BRE 510 on Ebay ?
As someone who has some experience with 510's -- I had a hot fuel-injected '68 two door that was built over a period of several years, and recently sold (a photo of it was in a recent issue of Sport Z, matter of fact) -- I can say that this car may be interesting from the perspective of possibly being a low miles car, but it's just a clone. There's nothing 'BRE' about this car other than the paint job. It has stock seats, stock suspension, a stock L16, and an upgraded transmission of some sort (certainly not a B210 tranny, because it won't fit, my guess is that it's a 200SX tranny, which will fit). The dead giveaway in my mind is the stock manifold, because unlike on the Z, going to headers is a tremendous power improvement on a 510. Any BRE car that I've ever seen has been upgraded with headers. Clone! Did anyone say clone? BRE sold performance parts in the aftermarket, but the only 'street car' that BRE did, to my knowledge, was the Yellow Zonker, which was Pete Brock's personal car. http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/Autoweek.html Is it worth $6000 or $7000 or whatever it's going to sell for? Maybe, but I doubt it. I'd want to see more documentation, rust-prone areas on the car, etc. But the seller has shown that he has very little idea of what he's got (the transmission not being 'as described' is a good example of this) and he's also uncooperative with regard to answering questions that are absolutely reasonable. Two red flags, in my book. Buyer beware! Oh, but wait a minute....if Pete Brock says the guy is a thief, that's good enough for me. Three, four, five red flags.

Ramses, hang in there. I've been there, and I can tell you that life gets better....lots better. Good luck with the car.

I have to downsize :(
No offense, but he never said that he had to sell because he was in the middle of a divorce. He said that due to a divorce, he doesn't have room to store the car. I am guessing that the divorce is final, that he's in a smaller place, and he doesn't have garage space, etc etc etc. I don't think that creative financing is going to help him solve that problem... Ramses, that's a sweet car, and I hope it makes reserve. If not, I hope that you are able to keep it somehow.

240Z values in rust belt - 2007
5) Keep it, and drive it. Since you have a very nice low mileage '71, this would give you an option for those days when you want to get out in the twisties without worrying about putting a scratch on your baby.... Might not be possible due to driveway, spousal, and other constraints, but if it is...........

My Truck Artical (Photo Edit Help Needed)
Call the mag and ask for someone in the art department. They should be able to run you out a PDF of the article in just a few minutes. No scanning, no stitching....it would be a perfect copy. I work for a book publisher and we do this all the time for authors, marketing types, web people, whoever.....

Considering buying #237 - Need Advice
Easy for you to say! Mike is being cautious, as well he should. The car has issues. It's definitely worth saving, but it's going to cost somebody an awful lot to do it right.

Considering buying #237 - Need Advice
For an 'east of the Mississippi' car, this one looks very good. I would still like to see shots of the battery tray and the interior floorboards, but the areas shown look to be far better than the average east coast car. If those areas are good, though, I think the asking price is fair, especially in light of the low VIN number. And I agree with what others have said...if you decide that you want it, grab it now...with both hands...you don't want this to be the one that got away.

How do you figure that? Pulling the emissions gear off instantly turns it into a Euro balance tube? I don't believe this is correct at all, because the 'euro' tubes that I've seen don't have any of the ports, supports, or bolt holes for the anti-pollution gear. This car clearly does have that stuff. Am I missing something totally obvious here?

I'm guessing that it's been wired for an electric fan. That would explain the electrical stuff on the left hand side of the radiator, as well as what looks like a temperature sender emerging from the top radiator hose. Looks like a decent little car, though. Let us know what happens!

early 240z brake master cylinder
My Nissan parts guy says that there are plenty of early Nissan master cylinders left in the system, but the problem with them is the price (they are not cheap, but on the other hand you get what you pay for). This is happening with a lot of Nissan parts now.....if you haven't priced an alternator from Nissan lately, get prepared for some massive sticker shock. You can add me to the list of those who bought a master cylinder recently.

Rear Hatch Weatherstripping help needed!
You need these parts from Nissan: 76910-N3000 76911-N3000 76911-N3000 See the attached diagram. This is what my Nissan parts guy told me, and it works well..... The rear hatch outer gutter weatherstrips have changed since the original 240Z type was produced. The only one available now (since 1978 actually) is the 260-280 type. The vertical pieces on those do not touch the hatch, the rubber is only there to cover the sharp edge of the gutter seam. My trick is to take two upper pieces which are still made like the original and cut straight sections out of them to use on the sides. That way the material is just like the 240 style all the way around. You will need to join the pieces carefully using weatherstrip cement and some small tubing that fits inside the tubular section of the top and side pieces. This will keep the ends of the sections butted together properly.
