Hi Will, Ill be following this post and adding what info I can here in the next few days after work tonight. I could use alot of info also for I have a bunch of bags and what not scattered containing knobs, radio pieces, trimming, ect. Most my interior pieces are dissasembled from my 72 and 71 and Im hoping to get them sorted out as well. I think the PO had a broken knob syndrome because its like all the knobs and interior pieces on both cars were taken off and held in bags.
  2. Thanks Arne. All I have ever heard was, you must use the 280z mount when installing a 240z distributor onto a 280 block. Maybe thats just because people are so used to doing the ZX/w module swap, dunno.

Just some odds and ends I found I needed to pick up along the way, outside of the normal tool box setup. Suspension and brakes= a huge crescent wrench and pipe wrench. If did again Id probably also get a press, think Harbor Freight also has a smaller unit on sale once in a while fairly cheap. Hack saw. Propane torch. 10mm (flare?)wrench for the brake line nuts. Various hard to reach spots= 90 degree phillips head, also a larger phillips head for some. A rechargable fluorescent light was also nice, due to some areas underneath I couldnt see well. Electrical= tester light and a meter, a nice assortment of connectors. Odds and ends= a larger compressor and a sandblast cabinet is great, a simple carb cleaner fluid bucket parts stores sell, would of loved to have one of those smaller tumblers for cleaning up bolts and nuts along the way, rotary tool with cut off blades and various attachments for cleaning. Nice tap and die set with a few ez-outs just incase, some quality drill bits can save alot of headaches also. A HUGE hammer, like a brass one or something soft but strong <--prolly dont recommend, I just get frustrated and beat on stuff when things dont go my way . Just rambling off some stuff I found myself heading up to the store to get in between projects.
  4. I was curious, I hear people talking about the distributor mount needing to be replaced when swapping out different style/year distributors and I want to make sure this is needed in my case. I have N42 (75?) block with a N47 (77?) head, in my 71 Z. I stripped all the fuel injection stuff off to use this setup with my SUs. Now my stock distributor does have a slightly different mount/plate then what was on the fuel injected distributor, but it appears when mocking it up that it fits fine. And when I measure the clearances in shaft and all measurements I get the same results from the 2. Only difference I see is the location of the advance screws and their positioning, but it dont appear to pose any threat to adjusting. Also, even if I try to swap the mount/plate from the later distributor onto the 240Z distributor the 8mm adjusting bolt does not match up for install. Does the need for swapping out the mount/plate only refer to using the ZX distributor and not the early 280z distributor? Guess Im having a hard time thinking this thru as you can tell, mostly due to things are not lining up correctly as far as all my manuals are concerned. I think when this motor was set-up the distributor/oil pump shaft was just inserted any old way and the rotor/plug connections were compensated for.
  5. Thats got to hurt stating 143k is too high for a house in Colorado, when the same type of house in California is mid 400s or more! Not sure about the house pricing up in the Garlic Capital of the World, but I visited my sister out in Buena Park few months back and just could not believe how high the prices have become out there, its amazing people could afford to eat after paying mortgage! I moved to Denver about 10 years ago from Los Angeles and I enjoy it. It hurts to see LA is a whopping 77 degrees in winter while we are dealing with this snow madness but you take the good with the bad. The Springs is a beautiful place to live, just try to limit your Cripple Creek trips down to every few months! I wish you the best of luck with your move.
  6. Hello, I wanted to introduce myself and my current Z project. My name is Wade and I live in Denver. My current Z project is a 1971 that Ive been working on for almost a year now, as time and finances permit. Ive had the honor of meeting a few folks around the Denver area due my Z and they have turned me on to this site. Thanks Darrel and Steve! I really like the laid back attitude many folks show here and how helpfull they are to everyone. Hopefully as my knowledge of these cars grows I can pass some of that info on to others as well. Youll definately see me snooping around the early Z threads looking for advice on different stuff, sometimes I pop the garage open and scratch my head and wonder where to go next :paranoid: This is my 3rd Z, went from a 73 to a 72 and now I have a 71. Ive never really dug so deep into a car where I have touched practically every bolt tho, so I do get overwhelmed! Merry Christmas to all and thanks for reading, take care.
