  1. G'Day All I have been quietly chuckling away here about the amount of stuff you guys are prepared to carry in your Z cars for a modest trip. Here in Aus it is not unusual to travel 500+km (300 miles) one way for a dinner, concert, social function etc. Admittedly not in the Z car .....but!! I imagine that taking all that gear will leave little room for you or your clothes etc. I don't take as much stuff when I go on trips through the centre of Australia, across remote deserts, say for 8 or 10,000km (5 or 6,000 miles). I mean no offense, I just find it funny!! Good luck with your trip. My Z is going nowhere as it is stuck in the garage waiting for parts!! Regards, Jack
  2. Hullo Will I have the Rally Clock installed, and the Oscillator which has been in and out of the car several times as I ponder what to do about its non-function. Someone suggested to me that a smart electronics person should be able to repair, but I have no idea where to find that person. Recently I reconnected the Oscillator, it "hummed/buzzed" a little and the clock worked for several seconds. I thought the magic fairies had arrived and the Oscillator was alive, but no such luck. It will be interesting to learn if the Oscillator can be repaired. Until mine is a goer I cannot tell if the clock is OK. It is all fairly frustrating. Regards, Jack
  3. Hullo WingZrO Thanks for the update. I stumbled on the photos of the clock and oscillator that monzter posted a few days ago. I haven't heard/read the story about those apparently NOS items that Jeff has secured. I would be interested in finding out. Regards, Jack
  4. Hullo Will Zsondabrain says he will look for an antenna mast for me. If however you have one I can purchase I won't complain. I purchased a very expensive used antenna on ebay and have fitted it. It works, but is not as good a unit as mine. The steel mast has a crimp in it for example. It is also different in size compared to mine. I posted details in a recent Post, but you can see details in attached photos. The Steel section is 30cm (12inch) long when retracted. It has five sections and is 126cm (42") long when extended. The white chord has a metal section crimped to it with a split pin through it for attachment to the drive mechanism. 26th-Z I have brackets on my left hand side panel (passenger) side, one of which may have had an emergency light fitted - now empty. The other one has a red cannister which is an emergency flare I believe - it is in place!! I have attached a photo to show you the cannister. You might note the Japanese date stamp also!! I certainly would have appreciated inheriting the emergency torch, but unfortunately that didn't happen. I cannot recall if similar items were fitted to my original 1971 240Z when I bought it new. Regards, Jack
  5. Hullo Will Could you please provide us with a link to Jeff's (Monzter) site so we can access the photos? As I said I stumled onto them and couldn't find them again! It sounds as though Jeff has an interesting story. I am also located in a "Z challenged locale"! It sure is a challenge to obtain parts etc. I have noticed that prices have been increasing rapidly since I started to look also. Of course the other issue is the diminishing availability. I have a growing list of things I need - Oscillator (+ Clock???), Antenna Mast etc It is all very interesting and keeps one motivated. Regards, Jack
  6. Hullo Kats My car is a 1973 Datsun Fairlady 240Z-L, sold to an Australian lady working in Japan at the time. I have all the original Nissan documentation, including the following: Estimate, Sales Note, Purchase Order, Bill and separate Receipts for Deposit and Balance. The Vin is HS30 103407 and Engine # L24 185588. I believe the build date is 48 07 13 and the vehicle was "transferred" on 48 07 25. The vehicle was first registered on August 10, 1973. First Insurance is dated 48 8 9. Kats I know you understand the dates provided above. The 240Z is not original, in the sense that there have been many parts replaced over the 30+ years. The lady who owned the car maintained it very well and has kept complete records of all maintenance. It has travelled approximately 195k km. It maintains the main theme of the 240Z-L, with the fender mirrors, headlight protectors, 8 track Stereo and AM Radio etc. I am "refreshing" the car only, but am anxious to get it back on the road. I am waiting on important parts and upgraded seat belts (retractable) and then I will be away. Congratulations on your cars once agian. I am particularly impressed with the Z432. It is amazing. Regards, Jack
  7. Earlier today I tripped over a gallery by "monzter" which has a series of photos of the rally clock and an oscillator, which both look original/new. I did a search for "monzter" to check it/her/him out and find our where the Oscillator came from. No Luck. Can anyone find monzter and the source of new oscillators? Regard, Jack
  8. Wow!! I am amazed at the quality of the restoration of the Fairlady z-432. Kats, you must truly know what you are doing to restore the car to that level of finish. That is the level of quality I would LIKE to have, but realise I can neither afford the time or the money to achieve it. Where do all the parts come from?Kats, you say some are restored, some are new. It is impossible for me to tell the difference. The Fairlady is a great credit to your standard of work. It produces a very high benchmark for the rest of us to aim for. I realise that some of the group also aim for these high ideals. Well done to you too. A most interesting tour of your photos Kats. Regards, Jack

  10. I thought I would provide an update for those interested. I finally found someone in Australia who could help. Autoliv.com supply the Klippan brand of seat belts through dealers around the country. They recommended their "180 Under Parcel Retractor + 250 angled cable stalk". The Part Numberes are: RH front - K7210 and LH front - K7211. I have purchased the belts and have them on hand, but the drama has been getting them fitted. The retractor unit needs to be mounted horizontally on the top mount on the "roof". You will know that the existing mounting point will not permit this. The first Engineer/Fabricator took weeks to supply me with a mount that will not work. Now I am waiting for the second Engineer to fabricated a mount that will allow the retractor to sit properly. I am hoping to have that in the next few days. I am confident it will all work, its a matter of being EXTREMELY patient. When I am done I will post some photos. Regards, Jack

