240Z Auction - Barrett Jackson
I'm going to jump on the $15k wagon, great car but don't see 20's coming. Here is my latest history with my Z's. Everyone keeps talking about the "Economy", and while I agree it's been down the last few years most people buying these cars have the extra cash to acquire what they want. April 2007 Sold a 1973 240Z in refurbished condition almost identical to the BJ car coming up...........$11,900 July 2009 Sold a 1971 240Z in 3- condition, most of you saw it on Ebay. It needed floors and a few other spots corrected..........$6,600 October 2008 bought 1970 240Z #797 and is still undergoing complete restoration. Should be done this November (I hope) but will have many $$$$ invested and would never let it go for less than 25k. Did I sell my Z's too cheap? I don't think so. I made a little money on both cars, which of course has now been absorbed into 797. On a side note, what Ferrari are you looking at getting rdefabri ?

I caved in and got a 260Z
Nice find, I love the Green. Is the interior considered Butterscotch or Tan?

Need some opinions please......
I'm still confused on what I didn't disclose......The picture clearly shows the area is question. Also, if you were serious about buying the car wouldn't you want a PPI (Which I recommend) or at least to talk with me regarding any concerns or more indepth clarafication. It is a 38 year old car, it's not going to be perfect. Maybe it's just me, but I still don't see what I haven't disclosed.........:stupid:, if anything I think I've given alot of information.

Need some opinions please......
Earlier I posted about the findings from removing all the undercoating and finding this "area" that will need patching. I took the car by the shop who did a little clean up of the site and checked to make sure their was solid metal to mate to....there is. Am I wrong with assuming that if the floors and rail kit from Zedd were purchased and installed and this area patched that the car would be corrected in this area? The reason I ask is the car is for sale on Ebay and I stated in the ad that it needs new floors, and show the picture of where a patch will be needed. I do not want to mislead any potential buyer, so that being said if you received the car in this condition would you feel you have been mislead. I can still end the auction since it has a day left and do a "re-write" but how would you phrase it so that the buyer has been informed. Thanks for any input, your not going to hurt my feelings so if my ad is misleading please tell me. Thanks, Randy PS....Here's the Ebay ad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-Datsun-240Z-Beautiful-Green-and-Butterscotch_W0QQitemZ110409450979QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item19b4ea85e3&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A317

Thanks guys, I thought I would see if anyone else had a similiar issue. I did get a new compressor for fathers day so maybe I should experiment with a cutting disc........only problem, I've never done it before. Mainly just wanted to make sure it wasn't "terminal".....I was getting a little worried after I found it.

Give it to me straight....How Bad.
I found out why you never keep scrapping all the goop off your car.....because you might find this. I always new the floors were replaced by the PO, well actually the PO just welded in new floors over the old rusty one's and then undercoated the heck out of the underside. This spot however I hadn't seen till the goop was off. I went to sell the car back in May but the floors scared too many away, I planned on getting all the undercoating off and then putting in Zedd's floors which is when I found this. Whats the bottom line on this repair, how worried would you be. You can tell it was repaired awhile ago and it wasn't done very well. Whats the best fix. Thanks for any opinions. Randy

Clutch slave cylinder adjustment
Arne, Bob and Tiger, Thanks for the input, Mission Accomplished...... It just took a bit of tweeking on the slave, the pedal is still slightly spongy, but is shifting great. I really liked the feel of the pedal when the slave was adjusted more toward the rear of the car, but of course it didn't work there. Many thanks, Now somebody buy this car so I can finish #797..... Clutch slave cylinder adjustment
Bob and Arne, Thanks for the detailed information, I have to put in a few hours today but plan on working on the Z this afternoon. The Master was done a few months ago, and I should have replaced the slave at the same time (but I had an extra master in the garage), anyway after it was replaced it shifted fine, the pedal was by no means "firm" but it was ok. Last week I was driving home after about a 40 mile drive, I had noticed when hitting red lights that it was getting harder to put in first gear, when I made the turn into the neighborhood I couldn't change to any gear and limped home in 2nd. There was no fluid in the master so I filled it up and re-checked. Everytime the clutch was pressed fluid was shooting out the slave. Ordered a new one and thus my story. My 70 model is still at the shop getting the final touches.....thats another story, as we are two months behind, and of course over budget, but hey I will have a wonderful fully restored Z one day.......... I will start backing the nut toward the front of the car and re-bleed it again. Hopefully I'll have some good news before 5:00 pm. Thanks again, Randy

