Great pics!
I’ve always lusted:love: after the Toyota 2000GT convertible that was featured in the Bond film You Only Live Twice. If I’m not mistaken, this looks like a body kit on top of a Mazda Miata. Am I mistaken? If not, does anyone have information on this kit?

Look under your hood cowl - yikes
Growing up, my Dad was into restoring 1964 1/2-1968 Mustangs. Every time he’d go out to look at one for sale, he would bring and empty coffee can, fill it with water and pour it into the cowl vents. There were many times when you would open the door to reveal water soaked front carpets. I recall, this was a very expensive repair involving removal of the front fender and cutting into the cowl from the side to perform the rust repair. In fact, this problem was so common enough that you could purchase a Plexiglas cover you would attach to the cowl and screw into place to stop water from getting in.

eBay madness again
Has anyone thought about going this route? http://www.cvvacuumplaters.com/exterior_parts.htm I wonder how their prices are. It would be nice to have them replate the tail light trim and chrome AC vents.

Why the die off in value of the Z?
AZ-240z, Thanks for pointing this out. That car has been on the selling block for a few years now.

Why the die off in value of the Z?
I wish I knew what became of this gem: http://home.comcast.net/~datsun-240z/ Also, if Burt Diamond’s low mileage ’71 ever sold and for how much. Knowing the selling price of both cars would be a good barometer on what market is willing to pay for prime specimens.

04/72 240z A/C
I recently converted from R12 to Freeze12 on my 1993 Toyota MR2. I bought a kit on ebay and paid $40.00 for a shop to purge the remaining R12 and replace it with Freeze12. So far no complaints.

OT-Carl Stahlnecker Died June 16th
Wow...this is a real shocker! He knew his stuff and wasn't one to back down from a good argument. I respected that a lot. Peace be with you, Carl.

Question on originality
This might help solve the puzzle of a 1970 that I flew to New York to inspect in 2002. The car was European exotic car dealership in upstate NY. It was repainted the original butterscotch color, and with the exception of clear headlight covers and a set of Panasport wheels, looked to be original on the exterior. When the salesperson opened the hood I noticed the light blue air cleaner. It looked to be taken off a later model car, but it didn’t have a flapper or provision for the aluminum heat collector that connects near the exhaust manifold. It might have been a year correct dealer replacement after all.

Dash Repair
You can thry this: http://www.shop.com/op/~Deluxe_Dash_Repair_Kit-prod-17119407-24045541?sourceid=298 But IMO you are better off just getting a dash cap to protect what's left. Or... Just have the whole thing redone and not worry for another +20 years. http://www.dashboardrestorations.com.au/

Early 240Z wheels and hubcaps
If you can indeed get them for a good price buy them. They will most likely not go down in value, and could be used to trade for some much needed parts from another Z car nut in the future. My 2 cents.

1973 240Z need advice
I took a look at the pictures. To be frank, you have a little more than a few “rust spots†to repair. :surprised Based on how much structural damage is visually evident just at the front of the vehicle, replacing with metal is a must, and the only way to do it right. Take a look at these videos to give you some idea how much rust can be hidden in Z, and what's involved in repairing it correctly. Good soundtrack too. http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/wmv/ As for media blasting, use the search feature on this website. You will find a wealth of information on the subject. Part of the media blasting process is to remove all rust, which should be the first thing you do before starting a repair.

Glove box
This guy made a replacement glove box out of a steel panel off the back of a washing machine! Now, that's smart recycling  http://www.geocities.com/gramage2000/
