  1. I do like the car but I can't se how it represents the Z as the car of the year. All of the body has been replaced, so has the drivetrain. It looks like it has less Z parts than other parts. To me it is like building a Cobra kit and calling it a Cobra. That being said, I did vote for it
  2. Car manufacturers have not had pins holding on the emblems for over 25 years. They all use double sided tape, not glue. The best way is to cut the pins and put the tape on the emblem, use a knife to trim it to the outline then peel and stick it to the car.
  3. I know it's not a Z but Dad is still driving his 66 Roadster he bought new in 66. There are a surprising number of 1 owner Roadsters out there for the small production numbers. I am the 2nd owner of my 64 1500 and my 17 year old Son is the 2nd owner of a 70 2000. Dad drives the Roadster at least once a week still.
  4. With sign vinyl thicker is not better, that is why 2 mil is much more expensive than 4. The thinner it is the easier it conforms and the longer it lasts. When using it for signs that will be outdoors the thickest you want to go is 2.5 mil for anything but a temporary sign (under 6 months). Even at that the 2.5 mil sign is expected to have a 4 year outdoor life while a 2 mil has a 7 year life. In the sign business it has to do with the wind blowing against the edge of the vinyl while outdoors, thinner vinyl has less edge. Trying to wrap a car with no experience is going to be tough, especially with anything heavier than 2 mil. 2 mil will stretch much easier and conform to the curves. I call it sign vinyl but it is the same stuff that wraps are made of. Oracal 751 is a great vinyl for the $$$

Mid 80's Subaru or Mitsubishi, I can't remember. 86ish Subaru XT comes to mind
  6. Lean it out as much as you can and still get good power. It will run hotter so I would do it about a block before the station....
  7. Just to throw something else into the mix, 1500 Roadsters were badged Fairlady in all markets, but from 65 on the US models were badged 1600's. That being said, one of my employees has a 66 1600 that was sold in Japan to a soldier, driven for 2 years and shipped to the USA. It is a LHD car, but it has Fairlady badges, tear drop marker lenses (did not come on the US versions until 69) and bullet style mirrors. So it is a LHD car with JDM features from new. It is a well documented car with photos to show that is how it came from the factory.
  8. Why badger the guy over the VIN? From what I see he keeps getting questions about the VIN from people that have no interest in purchasing the car.
  9. You did not invest your money in the machine to do the job, the shop did, and they deserve to reap the rewards. What was the alternative, do it yourself? Do you not make a profit at your job? Why didn't you ask the cost before they did the work?
  10. I couldn't tell if the angle was hiding the holes...
  11. Bottom one looks like the lower inside door pull for a Roadster.

If it was such a great deal, why did you say offer less?
  13. But the owner got 19 years of enjoyment out of it, that is worth more than the $8-$10K "loss" to me... Not driving a car so it will be worth more down the road is foolish to me, cars are meant to be driven, not stored or towed on a trailer, I have driven my 64 Datsun 1500 from Maryland to Road Atlanta a few times and go to Watkins Glen every year. Driving there is 1/2 of the fun.
  14. As reported on post #6 of this thread.....
  15. They are reporting it as a sex act gone bad.... hung himself while masturbating, not the way I would want to be remembered...
  16. Actually the car has not been restored, just cared for and garage kept since new. The motor has never been taken apart, but has had stuff replaced (Starters, Alternator, etc.) He uses Mobil 1 and has for years. He changes the just the oil filter every 6000 miles (unscrews the old and screws on the new) and the oil every 12,000 miles. Last time I saw it (last summer) it had 317K miles. He has had the carbs redone a few times.

The stress cracks are because the gas tank straps hook into the floor and the weight pulls on the trunk. The hooks that go into the trunk floor can be turned 180 degrees and hook into the frame which solves the issue, which I recommend for Bonzi..... It is a 1600 which is a fairly bulletproof motor but it sounds like it might need a head gasket, but that is a simple job. Again the issue is how much of a project do you want? You could have $4500 in this one fairly quickly and still have a car that needs work, or you can just buy a nicer one for the $4500
  18. He is one of my best friends, that's why I know

Not any more. Most of us Roadster guys have a pile of it in the garage. The Mass. club site is www.drone-club.com Parts are out there, some expensive, some free. Just like any other car buying the best one instead of a project is the better way to go. The main thing if you get it is get it running and drive it before deciding to take it apart and "restore" it. Many Roadsters get driven home and immediately taken to pieces only to be sold as "projects" 2 years later. There are also bad Roadster sellers as there are bad Z sellers. Where is the Roadster located? Photos would help of course, but the main issues are rust and brakes. If the brakes are bad it will cost about $600 to get them right, not bad on a $10K Roadster but a bit much on a $1300 one...
  20. One of the guys that works for ExxonMobil in the marketing dept. has a 72 240Z. He bought it new and has driven it to work for the last 27 years so they snuck it in there

My guess is it all depends on what type of car you want and how much you already have in it. If you have a $4000 driver than spending $1000 on fog lights is foolish, if you have a $35K show car, it is a drop in the bucket. If you think correct Z parts are expensive, try Roadster parts, then try 1500 Roadster parts.... I looked for a NOS washer bottle for my 1500 for 4 years, it was the last part I needed. When I finally found one, I paid a fortune (4 figures for a piece of plastic)
  22. Without opening a huge can of worms again, there is your problem. Who knows how it was put together coming from that guy.
  23. I noticed you put a watermark copyrighting that design as yours. The Z at the bottom is copyrighted by Nissan as is the image of the Z itself. Nissan has sent cease and desist orders to people trying to make a profit off of their designs. Be careful.
  24. Actually $2950 would be a steal. If you have it for 2 years the cost of a new one will be about $4500, so selling yours for $4000 would save someone $500. I can't buy mine used for less than I paid for it new a few years ago...
  25. Most of us Roadster guys have never heard of classicfairlady.com...... I think a sub forum is not a bad idea.
