  1. Need some advice. I thought I'd help a fellow Z owner out and install a choke cable for him on his 11/72 240z. Removed the console, ordered a nice choke cable for him and "Holly $^!#" no hole fin the firewall for the cable gromet. I didn't know they made a 240 that didn't have a choke cable. Any suggestions? I can cut a hole in the firewall but cutting on another guy's Z is iffy. Jerry Thanks for the insight, I was afraid I was going to have to drill a hole

  3. The last post will work some of the time if you have the right punch. This one works all the time, but will ruin the bushing. Use a tap for cutting threads the size a little bigger than the trans input shaft. Screw into bushing and when it bottoms out keep turning and the bushing will come out. Many times this is the only way they will come out after 40+ years of wear, but it is fast. Jerry H

Are you still having a problem getting the right level on the carbs? I have fix that has worked for years. Install a boat gas priming bulb (about $5 at car stores) in the gas line supplying the fuel pump. Pump it several times to pressurize the system. You'll have to install clear plastic lines on the drain plugs but you'll get the level and you can record and adjust accordingly. Just leave the bulb installed until you get it running right. Let me know if you have questions and how you like the suggestion.

I've got a good power train, rolling body, 78 280 z with 5-speed. I gave up on car because was too rusty. $500, $400-$300-?? and all the pieces are there-no interior. motor is healthy, been setting two years. I need to move this out. I'm in Northern Florida call 904-347-8293

I recently bought a 78 280 Z for parts and radiator was a three row radiator with shroud. it is thicker and a bit larger top and bottom than the 240 but the mounting holes match up. I assumed this was a stock radiator for a 280. Are the 280 and 240 radiators interchangeable? If they are and the capacilty is larger why doesn't everyone get a 280 radiator? Or do I have an aftermarket radiator? it looks like it was installed in 280 for a long time.

Chris I am not tearing down my 240 engine. I have spare 240 rods from another engine. I don't know what I will put this motor into for testing if I follow through with this. The reason to turn the dished 280 turbo pistons is that normal flat top 280pistons cannot be turned .105" with out getting into the ring groves. The reason for the 240 rods is because they are .105" longer than the 280 rods. So the pistons will need to be shortened .105 ", they become flat top. Also the piston will have the ring pack moved up on the piston by .105", which is similar to a racing piston configuration. This makes a 280 long rod motor. Why the effort? cheap stoke parts and should run better than a regular 280 flat topped piston motor. Added hp by improved geometery in the wrist pin rod crank angles. Also the milling of the pistons is much less than buying new pistons, about $50. Also dished pistons aren't in a huge demand,-- are they? What I'm interested in is "Is there anyone that has researched or performed this modification before? I'm thinking it is worth a try.
  8. I am currently considering rebuilding a 280 motor for my 240 Z. I have a 280 turbo motor and was seeking information on intalling 240 rods into 280 block and milling dished pistons .105 inch to make flat tops. Does any member have experience in performing this modification? DISADVANTAGES? I am planning on using the P90A head (hydraulic lifters) with stock 240 carbs and manifold. I welcome any and all comments and suggestions to how and what to do to make an inexpensive, fun, and durable motor. I would like to keep this motor all stock or original parts from exisiting model years. I also need some suggestions on a camshaft for this setup. I can't find any specs on the original turbo cam. Will this cam perform good as a street cam? or should I just count on purchasing a new cam?
  9. I picked up a wiper moter yesterday fro salvage yard and it doesn't look like the one in your picures. The one they said was from a 91 Honda Civic has four mounting places or legs. The correct wiper motor has three mounting places legs?

  11. Where did you get the color, dye, paint for your interior?
  12. After attending the superior event in Daytona last year I'm pleased to see others having some suggestions as to improve the event. The BIG problem I had in Daytona was the public could not attend the event. I know from live close to Daytona that the location was a problem. I would think one of the most important issues for all Zcar members would be public participation. Last year I could even take my friends down to see the cars without paying for registration. I hope this situation is not a norm in all the other events. Looking forward to participating in Ohio
