Lots of looks, but not many bids on my 71.
BD, Don't hold back, tell me how you really feel................ As I said earlier, I want to show everything I can about the car. I really could have displayed the pictures to show a "restored" car, but it's not,it's a really nice clean driver. Yes, the issues you pointed out should be attended to if you want to show the car and have it judged, but mechanically it is fine. My welder has already looked over the car, he's ready to do the floors (he also just finished the floors on 797) and said no big deal. I really should spend about $1500 to do the floors and componets, and a nice engine detail then relist in the fall. Might have to do that anyway because the car is not near the reserve price, and I don't have to sell it. Thanks for pointing out those areas, because while I see them they don't register an alarm to me, but others see things I don't so I appreaciate the critisism.

Hey guys, Thanks for the input, that was my original plan but with ebay only charging $9.00 to list it I thought I would see how it faired. Your right I don't have to sell it, but it would be easier to complete 797 if I did.......patience....Randy......patience.........and I could get the lift!!!! Here are a few of the emails I got.............. "Dear seller, If you end the auction now I will send you $3500 cash!...don't delay".......... "Dear seller, you do realize your car is 38 years old, I will give you $2,000 for it if you end the auction now and haul it away for free" But my favorite is......"Dear seller, The Datsun brand is no longer being made, parts can't be found and the 240 was the worst of the Z series. I wil be happy to send you $3,000 for the car if you end the auction now". I was actually looking forward to the emails just to bring a little laughter to my day.

Looks like a very good deal.....

Lots of looks, but not many bids on my 71.
Hey Mike, There was a small rust hole that the PO had cut out too much around it and welded in that patch and more fiberglass. The plate is actually fine, the picture doesn't show it like it should. Compared to most EBay sellers I'm just way too honest, I could have used pictures to make this car look like it was perfect, but I'm just not like that, I want to disclose everything I can. Tim, Your right, it's awful hard to video with one hand, while driving and changing gears with the other........but I'm a professional......., :stupid:

Lots of looks, but not many bids on my 71.
Hey Zak, No offense taken at all, I was hoping to get some critical advice. I really should have waited and just had the shop put in the new floors and cut away everything else, if it doesn't hit the reserve thats the plan, but it will be late in the year. What else do you guys see that I need to improve? I'm a driver not really an expert at the specifics, so any advice being positive or negative is welcomed. Thanks folks,

Lots of looks, but not many bids on my 71.
In case you have been on EBay you may have noticed my Green 71 listed, lots of looker's but not many bids......ok, high bids. Do you guys think my floors are hurting me that bad, I guess I should have replaced them and then listed it, oh well. If it doesn't met the reserve I'll get to it this fall. The 70 model should be ready in 2 to 4 weeks, and of course we went over budget, but this car will be perfect when were done. Would like to keep both but I can't find the extra money tree seeds...... Randy

Any clue where to find this piece....?
Thanks for the heads up Zak, I was going to search but didn't have the item name to look for it. If these can't be found what else would be appropriate to use to hold the lines.....oops, scratch that, just read the last thread....didn't see it at first.

Any clue where to find this piece....?
Does anyone know where to find the black plastic piece that holds the brake lines on the inside of the engine bay. I'm not sure what the technical name is and I looked in the usual places, but can't seem to locate this piece. Any ideas...... Thanks, Randy

Where does this go....?
Thanks Terry, I guess I can actually just remove it since I'm pulling the a/c out. Thanks for the info.

Where does this go....?
Hey guys, It's a 1970 model with aftermarket air that I am going to remove. It is a 4spd. There is quite a bit more "slack" in the wires, I would say another 14-18 inches so it could reach almost anywhere. The main black wire goes back into the firewall under the hood catch. Thanks for the input.
-
Where does this go....?
I thought I would try and start putting a few pieces back on the engine bay, but I just can't remember where this goes......I put it on the firewall just to show the item (a relay I guess). I know it doesn't go there, it was just to show the piece but where does it attach........... Thanks, Randy

If you did not have your Z....
Your on......Can it be a model, otherwise I'm still short about 6-9 million.... Maybe I can just put Ferrari badges on my Z and tell the folks at the gas station it's a 250, since 1 out of 3 always ask me....."Is that a Ferrari"...

Undercoating.....What did you use.
I went by the shop today to check on the Z and the painter had just finished applying this undercoating that looks alot like a rhino liner type of product. The new floors from Zedd's were put in a few weeks ago and were covered with por 15, and the outside received this. I'm happy with it because I am going to be driving the car and it needed to be protected, but would this be considered appropriate to a purist? What is the acceptable method for undercoating? A little late now, but was curious to what others thought. Thanks,

Total Rookie Question re: engine
When I bought the car last year it was in wonderful running condition, but it had another block from a 71 240. The seller still had the original block so I picked it up a few weeks later. I guess there really is no reason to replace it yet, but in the future it would be nice to have it back in.
-
Total Rookie Question re: engine
Yes, It's from number 797, production date is 1/70.....missed the "69" club by one month. Thanks for the tips, I eventually want to get this rebuilt and put it back in.
-
Total Rookie Question re: engine
Thanks for the heads up......I think I will just leave it alone and hit it with the WD or ATF.

Total Rookie Question re: engine
I have a block on an engine stand in the garage and have a real noob question....(I rank low on the mechanical side ). It has been serving just as an art piece but I thought I might take it apart and clean the inside. I was going to start by removing all the bolts you see pictured or is that the wrong starting point. I may one day use this block so I also want to make sure I'm not doing more harm than good. Also, as it sits should the pistons be able to move by pushing on them? Because these won't budge. So, any advice. Thanks, Randy

Junkyard & "Out to Pasture" Zs
Found an old album with these in them....... My very first 240Z that was creamed after after only three weeks. If I knew then what I know now I would have "liberated" some of the interior and front end....or at least bought it back. But when your a teenager that $4,000 insurance check looks to nice.

act your age. Wait no... Post your age
42 years of living........ Bought my first 240Z as a junior in high school, a 1972 silver metallic with red interior. Had it three weeks until I was hit by a 83 year old driver and my car was destroyed. After insurance bought a 70 model Mustard Yellow and drove it till after college. Since I can remember I have always loved the 240Z. Currently have a 1970 and 1971 model.

Front Grill info needed
I am in need of a front grill for my 1970 240, will the grill's off of a 72 or 73 fit? I did a search but nothing came up. I have no idea if they are any different on the early cars. Is there an aftermarket one? Thanks for any info, or if someone has a nice example and wants to sell it let me know. Thanks, Randy