G'Day All I have the original dash from my 1973 car in my garage. It was replaced with another some time ago. I have been wondering how to repair the original dash. Being located in regional Australia could present a problem, but can someone enlighten me on what can be done to "renew" the old one. I could then have it ready for the inevitble replacement of the current dash. I would not have the skills that Bruce has shown in doing his dash!!! Thanks for your help in anticipation. Regards, Jack
  14. Dave, Thank you for maintaining the search. I will keep checking to see if you have had any success. A PM would be great if you have the time. Regards, Jack
  15. Zs-ondabrain. Just checking to see if you had any luck with the "Antenna Rod Kit" for the 240Z. I found a photo of such a Nissan Part/Box etc, but the photo is not clear enough to read Part No's however. I am finding the new menu a bit of a worry. I don't expect to get back to the Forums everyday and miss being able to access the older Post/Forums etc. Can anyone help?? Regards, Jack
  16. Zs-ondabrain Thanks for that. As we say "You never know your luck". I shall look forward to hearing from you. As I have said, I don't know the Part No for the replacement Mast, so it is a little hard to be precise about the Item. I know the complete Antenna I bought on eBay LOOKED the same, but has a shorter Mast and a slightly different mounting arrangement. It also has a third wire - I assume for automatic operation. Mine certainly doesn't have that extra wire. It works, so will keep me out of trouble for awhile I hope. Thank you again Regards, Jack
  17. Zs-ondabrain The attached photos should give some clarity to the description of the 1973 Antenna. I believe the unit is original, and I imagine Harada was the manufacturer. There are no visible identifying marks to indicate that though. You will see that the Mast is approx 30cm (1ft) long when retracted. Thank you for your help. I hope one day to find the replacement Mast. Unfortunately many parts for our cars are NIL stock everywhere I try. Regards Jack
  18. Zs-ondabrain, I have sent you an email with enquiries about Antenna Masts. I have had no joy trying to find a replacement Mast. Nissan did have replacement units, but I cannot find Part No for them. Anyone got any ideas? My Antenna Mast is 30cm (1ft) long when retracted and is a five section unit which extends to some 126cm (42") when fully extended. Arne, unfortunately my white cord broke just 5cm (2") from the steel section and could not be saved. I enquired about plastic welding of the cord, but that was not possible. I finally wrecked the thing by trying to work out a way to join the white cord to the steel again - not possible. I spent too much money buying a complete unit off eBay. It does work, but is not the same or as good quality as mine. I look forward to finding a replacement Mast one day soon. Hopefully. Regards, Jack

It appears you didn't receive a response from others here. It may have been an issue not understood?? by our American cousins? I do a little bit of towing - mainly with an 18ft Golf Caravan. I tow with a Turbo Diesel Landcruiser 100 series. I am probably more familiar with the term "ball weight". On the Cruiser it has a maximum of 350kg, but generally should represent 10% or more of the trailer weight. You may be surprised to know that I used to tow with my original 240Z (new 1971). I probably towed things I shouldn't have, but these days we are fortunate to have more appropriate towing equipment. P.S. I doubt if our American friends would know what a Prado was!! I am not sure they are sold in the American market - probably too small a vehicle!! I don't think the Turbo Diesel Landcruiser would have been sold in that market either, you see very few over there. Those that are there are more likely V8's. Also Lexus LX470's. I hope we don't get into trouble for drifting away from "Z" discussions? Regards, Jack
  20. Has anyone got an explanation for why there are no photos of the engine bay. There were so many photos of the exterior/interior, I was surprised that there was not one (at least) of the engine bay??? I appreciated the keen observers who have pointed out the oddities about this 240Z. It is a bit like a competition to point out how many faults/misplaced parts etc can be found in such a listing. Some of us are working through restorations/refreshments of their cars and would find some of this helpful, but also a bit threatning. For example, when work is "part" completed and there is more work to be done it may deter people from showing their cars before completion of the job?? Any thoughts?? Anyway it is all very interesting. Regards, Jack
  21. Hopefully this time I have a suitable attachment. My apologies for the mess up!! The "new" decals appear to be a very good reproduction. Well done. Regards, Jack
  22. Oops. I was not able to reduce size to suit attachment. I am stumped. Sorry. Regards, Jack
  23. I have just stumbled on this thread also. I will try and attach an image of my recently restored Master Vac. The decal was taped over to preserve it. I believe the Workshop did a reasonable job. The Vin# is HS30 103407. Regards, Jack

Firstly, my apologies to the more experienced hands/people for offering advice. I have had to remove the mast on my 1973 Fairlady 240Z recently. Firstly you need to remove the rear and left side plastic panels from inside the car. Remove the plastic retainer clips from the panels first. You will have to retrieve the centre pins if yours are original clips. Remove the rear panel first The left one will be more easily removed if you support the hatch/tailgate (I rested it on my shoulder) and remove the gas strut at the lower bolt. This will make it easier to remove the plastic trim with less risk of damage. As soon as the plastic trim is removed, reinstall the gas strut securely!! You will the see the full body of the Antenna mounted inside the rear quarter panel. Undo and remove the external hardware first, then the two wires connected for power. Then remove the two screws holding the antenna at the base. As you remove the complete unit, carefully remove the black drain tube from the grommet in the well below the motor. Once Antenna is removed then remove the cover over the mast cable and the split pin holding the cable to the drive mechanism. To remove the steel mast remove the two screws on the lower part of the mast "shroud". Hopefully you now have the unit apart. The next step is to find a replacement mast. I haven't been able to do that. I thought of plastic welding the old cable, but that cannot be done!! Good luck - especially finding the new mast!! Hope this is of some help. Regards from Australia, Jack
  25. WingZr0 I haven't heard how you went trying to source the Oscillators (and Rally Clocks?) from Japan. Can you update us on the situation? Look forward to your reply. Regards, Jack
