Emblem Location on Rear BRE Spoiler? _ Poll
Different strokes for different folks. You also like the side marker lights, and I couldn't wait to get them off of my car. My goal with my car was to clean up the lines a little bit. I don't want major modifications or anything. I've got a Datsun emblem on the hood, a 'Z' vent emblem on each side, and a BRE spoiler front and rear. It's a Datsun. It's a Z. If someone wants more information, they can try to catch me and I'll happily fill them in. Personally I think that emblems on the spoiler would break up the lines of the car, aesthetically, and I don't want to do that. But to each his own!

anyone have big pics of flattops and roundtops?
Go to www.ztherapy.com and click on the 'Z Car Spotter's Guide' link. The photo on top is a Hitachi flat-top, and the other photos (the ones they rebuild, in other words) are round tops. Welcome to ClassicZCars!

Here is #110
Are you going back to the blue interior? Take a look at the photos in Kats' gallery. He has a blue-on-blue car and it is gorgeous....

Were the original factory or Interpart/BRE spoilers embossed with any sort of emblem?

I elected to go without. Of course, the only emblems on my car are on the rear roof vents and on the hood......

Discussing 240Z values, especially Low VIN
I don't know. I recently attended an estate auction in South Carolina, and there was a non-op '71 240Z on the block. It had very little rust and was supposedly a low-mileage car, but wasn't terribly original (had a '78 hood, aftermarket wheels, at least one repaint, 280Z seats, etc). The car ended up going for $7500. I was very surprised that the car commanded that kind of money, especially for a derelict vehicle, a total unknown with no maintenance records and a trashed interior. This is just anecdotal evidence, of course, but my sense is that the market is trending upwards at the moment.

Would you patch or cut and weld
I agree, and I've done it both ways. I had a 510 that was solid everywhere but in one spot where someone had tried to lift the car under the driver's side floorpan, and they ended up punching a small hole (you could fit two fingers into it, but it was starting to rust). I removed the interior of the car and POR-15'd the floorboards and patched the hole with the mesh. It's a very strong repair, and is good for small holes. I was extremely satisfied with this. On my Z, I had some larger issues (a baseball-sized hole under the passenger seat, along with a disassociated rear frame rail), and so I elected to replace one of the pans. There was also a smaller hole (very similar to yours) in the passenger footwell, at the bottom of the firewall. I purchased the pans (pictured above) from Charlie Osborne and have been very happy with them. My personal opinion, Randy, is that you should get under the car and poke around with a sharp object to see how rusted the metal around the holes is. If it's good (and I doubt it is), you can patch these areas with some new steel. Otherwise, bite the bullet and buy a set of new floorpans. That's my two cents.

My 71 240Z exhaust thread
I don't think you have to remove the headers. Isn't there an adapter that will get you down to 2.5"? I think that I've seen one on the MSA site, although it seems to me that one could be fabbed up pretty easily. But if you can lay your hands on the adapter, then you could just have your exhaust guy replace everything from the collector back.....

Junkyard & "Out to Pasture" Zs
Yeah, wow. Bet that put a little bounce in your step, eh? Looks like a corn snake to me (non-poisonous) but I can't see its' head to make sure. Probably a good strategy to let it be, regardless......

How difficult to replace struts?
It's very possible. Compressing the springs is the only part where you'll need to exercise some caution. Arne put together a nice little step-by-step procedure here at one point: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24724 Let us know if you get stuck, but this is easily something that you can do yourself if you have the slightest bit of mechanical skill.

Opinion needed (56k sorry pic heavy)
I saw the ad for this car on Craigslist. It will be a project, but it looks like a decent place to start from. Let us know how it goes.......

Just bought Z #3, 1973
Rick, I know you were a little disappointed in the bumps and scrapes that the car incurred during shipping, but I have to tell you that this looks like a very solid car to me. Shoot a coat of paint on her after you get the mechanicals done and you'll forget all about these little dings and scratches. Congratulations! This is a nice car.

Correct original mirror for 72 Z ??
Sometimes you can find them for a little less on eBay. I bit the bullet, too, when I painted my car....seemed like a lot at the time for me, but I haven't been sorry that I did it. The mirror is metal and there's a lot of chrome. It really looks nice with the new paint.

New guy in South Carolina
Hello, and welcome to the club!

260 Newbie
A lot of times what will happen is that rust flakes will collect near the pickup tube, and even if the tank looks good otherwise you will find that these little bits are being sucked into your filters or worse. Your instinct is good here, do it once and do it right. There are lots of threads on this site that will give you step by step instructions on how to drop the tank, clean up the fuel lines, and otherwise get a derelict car running again. There is a photo of an installed Charlie Osborne floorpan in the link in my sig, so if you want to see what one looks like in the car, feel free to take a peek. You'll get lots more good advice, I think, once you post some pictures. Members here are really helpful when it comes to pointing out possible trouble spots or giving advice on how to proceed with a particular project. Paint code 302 is a light green, right? That's a nice color.

Congratulations on the new Z, and welcome to the club! You're going to want to drop that tank before you try to start the car. The S30's are notorious for getting rust in the tank if they're allowed to sit; not to mention the old stale gas turns to jelly. Drop the tank and see what's going on....you'll want to blow the lines out and replace the filters at a minimum. Floorpans are easily sourced; I got mine from Charlie Osborne in Canada and have been very happy with the fitment. Again, welcome! We'll all be anxious to see some pictures of your new 260.

new Z owner from Malaysia..Hi All!!

Rick, you might consider taking those carbs off the car and giving them a good cleaning. My exhaust looked like yours (cough cough) until I cleaned all the (cough) funk off of the (cough) pistons, etc, and adjusted the carbs according to the ZTherapy video instructions. The more my car has been driven since then, the less smoky stank I've had to put up with....just a thought.

The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance
Oh yeah....Stacey and I will definitely be up for some beach time. Those temps in the middle of March would be A-OK with us. February and early March are generally the coldest weeks of the winter here in Asheville (it's cold up here at 3000 feet). This trip is sounding better all the time.......

1970's original Key Blank(oval top)
Well, I'm speechless..... I don't know what kind of response you expected, but my advice would be to put the key blanks up on eBay and get whatever cash you think you deserve for them. I don't want your key blanks, I have no use for your key blanks. I have my original set of keys. But quite frankly, I'm disappointed that a member of the club would use chicanery in an attempt to get information, and I'm shocked that the same member would then make the statement above to fellow club members. Maybe I expect too much of a fellow Z driver, but to me this club is about friendship, camaraderie, and shared interest...not about cashing in on fellow club members. Wow.

Got the new Z home today
Oooooh, she's a pretty girl. Where'd you find her, Randy?
