for those who trailer their Z
in preparation for my upcoming move from CA to Omaha, Nebraska, I went out and purchased a car trailer this weekend. (3 vehicles, only 2 drivers, and the Z ISN'T going to stay in California when we leave) anyway, to those who trailer their Z's, my question to you - what kind of tie downs do you use ? I remember renting a UHaul trailer once to pull a vehicle, and it had a set of tie downs that wrapped around the front wheels (kinda like snow chains do) can you find these anywhere ? any suggestions would be welcomed !

anyone here in the Omaha area ??
my wife and I spent last week in the Omaha, Nebraska area. We're going to be moving there in August, so we went up to find a house. anyway, while I was there, I didn't see a SINGLE 1st gen Z. I saw a couple 350s, and a handful of 300s. we did see an S130 that was in pretty good shape. other than that, NOTHING !! am I going to have the only old Z in town ??????????

Fix It Up, Or Find Another?
you see, that's what I love about this site - someone is ALWAYS willing to extend a helping hand!

Did 280Z's come with factory sunroofs? For some reason.. I have one
sad, but true, some PO butchered the roof and put the sunroof in. it's not listed as an option in the '78 brochure

to all that own factory service manuals on CD
I kinda like the idea. How many of you 240 guys have a 5 speed? an L28 ? fuel injection ? What about those with a turbo donated from an 81-83? anyone else with pieces of a ZX in your car ? Instead of buying the FSM to cover the 5 speed tranny, AND the turbo, AND whatever year model you happen to own, wouldn't it be nice to be able to pick and choose the stuff that was applicable to your car ? One of the main purposes of this board is for us to help each other keep our Zs on the road, right? I have the 78 FSM on CD (purchased from Courtesy Nissan). Each chapter is its own pdf file. the largest file is just over 5 mb. I also have the microfiche CD, but I would encourage you to spend the money on that one instead of downloading it. It helps the board out ! just my .02

Removing Louvers
a flat head screwdriver works just as well. the louvers on my 78 came without a key (same type as what's on your car). I just use a screwdriver whenever I need to lift them.

WOW!!!! Flashback!!
Vic, is the owner a CZCC board member? if he is, have him post pics to his gallery! I love this car!!! I also noticed a Dept of Defense sticker in his window at the MSA show...is this guy Navy? I never got a chance to talk to him at the show.

WOW!!!! Flashback!!
there was one at the MSA show this year. won best stock 280, if I remember right. check out MSAs site for more pics!

Removing Door Panels
I like to use the panel puller tool. I've had better luck with the tool than with knives or screwdrivers.

Exaust System & Cat Converter
are you sure about this ? I know that a 25 year old car gets you out of smog testing in TX, but I didn't think they let anyone get out of the annual test (horns, lights, etc)

another butt-ugly mod on eBay
just when we thought we had seen the last butchered Z, another one pops up on eBay will it ever end ?

Exaust System & Cat Converter
my 78 has a cat on it (damn CA model) I have been toying with the idea of taking it off when I replace my exhaust system this summer. my Z is registered in TX, so I fall under the TX rolling 25 year smog exemption. even nicer, because I am military, and the car isn't physically located or operated in Texas, I don't even have to get it smogged at all for license plate renewal !

240Z in movies
ever watch LAPD on TV ? it seems that every episode I watch, there's always a Z (usually a ZX, and usually on blocks, or in some other state of sad repair) in the neighborhoods where gang bangers and pot heads are always getting shot or arrested. next time the show is on, just watch. I almost GUARANTEE you will see a Z of some sort. I also saw an episode of Knight Rider recently where the opening sequence was a guy in an S30 (either 240 or 280, couldn't tell) getting run off a cliff.

My baby was stolen!!!
GREAT NEWS ! 1/2 mile from your house...lucky you. I have a friend whose car was once stolen in Cheyenne, WY, and was recovered in New Mexico a week later! THAT was a joyride! btw, nice Z !

arm rest colors
I recently (last weekend) came across a Z that had white armrests in it. they appear to me to have been made (as opposed to being dyed) that way. if you're still interested, I can see about picking them up for you. btw, these are in a 77/78. don't know if they'll match up on a 260.

WreckedExotics.Com
I stumbled across this site accidentally. has anyone else seen it? www.wreckedexotics.com there is a really nasty couple of 300Z shots. I have been thinking about adding a few of the shots that I have. ENJOY!

Stereo Install....
yes. every now and again Best Buy will run a "free installation" special if you purchase a stereo > $100. the only thing you may have to pay for would be any equipment (new speaker wire, a mounting harness), but the labor is free. a word to the wise though...sometimes you are getting what you pay for. I bought my CD player at a Best Buy, and got the free installation deal.. had to take it back 2 times before they finally got it right. the first time, they had wired the unit in such a way that it kept shorting out. I had to take it back AGAIN because instead of wiring a left rear and a right rear speaker, they wired 2 left speakers (left front and left rear). i would suggest finding a friend who knows how to do it, bring over your car and a 6 pack, and go to town.

Stereo Install....
thanx for the feedback on the car! I actually did drill into the console, and used black trim screws to secure the antenna piece. I had originally wanted to place the antenna switch near the defogger/hazards switches in one of the "dummy plates" but it wouldn't work. good luck!

Stereo Install....
interesting approach...

Stereo Install....
I put a Pioneer Supertuner in my 78. had to relocate the power antenna switch, as the faceplate took up too much room to leave it in the original position the CD player is nothing fancy. enough to have music to travel to. acoustics in the old Zs were never it's strong selling point ,and I refuse to cut holes in my doors for 2 more speakers. check it out here: CD player install

part of the prob with eBay
is people like this: speedo cable $13 just for shipping ?!?!? correct me if i'm wrong, but the cable isn't THAT HEAVY, is it ?
-
Stereo Install....
for a 78, try either the cig lighter or map light. mine is powered off the map light (for clock/memory, that is)

EBay 260Z
i remember seeing this car on ebay before, as well. i also seem to recall some sort of issues with either the selling dealer, or the condition of the interior. take a look at the seller's feedback. 2 cars "conveniently" sold locally before the auction ended... if the old thread is not in one of our forums, maybe it's at zcar.com.

How many Z forums do you participate in?
I like to check out zcar.com and zdriver.com haven't really played around too much on zdriver recently. I have also "joined" the IZCC, but haven't noticed too much updating to the site. I've actually had alot of success with the Parts & Accessories forum over at zcar. my most recent score was an original 4 speed pattern shift knob in GREAT condition. I also like to look through the 350 forum at zcar for a good laugh as the new Z owners complain that their nav systems can't automatically find the closest Starbucks! I really only started making this my "main" Z page when the focus shifted from 240s to all 1st gens. Since I own a 280, I didn't have much to contribute to a 240 board. I like that this site is dedicated to the 1st gen owners/cars. I am a 1st gen lover at heart, even though my introduction into the Z world was in a 79 ZX.

Who are the worst drivers?
those of us who live (or have lived, in my case) in places where it snows can give a hands-down vote to TRUCKERS  a**holes go flying by you on snow covered roads/freeways and kick up a white-out cloud that blinds you. they think they're invincible... I'll be moving to Nebraska soon, and am not looking forward to sharing the icy roads with these guys again. my .02
