Jimmy, I am going thru this as we speak. My 73 had no battery tray or firewall to speak of. I cut out the rust and welded in a panel that a local metal shop made for me. I changed the battery tray to a battery box and will use a billet hold down and a Optima battery. I am just finishing up the rocker panel before i weld in the floor pans. My drivers side is not has bad. I send pics but for some reason it wont let me.
Jimmy man those are bad. The Charleston air has taken its tole on them. I am getting ready to do mine and have the passenger side already out. My firewall and battery tray are gone, so I had to rebuild that first. I decided to make a sheetmatal box and use a Optima battery and a Detroit Speed & Engineering aluminum battery hold down. I know DSE does 1st gen camaro but this part is way cool and the optima battery shouldn't leak anymore acid. I like the Zedd findings pans and will mig weld those in pretty soon.
I feel your pain. I will be faced with what color to paint my 73. I quess you will know it when see it. I am leaning towards a PPG Torch Red color that I have seen on many show cars. I like the depth of this red but like many things it's all in the prep and application. I am also looking at a 350Z blue. Since my car will not be 100% reproduction restore I don't have a problem changing the color to something I like as long as it look great. At the end of the day you have to live with it, make it something you like unless of course you are trying to keep it orginal.
Tom, Which later model has a screw in heater hose fitting on the lower rad hose connector? I am looking to change this eye soar to AN fittings and Aeroquip hose. I was ready to cut and weld a male AN fitting but would rather purchase a connector and fitting adapter if I can. New Memeber Paul
