Well, the 240z is outnumbered right now until the restoration of 797 comes home..........Then I've got to find some more space. 1970 Datsun 240Z (Not pictured under restoration) 1971 Datsun 240Z 1975 Porsche 911S (Silver Anniversary Edition) 1963 Porsche 356B

  5. Rob, Not to sound like a broken record but the experts who have spoken earlier are giving you great advice. Here's a brief summary of some of my projects in the last few years, maybe it will give you a ball park idea of some cost. 1973 240Z in very good condition......Bought for $3500, invested another $7000 plus to get it in a #3 condition. 1973 240Z in poor condition with minimal rust.....Bought for $1000 invested $300, decided too big a project and sold for $1400. This was a running car with a very nice interior but would have spent another $10k plus easy. 1971 240Z in very nice condition, already have about $8 to $10k in the car. To get it just to a number #2 condition I would have to spend another $8-10K, but this is my weekend driver and it's perfect for what I use it for. 1970 240Z in very good condition but going through complete restoration. After I'm through with it I will be afraid to look at the receipts...... If you really want a 240Z do as Carl suggested and buy a $6k car, and then refresh it as you can. If you start on this 73, you are going to need several thousand just to get started. PS.....Here's the pictures of the 4 cars mentioned above so you can relate them to your project. Good luck and welcome to the club. Randy

The Z barn is great......(if I can catch Roger that is).... He has been a great resource. Mike, yes once everything is out it will be blasted again. We wanted to see if there were any major issues hiding. I wasnt concerned with the soda going everywhere as the interior will be removed and the inside restored. (Thats the part I really enjoy). More pictures soon.

I decided when I bought 797 that I would be restoring her back to original condition, today the entire car including all jambs and engine bay was soda blasted........and the fears of the "Rust Monster" were not to be. The entire car is very solid save the small area that was cut out, it was only just begining to rust so it was removed, had we not blasted it I'm sure it would have made it's way to the interior of the car. Engine, glass, hatch, fenders, hood, etc all come off later this week and hopefully will be ready for primer in a week or so. Here's a picture, of course I forgot my camera so I had to use my cell phone. The shop however is documenting the entire process on digital. I'll post some more pictures when I get back over there. Randy PS......That Soda blasting is amazing
  8. Does anyone know where I can get all three heater control knobs with the screws? I have checked MSA, BD, Ebay, and Classic Datsun with no luck. Thanks for any leads. Randy
  9. Thanks for the info,
  10. Does anyone have a ball park idea of what a clutch replacement with parts and labor would run? I may need to replace mine in the near future and was looking for a rough guess. Thanks,
  11. Guys, Thanks so much for the info on the rubber and the carpet.
  12. For the experts that know a heck of alot more than me can you help me with a correct interior question. I am going to restore 797 back to it's original state and needed to know about the carpet. Would it have been Black in the front and hatch area for all cars. 797 is White with Blue interior and currently has Black front carpet and Blue hatch carpet. What would be the correct color for the interior carpet? Also, since the car has been media blasted and all imperfections corrected I will need new rubber for everything. I noticed that MSA sells a "kit" does this kit include all the rubber I'll need, or does anyone have a different vendor that sells the rubber in a kit. Thanks for any help, I'll try and get some pictures up soon. Randy
  13. I have searched a few areas for the front bumper guards and rubber strips for both the front and back......(and had brief sticker shock). Who or where would you guys recommend getting these pieces from? Once I get 797 put back together I really hate to put these bent guards and cracked rubber back on. Thanks for any direction, or if anyone has a used set in nice condition give me a shout. Randy

If anyone needs seats for their 240Z here is a set that needs recovering. These came out of a 1973. I have them boxed and ready to go. Looks like shipping could be anywhere from $70 to $120 going ground. If anyone wants them add $20 to the shipping price and they are yours, or if your near just come get them. I need the space instead of the seats. I would rather see if anyone here wants them before ebay or craigslist. Randy

  16. Congrats on the lift, it looks great. I'm still searching for someone who can deliver locally. You know RI isn't that far from Knoxville so when I get one come down and help me put it together......... Couple of quick questions: Did you bolt yours into the concrete. What was your assembly time. Did you use a hoist or just a couple of guys to lift the heavy parts. Have fun this weekend........

Ok, I have searched all over the forum and couldn't find any refrence. I want to paint the engine and wanted to know what color Blue was used, is there a rattle can that is really close to the color or is there an exact match somewhere? If so where can I buy it. Thanks,

The hole in the arm is to far away to mount it that way, I can get it to work if I move one arm to the lower bracket but wasnt sure if you should have two arms in one bracket hole. Does that makes sense? If I could drill an extra hole in the arm I could mount it like yours. Do you think it's ok to use just three arms, or would you move one to the lower bracket.

Thanks for the heads up, I went ahead and got both 10mm and 12mm last weekend. I used spacers with the 10mm but could only attach three of the four arms to the block, do you think that will be ok? I tried various configurations but could only get three to work. Let me know if you would change something. Oh, yea......now that I got it on this stand what am I suppossed to do...:stupid: I think first I'll give it some paint.

I just bought my first engine stand to store/clean/repair the original block from a 1970. I put the stand together and after all was completed it stated engine bolts not included. My question is how do you attach the block to the stand. What size bolts do I need...10mm? Where do they bolt in, how long, etc. I'm sure this is easier than I'm making it. Also if someone has a picture please post one up. Thanks, Randy
  23. One day left.......someone buy this thing................. (a shameless Plug on my part) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Datsun-240z-Silver-and-Black_W0QQitemZ110299459891QQihZ001QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Are you located in Nashville? I'm in Knoxville, I figure after you finish with yours I can drop mine off since you'll have more experience..... Keep the updates coming, I've enjoyed watching your progress. If my 73 doesn't sell I'm going to start taking her apart....you have given me inspiration. Good luck, Randy

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to this project since I don't have to do much mechanical work...... In 1970 only the Universal Blue and Kilimanjaro White had the Blue interior....accourding to sources. In 1983 I had a 1970 Universal Blue on Blue, my favorite car I've ever owned but was sadly rearended and totaled. Mike, what is a red dot mirror? I guess I should know this..... Carl, picking the block up next week, I'll let you know. I would have used the quote feature but couldn't figure it out. I'll get some more info later today, including the history.
