...And she's off the road!
Oh, man. Sorry to hear about that..... How bad is it going to be to get it fixed?

My first Z car! 56k....you guys are still around?
Did you mean to say 'sub-5000' on that VIN? The car looks pretty clean, especially the interior. Congratulations!

This is a great thread. Keep up the good work!

Light covers or not?
The factory covers (with the chrome strip) are completely unobtainium. I picked up a set of the aftermarket covers (the same ones that MSA sells, I believe) on eBay for $40. Be patient and you'll find a set at a good price.

What is wrong with the 350Z?
The 350Z, for all intents and purposes, is a chopped down G35. To me, that's what's wrong with it. I can see what they were trying to do, because they got a lot of the performance aspects right. But my guess is that Nissan's engineers made a lot of sacrifices in order to maintain the shared platform and, like someone else said, they lost a lot of the car's soul in the process. Personally, I find it a bit odd that the wedge-shaped body reminds me less of the G35 and much more of the last-generation (ugly) Toyota Celica, though.... The price to performance ratio is pretty good, and the car looks okay enough. But it doesn't say 'Z' to me.

Your feelings about Z's
No, I agree with you on this. The RX-8 in a lot of ways is a perfect 'adult' sports car type vehicle (considering that many of us have to take kids to school, occasionally carry more than one passenger, etc). I just prefer a car with more torque and low-end 'grunt' than what the RX-8 can deliver. If Nissan could come out with a simple, clean design that was S30-esque with good power and in RWD, I know they would sell at least one.

Your feelings about Z's
What might be interesting is if someone were to do a 'design perspective' for the Z, similar to what Steve Eastwood did not too long ago for the 'Neo' 510.... http://www.s-e-design.com/sedesign_113.htm

Hello Everyone
I know, I know, I know......I also had some other stuff going on, too, and it just wasn't possible. Next year for sure, though. I am committed to doing the ZVention in Daytona Beach, as well (I went to school in DeLand, so it will be a return to my old stomping grounds).

Hello Everyone
I had planned on going, but when it came right down to it, my car was still in four hundred pieces..... Next year for sure.

Hello Everyone
Motorsport Auto still has copies of the 'Zeal' print, or at least they did a short while ago. Here is a copy of the Mitty 2006 poster..... mitty06.pdf

She's finally on the road...
Nicely done. Funny how that front air dam makes the car look a lot longer.....

Hello Everyone
Thanks! They used that image for the Walter Mitty posters this year, too. It's really a great piece of art...you're lucky to have one of the prints.

Heater Control Panel
This is true. It always takes two....one guy who bids too much and loses, and one guy who bids too much and wins!

Hello Everyone
Hello! I've sort of been lurking in here for a while, and yesterday decided that it was time to get signed up and start participating. I'm 36, have owned 510s in the past but this is my first Z. I bought a '71 last fall - it's white with a blue interior and a five-speed tranny - and have been slowly going through it. It is all pretty much original, so I replaced the 'worn out' stock suspension with Tokico shocks and springs, installed ES bushings all around and an ST sway bar up front....then I got busy on the brakes. Slotted rotors, newly rebuilt calipers and Hawk pads, new Brembo drums and Nissan shoes in the rear. Braided stainless hoses are giving me a nice firm pedal now... I pulled off the stock air cleaner and installed K&N filters with some MSA air horns, converted to Pertronix electronic ignition, and added a hot coil and a gel battery. Next item on the list is an IR alternator....I also pulled the stock two-row radiator and installed a three-row stock type radiator from MSA (they no longer stock the four-row radiator, apparently). I have some floor pans that I got from Charlie Osborne, and I'll be having those welded in soon (probably just on the passenger side, since the driver floor looks solid). I'll need some work in the battery tray area while I'm at it. Once that's done, though, I'll be able to start reassembling the interior of the car (I have a Z logo carpet kit, Momo wheel, and soon I'll have some new 'blue' vinyl on the seats). One of my winter projects will be having the door panels repaired (just some minor tears and stuff), and re-dyeing all of the interior panels with SEM vinyl dye (and I think Wedgewood Blue is going to be my color of choice). I had thought about flaring the car, but then decided to go with some more reasonable wheels and tires (especially since I still have the L24 and I want to keep it). I'm running some 15" Konig Rewinds (graphite) and Goodrich gForce Sport tires. I had thought about getting some 'new' Ztherapy carbs and I probably will eventually, but for now I'm going to stick with the carbs that are on the car. At any rate, that's me! I live in North Carolina, by the way. Hope I haven't forgotten anything.... Brian
