I am looking for a throttle rod for my S30 (part of the throttle linkage, I'm looking for the bit that goes through the firewall from the throttle pedal). The one on my 71 broke and seems to be beyond repair. Does anyone have one lying around that they could part with? In this pic, it's the piece with the boot on it.

I'm using Hawk HP's (with PowerSlot rotors and stock calipers) and like them.

You can find them at MSA, but the ones that I have seen are too long (stick up way too far) and don't look right.

  5. I'll be adding a spook, but this is how my Z looks right now.....
  6. I agree. Those would make great desktop wallpapers, if a high-res version was available somewhere.

Hi Paul, Those brake drums look new. Or have they just been painted? Anyway, it could be that the drums are rubbing on the backing plates, or on the shoes themselves. I had that problem when I first got my car back on the road. And that problem definitely manifested itself in the exact way that you're describing. Take a hard left, you'd only get the noise from the left wheel. Then it was both wheels, with a lighter scraping noise, and then you'd take a hard right and you'd only get the noise from the right wheel. Keep us posted. Brian

The labels are on mine, too. Install 'em and enjoy.
  9. Okay, I just have to say....that's the hardest I've laughed all day. I actually think this car could be interesting if it were cleaned up and in decent shape, but this seems to be a very poor example.

I emailed the seller, last week, right after the auction was first posted -- and told him that I thought that the car was a 260Z. I asked him if the VIN that's stamped on the firewall matched the door plate, and was told that the seller was 'not an expert' and that he apparently wasn't interested in identifying it further. My guess....it's an early 260Z with VIN plates from a 240Z.
  11. Carl gives good advice, as always....but to be fair, Rob said that he wants to preserve it as a family heirloom. In which case, you probably should get a pressure washer pointed at the car and clean it up. Pull the interior, evaluate any rust areas, and then get started on getting the car running. You'll want to replace all fluids (there are plenty of posts on this site that will walk you through draining the tank and getting the car started again). At that point, you can decide what you want to do with the car and how much expense is going to be involved. Do you want to get the car pretty, or do you just want to drive it? Those are the sort of questions you'll be asking yourself. Assuming that you want to do an involved refresh, you will probably want to pull the engine and strip the car down for a repaint. New interior, new seals and bushings, upgrade the brakes and safety systems, rebuild the motor...do those things, and that car will last you a long, long time. It will be expensive, but it may be worth it to you. Keep track of what you're spending, do as much as you can yourself, and don't lose patience.

Hi, Gene. Welcome to the club.

I'd be interested in hearing the story on the car, as well. I freely admit that I'm a sucker for the blue interior......
  15. I can remember playing this game in the arcades. But more interestingly, if you google the term 'ROM emulator' and specifically look for a MAME emulator, you can find the ROM for this game and play it in emulation. It's out there and freely available.

Four letter nickname for Richard, begins with 'd' - ____ Four letter word, your cranium is part of your - ____ :bulb:
  17. That must be a 'before' shot, then....clearly there is no floor in the photo (you can see the concrete, complete with shadows), but a floor is visible in some of the other photographs. Still, I bet you're right and they just tacked in a piece of sheet metal.
  18. Is it my imagination, or is there no driver's side floorpan in the car?

Hello, and welcome to the club. That's a beautiful car you have there. Like many of the other members, I have my car insured with Hagerty. There is a $22K agreed value policy in place on my car, and the coverage costs me about $160 a year or so. www.hagerty.com I have never filed a claim with them, of course, but I have heard of others who had good experiences. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

I don't think so. You perceived it to be a dig against the French. I perceived it to be Stephen making a 'raising the white flag, surrendering, whatever, don't want to hear any more, this thread has jumped the shark, etc etc etc' type of statement. Besides, everyone knows that the Italians make far worse soldiers than do the French.... That's a joke. A joke! Don't flame me.

One of us got it wrong, because that's not what I perceived his post to be saying at all..... As for the topic at hand, I said, and still believe, that this kit could be used for fraudulent purposes. And I don't think it is wise to sell such a kit to a complete stranger, or to present the kit as it was on eBay. I do credit Sean for coming in and clarifying his intentions, however.

I took Lonny's statement to mean that the car was wrecked in 1976.

This is what I was thinking, too. Shazam, a Series I. As others have stated, the item that is being sold on eBay is not dangerous, but what a new owner could do with that item is. Does anyone have a list somewhere of 'known crushed' cars? Might help someone later on who is researching a potential purchase. They would definitely be able to determine that something was funny about that VIN if they saw a document that claimed that the car was crushed and the VIN plates were saved. Anyway, it's just a thought.
  24. Different strokes for different folks. You also like the side marker lights, and I couldn't wait to get them off of my car. My goal with my car was to clean up the lines a little bit. I don't want major modifications or anything. I've got a Datsun emblem on the hood, a 'Z' vent emblem on each side, and a BRE spoiler front and rear. It's a Datsun. It's a Z. If someone wants more information, they can try to catch me and I'll happily fill them in. Personally I think that emblems on the spoiler would break up the lines of the car, aesthetically, and I don't want to do that. But to each his own!
