  1. Have been in Scottsdale,AZ since Tuesday visiting all the classic car auctions, left Russo and Steele just a few hours before 60 mile per hour winds blew away both tents covering 600+ cars. Many cars damaged, it was unreal. Barrett Jackson closed all areas except the main stage. The one year I decide to go to Scottsdale and they receive record breaking rain and wind......figures. Sorry to say no Z cars for sale........ Maybe Friday will be better, but I don't see how Russo and Steele can re-open.
  2. Started November 2008..............It's now January 2010, and still waiting. If I hear 6 more weeks one more time.........
  3. Hey guys, I got the quarter windows and frame back together with no problem, however installing it back in the car is giving me problems. How does the outside rubber attach to the frame? I know I have to use adhesive but does the U channel go up or down......or do I have the right piece. If anyone has pictures of how the outside seal goes on please post them......I'm a visual learner...:bulb: Thanks for any help, I do have Wicks book but it doesn't help (or doesn't make sense) PS.....1970 240Z
  4. Jared, It's looking great, I'm assuming it won't be at CC this weekend........:disappoin If you get tired of breaking her in give me a call, I'll be happy to spell you.............. Take care buddy, hope to run into you soon. Tell Hinkle I said hello. Randy
  5. I'm sure I will be in the minority here, but gas at even $4.00 a gallon is a bargain. I will always drive my classic cars and never let the price of gas dictate my usuage and pleasure. If driving is a passion and funds are tight I'm sure there are other ways to get your gas money......No cokes, smokes, lottery tickets, candy bars, etc. Why is it no one has complained about the price of milk or soft drinks? I know this could get political really fast, but I guess my bottom line is the price is not bothering me when compared to other issues in life or to others outside the US.
  6. Man I am so stupid.......I didn't even think about putting them on the bumper first and then setting it in..........:stupid:....:stupid:.....:stupid:.....:stupid: Thanks Mike, your picture helps a lot. DZG, thanks for your photo and help also.
  7. Ok, good I'm not missing any. Regarding the location, is each mount secured by two bolts. I'm sure I located the mounting holes but the headlight bucket not clearing had me confused. Which way are they attached? Do they "bend' away from each other or point toward each other....does that make sense. Do the bolts thread with the head of the bolt facing toward the tire or the head facing toward the engine....again I hope this makes sense.
  8. Does anyone have a photo of the attachment point of the early front bumper metal mounts. Are there 2 metal braces or 4 (I can only find 2, so I hope it's not 4). Since I removed the front bumper over a year ago, I simply can't remember and searched the site for some pictures but came up empty. I thought I had it right, but when I went to attach the headlight bucket the bumper brace was in the way.......I'm sure it's simple but wanted to seek assistance before I head back out to the shop on Monday. Thanks.
  9. Hey Guys, Now that 797 is coming to the final stages, what would you call the process that the car went through. I am reluctant to say I fully restored the car only because on a few areas we used different nuts and bolts that will never be seen. While we did take the car down to bare metal, took out every bit of rust, replaced the floors with Zedds, took everything apart for paint, took out engine, trans, etc, I did make changes like electronic ignition, a fan shroud, and non braided hoses. I guess the bottom line is this: If someone asked me this Spring about the car should I say I had it restored, or refurbished. I was just curious what others thought, as this term can mean soooooo many things. To me I restored the car, is it concours....heck no, and I'm sure there are many purist who would be quick to find errors, but what does it mean to you.
  10. Thanks Ron, I will check these numbers against mine on Monday. It's really weird, I ordered this kit 6-8 months ago and when it arrived we just set it aside for the time being. The shop finally has gotten back on my project and when we opened the box on Friday there were over 30 pieces of rubber and stripping. Only about 8 pieces were actually tagged with a number, I must have gotten the only kit that got by the inspectors and was shipped without most of it being labeled or bearing a part number.........Anyway, I think there is a lot of pieces that don't belong in there.
  11. Hey Mike, I saw that in the catalog but I have many, many pieces that are not shown on that diagram. The big pieces are easy, but this particular kit has a lot of rubber in it.
  12. The shop is ready to start putting on all the weather stripping and all rubber back on the 240, the problem is the whole set that came from precision does not list what each piece is. The doors, hatch, etc are easy to identify, put there are a lot of smaller pieces that we just don’t have a clue where they go, or if the one’s we think are right actually go there. Is there a schematic anywhere for the 240 that shows where every piece of rubber goes. Thanks for any help.

Now you know why I have a shop doing my work.......:stupid: After re-reading I see what you are saying.

These are not the greatest pictures but I purchased Charlies floor pans and rails, not really sure what you mean by only partial. Keep in mind I paid my shop to install mine, but I don't remember them saying they were not long enough. Just to help me, tell me what to look for on the rails. I want to make sure mine were done as close to factory as possible.
  15. I have #797, 90% done on restoration. The link to Mike's site has my car listed wrong, it looks like the PO added it as I did not. It is listed as 920 Gold but the car is in fact 904 White with Blue. Maybe Mike can update the info with the correct color. I figured out how to edit the spreadsheet, so it is updated with the correct information on Mike's site.
  16. Very Nice! Your shop has managed to do in 6 months what mine is still working on after 13......arrrg. Looking forward to seeing the interior process, and the finished car. Have fun.
  17. I'm using the 40D also with a 28-135mm.......but my pictures didn't look that good...... Maybe I have too much zoom which reduces the clairity? just a guess.
  18. If anyone has a series 1 steering wheel with horn button let me know. I am getting close to starting on the interior of the 70 model and need a wheel and horn button. Any condition is fine, as I was planning on refinishing it anyway. Let me know and at what price. Thanks, Randy
  19. What camera and lens did you use to shoot these, were you using a filter? The colors and detail are amazing.
  20. I actually took today off and spent 9 hours at the shop working with them......well motivating them to do some more work. I am coming up on one year into this restoration, sadly not near the quality of yours. Hopefully will be done by Christmas, but I'm not holding my breath.
  21. Jared, Your right, December 5th.....I was thinking November for some reason. I was there in October but didn't bring a car, got there late so I knew parking would be insane. The prior CC I brought the 308, and the time before that the 71 240. I've known Hinkle for years, so go spill some oil on his shiny floor. Look forward to seeing the Z Randy
  22. KNOXVILLE........I thought I was the only one here. I can't believe I haven't seen you around, are you out West. Have you been to any of the club events. European Auto Garage does a cars and coffee, you need to bring the Z in November. Look forward to seeing it in person. Randy
  23. That is odd that the higher vins carry a 1969.......My 797 car has a 1/70 date, why oh why couldn't they have pushed it through earlier.........:disappoin
  24. I don't think anyone is badgering him, but it does look suspect. Why in the world would anyone buy a car without knowing the VIN. I was actually interested but the seller would never disclose the VIN to me so I just left him alone.
  25. Good luck on your Ferrari quest, like you I had the same dream. Last May I acquired a 1985 308 GTS, I love the carb cars but really wanted a FI this time around. This is my first F-car and let me tell you it is a JOY to drive..........Why they even came with radio's is a mystery because the sound is unreal. It is a true piece of art just to look at, and the handling is so balanced. I love my 240Z, but this 308 is wonderful. Ciao.....
