The lowest HP was in 1975, see my quote above. The L82 was never below 205 HP

I looked at a 74 once, I couldn't figure out why it was so slow until I researched it some. This should make you not consider one anymore. The base L48 engine put out 165 hp (123 kW), and the optional L82 engine put out 205 hp (153 kW). This was the lowest horsepower Corvette since the first year of production. 205 HP in a very heavy car. No wonder a Z will smoke one.

The best wax I have found is Malms. It is a little costly, but a little goes a long way. I used it on my 64 1500, to bring up the original paint. Here is a photo of how it looks on 43 year old paint
  4. I always figure the difference between the actual postage, and the charge is for the box, time it takes to pack, and the time to drive to the post office. The guys time has to be worth something, no one works for free.
  5. Best guess is they switched because of fuel injection. The BP6ES was stock on the Roadsters, through the 260's, so there must be some reason.
  6. It is the original 30+ year old paint. If it had been repainted, people would be posting "$12,500 for a repainted car?" If you read the other threads you would be led to believe it cost $40K to "do it right". That is what is said every other time a nice one comes up for sale.
  7. for example, if it states "rust free" when there's clearly rust in the pictures provided. I just read the auction, no where does this one say no rust. It says restored, ok, some of us have different ideas of what that means. I see people on this forum say "fram up" and "frame off" restored. I have never seen a Z car with a frame........
  8. Can anyone point me to a thread where there is a car for sale and no one tears it apart? Every thread I see always has people picking the cars apart, are yours all perfect? To me this looks like a very nice car, not perfect, but nice. I was at a Z show one time and a guy started picking apart the chrome on my 64 1500 hubcaps, telling me it was the worst rechrome job ever. Shame they were never redone, it was just the way stuff was done in 64. I asked him if his 1500 was nicer, and his exact quote was " I have never seen one before, much less own one"
  9. What if it is truly a mistake? If the car checks out like it has not been wrecked?
  10. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-240Z-LOW-MILES-EX-CONDITION-MAKE-TAKE-TRADES-FLA_W0QQitemZ150104188583QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Seems like a deal at the BIN of $8K, am I missing something?

They say it is not from that find. It does need a lot of work, just from sitting. Yes it will go for more than $30K. Shipping is almost $5K, there are not many shipping companies in Portugal.
  12. No where in the auction does it say complete set. Who claims it is complete?
  13. It Is relevant. In 1978 they said the world would be out of oil by 1995, so in 1978 the answer based on "popular opinion" would have been until 1995! That being said, I don't think it will be as much as an issue with the limited amount of driving the "classic cars" do. It is like with the smog issue, sure, my 64 Datsun 1500 has no smog equipment, but it gets driven a few thousand miles a year, compared to my daily driver that has the smog stuff, and gets driven a lot.
  14. It went to Dan Banks
  15. I look forward to seeing it in Dan's new garage
  16. Mike, I hope my post did not come off wrong, I am glad you got it. I just figured the seller would be like most sellers, and take the easy way out. I know most people would just sell it to the local guy, so there would not be the hassle of the shipping involved. My bet is he wanted it to go to a good home, like most of us do when we sell stuff. Money isn't everything.
  17. I would say you're done. The other guy is local and has seen the car in person. You have been going back and forth for a week, are 3000 miles away, and made an offer instead of full price. If you really wanted it, you would not have posted the ad here, and would have offered him what he wanted. Just think of it as saving yourself $20K that it would have cost to restore. Personally It looked like a car that could have been enjoyed as a driver for awhile to me.

All Datsun/Nissans are encouraged to come by. It would be really nice to meet a bunch of Nissan/Datsun people and hopefully make it a yearly event.

The color looks really close to the copper on my 78 280 in the photo. Is it close in person?
  21. The service is fantastic. See if any other insurance company would do this: My Dad's car broke down here in Maryland. He borrows a 69 Datsun 2000 and drives it home to North Carolina. 3 days later a pizza guy hits it hard enough to put it on the sidewalk, he has no insurance. Hagerty says take it to whatever shop you want, they would even cover the tow to MD if needed. It was taken to a shop close to Dad's that does restorations. He gave an estimate and Hagerty mailed a check. $8K of damage. No problems here.
  22. Will everyone stop being logical? These photos and independent verifications of who owns the cars, can't be considered proof. Mat's friend said they were crushed, they must have been crushed.
  23. As the owner of a few sign shops, I would say take it there and let them do it. That being said, here are some tips. 1st, no heat. It will distort the vinyl. 2nd, no windex. It will eventually break down the pigment. 3rd, no grease pen or chalk. It will affect how well the vinyl sticks. Take a spray bottle filled with water and put (1) drop of diswashing soap in it. Only (1) drop. Spray the area of the car where the vinyl will be. The wetter it is, the longer it will take to dry, and you will have more bubbles, but they will come out easier and it will be easy to adjust. Does that make sense? After spraying the panel, peel the backing from they vinyl and put it where you want it to go, (lining up the top and sticking from top to bottom is easier on rockers) don't be afraid to peel off and restick, if it is not right. Use a squeegee (credit card works) to press it on the car and remove bubbles. If it is really wet, let it dry some before removing top tape layer. If there are some bigger bubbles still left the easist thing is to carefully lift up that section and restick. Most people damage the vinyl trying to squeegee out bubbles at this stage. This is one of those things that sounds harder than it is, most people are too cautious when doing it, and that leads to the water drying out and stretching the vinyl. The best advice would be to get a scrap piece from a sign shop and practice with that on a window a few times.
  24. Me? or the original poster? My source, I know people that own them
  25. Actually the cars Nissan did not keep were sold to employees, and friends of employees. They were not crushed.
