Make sure your brakes are in good operating condition, too......you'll be smelling hot brake pads all the day down.

L24 (Modest Upgrades)
I thought that conventional thinking was that a header doesn't add power on a 240Z. Weren't headers discussed and then rejected by the BRE team? Seems like I read that in the 'How to Modify' book.....

Finally got my heater valve!!
I've done that same maneuver, so that photo made me laugh. My wife saw me in the garage, all wedged up under the dash, and she said 'I guess fat guys can't own Datsuns, huh?'........

Barn fresh low mileage 240 on Ebay
I agree, and I suspect that the reserve is set higher than it ought to be. Just a guess, but I imagine there's more rusty/crusty areas than what we're being shown, and in any event, getting the varnish out of the tank and lines and de-gunking the carbs is not going to be an insignificant project. The body looks good, at least, but I'm always suspicious when there are only a few photos and some inconsistencies in the description (the car was prepared for storage, but the tank is full of gas; it's rust-free but look out for the rust, etc). And who parks a car with 69K miles and nothing wrong with it? I'd like to hear some more about that part of the story.....

Do You Text while Driving?
I've seen Dr. Phil, I was attempting to be funny. I don't have time for Dr. Phil... As for the 'texting while driving' thing, my own personal opinion is that a driver's license is far too easy to get, and far too easy to keep. A few states are trying to get tough with certain violations, for instance in North Carolina if you are convicted of reckless driving (it's easier than it sounds, according to the statute getting a ticket for going 70 in a 55 qualifies you) that will result in a license suspension of one year.

Repainting Grill
I've used this Duplicolor high performance wheel paint, in graphite, to do a lot of my suspension pieces. It withstands high temperatures, and is resistant to chipping. I intend to use it on my grille, too...... http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html

seat belt question
hd240z, this thread has some options for retracting belts: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24256

seat belt question
I concur. Wear the shoulder belt! One of my friends in the 510 community was wearing a lap belt only, and was involved in an accident. The amount of injury to his face and head was considerable, and even though he survived the accident he has to live every day with the pain and disfigurement that resulted from it.

Desmogging Hitachi Flat Tops
If you ever decide to go back to the round tops, just store the flat tops somewhere. That way, in the event that you ever decide to sell the car, you can say that it's low mileage, and has the 'better' carbs, but can easily be put back to original condition.

Desmogging Hitachi Flat Tops
I'd want to get it running as is, first, and not to complicate the equation too much. If you give in to the temptation to pull the smog stuff off of the car and then can't get the car started, you won't have a baseline to work from. Flush the fuel and go through the fuel system, get the car running and tuned halfway reasonably, and then pull off all of the anti-pollution stuff. Less potential trouble that way, and people will be able to help you more easily if you get jammed up somewhere.

Sputtering...loss of power....
An easy thing to do would be to drain the tank and just see what your gas looks like. If it's rusty, you will want to drop the tank and get it cleaned. Might be time for new fuel hoses, too. If your gas is stale and/or yellow looking, put in some fresh juice and see if it solves your problem. I had symptoms like yours when my mechanical fuel pump went bad, so Jimmy could be right about that (good call).

Need quick opinion!
If I'm remembering the gist of what he said in the book, it was that brazing was fine for small holes (like the pinholes that you would find in a floorpan). You obviously wouldn't want to do this for large holes.

jdm head light covers
I agree. And if their reasoning is that this will reduce the amount of 'phishing' that goes on, I think it's a knee-jerk reaction that likely won't do much good. After all, spammers have access to a lot of email addresses that come from other sources besides eBay. And I know that eBay says that shilling is against their policies, but I've wondered how much effort they put into actually enforcing that. After all, eBay is getting a nice big slice of those shilled goods, too.....

Need quick opinion!
The Wick Humble books talks about brazing in some detail. Do you have a copy of that book? Using brass as a filler is a pretty common technique, from what I understand, but I've never done it myself. I expect you'll get some more knowledgeable responses shortly.

Adding a Filler Neck Restrictor
There is a station here in town (Sunoco) that sells 110 octane leaded racing fuel. Just off the interstate, right near the airport. I don't think it would be possible to buy it by accident, since it's quite expensive and marked extremely well with various signs. I used to add a nice little shot of 110 to the tank when I was driving my high-strung, LZ22-powered 510, but I haven't put any in the 240Z's tank.... If someone needs a restrictor to keep themselves from adding diesel oil, kerosene, or sugar to their gas tank, then perhaps they should also handcuff themselves to a tree and throw their car keys as far away as possible. Just sayin'.
