are there other good alternatives to Sea Foam? First of all, I went to my local Kragens last night and they didn't have it. They had things like Slick50. Is that a good alternative? Someone at work suggested kreen from kanolabs. Who carries these products? Anyone heard of this stuff? I'm also intrigued by another suggestion of running a bit of water in the carb when the engine is running? I think this is something I picked up from an archived post. The best suggestion from a coworker is to run the hell out of the engine on a open road in the morning. Yeh!! Anyways, I'm learning a lot from all this great information. Thanks all.

Engine sputter after turning off ignition
Wow. SeaFoam?! never heard of the stuff. As for all your recommendations, especially the one from DeesZ, I'm gonna assume that since I just got the car back from my Z guy, that timing is probably not the issue. The engine is running great. It purrs down the road when I'm driving it. Plus, I'm not a mechanic, and not really qualified to open up anything in the engine, without messing something up. So for me, it seems like SeaFoam is the best first line of attack. From all the stuff I just dug up it looks pretty straight forward, and not really all that technical. The only thing that I might have to do is a simple oil change afterwards to get all the gunk out. Anyways, thanks to all who responded and gave me tons of great solutions.

Engine sputter after turning off ignition
Well, now my friend who use to have a 260 told me that regular gas for 240s are fine. So, it may not be the gas. Carbon buildup? hot spot on the valve? My mechanic told me that this is common on these old Z's. So I guess I'll just have to deal with it and see if it goes away...

Engine sputter after turning off ignition
I was always under the assumption that since my 240 is carbureted, that I can put in regular 89 octane(which I did this morning!). So, I guess I was wrong. What is the recommended octane for the 240s?

Engine sputter after turning off ignition
Hey guys, just wondering if anyone had this experience. After I turn the keys to the off position, I'd expect the engine to stop. But I am experiencing something that I don't expect. My engine will sputter on for a while. Sometimes just a few seconds, sometimes it'll sputter, crank, then final come to a stop. I have a 240Z with new pertronix electronic ignition. Any ideas?

Good 240Z engine rebuild shop in Bay Area?
I live in Oakland, and I got recommened to Rob Fuller's shop in San Jose by a co worker. My 72 240Z is still with him, but he's almost done with it. He has a very clean professional shop and is throughly knowledgeable. Many people recommended him as well. Check out the website: http://www.zcargarage.com/

ZCarGarage Photos
Sorry. Just getting back to this post. Been away for a while. Yes, I met Rob a couple of times, and he definitely seems to know what he's doing. The quality of the cars that he builds and fixes, and the recommendations that I've heard speak for themselves. To answer the inquiry by JimmyZ, Yes, that green engine is out of a Skyline, and fitted into a 240. Beautiful car. Sounded amazing!

ZCarGarage Photos
Hi. I just wanted to post some photos from my recent trip to the ZCarGarage here in the Bay Area. I'm sure many of you are familiar with this shop, the owner Rob, and what kind of work they do. I was introduced to the shop by a local who knows the shop very well, and he highly recommended them to me. So, I have my 72 240Z at the shop right now, and I will have some work done by him. But I wanted to post some photos that I took while I was over there. Here you go, and enjoy!

I now have up four photos of the car. Just basic "As it is now" statement. I will get some more interior shots later. Goto my photo gallery to see them. You could also read how I came about getting this car blurb attached to the front view of the car.

Hi. I'm Glenn. I bought a white 1972 240Z a few months ago, and I just joined as a member. I'm so excited to see that there are so many owners of the Zcars. I'll be posting my photos as I go. Currently, I haven't done any work to my car yet. Still haven't really decided what I'm gonna do. Probably will keep it close to stock as possible, for now.

My 'new' 72 240Z
Close up on the hood emblem. Notice the paint crackle. While that looks nice on a nice aged furniture, it doesn't do so well on a car.

My 'new' 72 240Z
Front view. Nice clean stock look that I like. No work done to it yet, except for new headlights and battery. Here's a quick history on how I came to this car. Bought this car a few months ago, almost on a whim. I use to have a Black 2003 G35 coupe, but had to get rid of it to help with family finances, etc. Then I looked around a bit for something that I can replace the G35 with, and I came across people selling these classic Z's, and it brought back all this nostalgia about growing up in the 70's and 80's. So after a short search on ebay and craigslist, I came across this 72. I bought it right away, then right after, I had seconds thoughts. Then, after driving it for a while, I fell in love with the car. I was almost thinking that I was gonna get rid of it, but after realizing how beautifully the car drives, and how everything feels and fits me, I loved it and decided to keep it. I'm currently evaluating what it needs to get it to top running shape, get it all done, and hopefully, I can keep it as a daily driver. So here's some "as is" photos. I'll update as I go, but I don't think it will change too much since I'm planning on keeping it as stock as possible(we'll see).