Clutch slave cylinder adjustment
Ok, I couldn't wait, I went back out there and made the adjustment. My pedal now feels like a wet rag, before it was very tight. I guess as you said Arne it's just going to take some tweeking. Maybe I went to far in, as I do have some play in the slave.........I'l do some more adjusting later. After all this I sure wish I had bought that 4 post lift...........:stupid:

Clutch slave cylinder adjustment
Hellooooo, anyone..........still can't get it.....Help!

Clutch slave cylinder adjustment
That may help explain some of it, the last one I did was on a 73....no adjustment was needed. Ok, Yes correct slave with adjustable nut and the spring is on. There is no play at all on the slave, I cant move it by hand at all forward or backward, it is very tight. But when my wife pushes in the clutch it goes back forth very well and the pedal is tight, no play. On the slave should the nut go more toward the dust cover or the other way. I went through my haynes book and it was no help. Any step by step instuctions would be appreaciated. Going back out to look at again, be right back. Thanks, Randy

Clutch slave cylinder adjustment
Hey guys, I just replaced the clutch slave cylinder on the 71 240, I have done this before with no problems but this time I'm stumped. I but everything back on, did proper bleeding, topped off fluids and have great pedal action and resistance.........However, when I took it for a test drive, or tried to take it for a test drive I couldn't even get up the driveway. The engine would rev and the car would barely pull. Is the slave cylinder just out of adjustment? The last one I did I just bolted back on, bleed and drove away. Is it not letting the clutch go all the way out, how do I correct it. Thanks, PS......I just tried to fiddle with it some more, I did notice that I can start the car, put it in gear, let off the clutch and the car will still idle in gear.....it just starts to stall and then it's like the clutch is still depressed. I watched the slave and it goes back and forth and travels a good distance.....I have no clue. Randy

Removing Air conditioning
Hey guys, Just a quick update, I did get the evaporator unit out, it was very easy to remove, but still couldn't get to the heater hoses very well. I removed the blower and that made everything very easy. I replaced all the old hoses and while everything was out cleaned the blower moter......you wouldn't believe how much dirt and crud was in there. Plugged the two air holes and the drain hole and everything looks good. Be sure your carpet is out if you replace your hoses as I had coolant everywhere once I took off the small connecting hose behind the heater control panel.......:stupid: Thanks for the input earlier.

Removing Air conditioning
I am going to be putting on all the new hoses and have a stupid question. I have removed all the old after market air from the engine bay and the hoses were cut back to the firewall. Regarding the unit in the passenger side footwell, would you remove it? I don't ever plan on installing air but wasn't sure that piece should come out, is it a pain to take out or pretty straight forward. I'm assuming I just need to plug the holes in the firewall. Thanks for any input. Randy

Heater Hose issue

Heater Hose issue
Was hoping to fire up the engine today when it occured to me the inlet and outlet heater hoses are not on. The old one's were trashed and I simply forgot to order new one's. Does anyone know if a straight flexable generic hose from autozone, etc will work.....any idea what size? I know the correct hoses had bends in them, but if you guys think a "regular hose" with a clamp will work let me know. Thanks,

My Z has a new Italian friend.......
Would love a Dino.......Could have bought one in 1984 for $16,500.....:stupid:, but alas no money in 84. Here's a few more pics as requested, I'll have to work on the video.

My Z has a new Italian friend.......
Jon, This one is a 1985 GTSI QV with 54k miles. All service records since new and a recent major with belts, so basically it's good to go for the next 5 years......I hope. Cost was in the mid 30's and I love the car, the sound alone is the most wonderful thing you will ever hear. Thanks Carl, Glad I could help with the picture. There arn't that many Ferrari guys here in town, but the few I've met in the surrounding area seem like good folks......Most wern't even wearing more than three gold chains......., and yes I'm kidding. Hope to get some pictures with the 240Z, I think they will look good together.
