  1. I found some original 73 steelies and they cleaned up pretty good. Thanks to everyone in my last post for the suggestions on painting these.
  2. I have been looking for a radio and wheelcovers / hubcaps for a 73 240. Ebay has one set, but the seller has zero feedback and just joined ebay a few weeks ago so I'm a little reluctant. Ebay also has an oem radio for....$249.00...Are there any other sellers/stores that carry these items? I live in Knoxville, TN and the Zbarn has not responded in over a week, however I hear they are in the process of moving. I searched other posts, and visited most Z stores, but they don't carry the hubcaps or radios, any other suggestions. Thanks, Randy
  3. Hey Doug, The car is coming from PA, however it's a Texas Z, only been in PA for a year. I spoke with the transporter tonight and he said it was assigned to a driver for Friday pick-up. They state should be here Tuesday......I hope.
  4. Anyone have any photos of the steel wheels I could use as a guide? Thanks again for all your knowledge. A quick edit, I checked the site posted from 7t1240 and if you go to "240z" and then click "wheels" the 73 I just bought looks just like this one......ok, not near as good but same color and those panasports look GREAT, I may have to look into those. My car is still waiting to be picked up by the transport company, hopefully I'll have it sometime next week, Thanks again. http://www.classicdatsun.com/
  5. Thanks for the info guys. One last question though, I found a set of steel rims actually here in Knoxville for $50.00. They were off of another 73, they are true, no bends but need a good cleaning. I searched the post but most threads were about "Alloy's" Should these wheels be painted, or just cleaned real good?? What do y'all (southern term) recommend in the cleaning / painting area. What's best for the old "steelies"......and yes I'm going to be putting the stock hup caps back on. Thanks, Randy

Do any of you know if the side molding on some of the 72 and 73 240's is stock? I've noticed a few on ebay and other classifieds that have the black strip running down both sides of the car. It doesnt look bad, but I like the cleaner look. The 73 I just purschased has this but the car is still in transit, so I havent seen it in person. Is this molding screwed on, can it be taken off without showing any damage, etc. Any thoughts please let me know. Here is a link to one on ebay that has the molding in case I'm calling it by the wrong term. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-DATSUN-240Z_W0QQitemZ150065187522QQihZ005QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  7. Thanks Doug, What site do you recommend for wheels, who's got a nice selection with good prices. Thanks. PS...Your wheels look great!
  8. I actually found a nice 73 that should be here sometime next week, I'll post some pics when it arrives. I did receive these photos from a member here that is selling there Z, it looks good from the pics, His name is "rickydonna" I think. If anyone is looking this might be your ticket.
  9. Steve, Thanks, and let me know about the wheels I would be very interested in buying them. Thanks, Randy
  10. I just bought a 1973 240, but don't like the aftermarket wheels that are on it. It is a very original Z, save for the wheels and dash cap and I would like to put back on the original 14's.....I think. I haven't owned a 240 since 1982 so my aged brain can't remember much. First would you even go back to the 14's with hubcaps, or get something else. If I wanted the originals, do they make an oem type? if so where? Or if I go with a different wheel, what would be the best correct size for the rims? Where do you folks recommend buying wheels. I know these are newbie questions, and I did do a search, but didn't find anything. Thanks for any help.
  11. Thanks Carl and everyone else, I have decided on NOT getting this one, the price was......$6k for everything, that's quite alot for a non-running Z, however the body and interior were perfect, everything looked like it just rolled off the lot. I actually went ahead and bought a 73 today that I have been eying for awhile, so I'm holding my breath until the transport company arrives. It's a very original 240 that runs very well and looks nice. Small surface rust, rails and fenders look good, as does the battery box and half the price as the non-running one. Hopefully will be here in the next 7-14 days. I'll post up some pics when my new addition arrives. Thanks for all the advice guys, and keep it coming because I'm sure to have more questions. Regards, Randy Mally
  12. Thanks for the advice guys, I haven't pulled the trigger on the deal yet, but thinking real hard. I'll let you know if it works out and send some photos.
  13. Well......... THE GOOD: I found a great 73 with minimal to no rust and very original. Interior is like new, 2 owner car, perfect body, rails, floors, etc. Current owner has had it since 1979. THE BAD: (Here is what was written) "The timing chain had stretched a little and I decided it was time for a replacement. The head is off and was completely checked by a local machine shop as well as other component parts. The pistons and rods were removed and the cylinders were honed and inspected with a micrometer, no noticeable wear. When I reinstalled them, they were hand cleaned/polished and new rings and rod bearings were put on. I decided to check everything else as well as hand clean, polish, paint where necessary, etc. Every nut and bolt was put into it's correct spot for easy reassembly"...... Soooooo, What kind of cost would I be looking at in having the engine "put back together" I'm not much of mechanic, and wouldn't even attempt this, or should I???? Alot of you have much more experience than I do so your thoughts would be appreaciated. Thanks guys,
  14. I talked with the guy from the KY today, he says 6 out of 7 used to run fine and would only take a day to get 6 of them on the road again, I'm going to try and make it out there next week. Arne thanks for the link, the Red one in WA looks promising.
  15. Thanks for the input folks, and your right about the 73's, I have already put them back into my search. It's amazing how hard it is to actually find a decend 240, I have searched EVERYWHERE with not much luck. I didn't know it was going to be this hard to spend money..... Again, anyone looking to sell give me a shout. Mally.
  16. Does anyone have any pictures of a 240 with White interior? I have never seen one and found one for sale, however the seller does not have a computer.....(older gentleman who stated he would never have one) and therefore cannot send me any photos. He stated the interior is white with black carpet. The car is 1973, does this sound stock? Thanks for any help..... PS, what do you guys think about white?????
  17. Thanks for the input. By the way whats shipping cost running these days, if I found a car in CA and shipped it to TN I would think $1k or so, you guys have any experience with this. Also any thoughts on a 72 with White interior and ele. ignigtion. There's a car in NC that the owner says is mostly original with exception to dist, fusebox, and 5 spd. asking $5900. Heres the link: http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/3/1/86605631.htm
  18. Hey Folks, I checked out the classifieds, but there's not much for sale, or any recent additions........so, are any you looking to sell your 240? I have been searching for a nice, decent, hopefully original 70-72 240. There have been a few on ebay with questionable character. If anyone is interested in selling please let me know. Thanks, Mally
