Time for a new rear muffler!
-
just curious
Back in 1981, my first car at 15 y/o was a 73 with the same color combo, but with an automatic and black vinyl top. Very groovy! It was a Texas car that was shipped to Hawaii by a G.I. It had an ARA AC install with the switch installed right below the trip meter reset knob. Man, I wish I still had that car!

What is the correct color for the rear tailight panel
Here's a picture of 4 hubcaps I restored for my 72 using WP 102 and a matte clear to tone down the sheen. I also did my grille as well.

Help Needed Identifying Mileage!
I would look for little details such as if the original stickers in the engine compartment such as on the radiator, air cleaner and front radiator support are still there and what shape they are in. Also, if the original style hose clamps and braided cloth radiator and heater hoses are present. In the interior, I would look to see if it still has all the fabric labels on the seat belts. These items would likely to be gone, seriously deteriorated or replaced on a high-mileage car.

Modified 9/70 for sale
About a month ago, I was looking for a BMW for the wife. I came across one on Yahoo! automobile classifieds. What caught my attention was the fact that the car was selling for about 1/3 than what it should Blue Book for. As luck would have it, I saw the same car on eBay and smelled a rat on the Yahoo! post. Here’s what transpired: Reply to my Inquiry from the Scam Artist :stupid: XXXX@aol.com wrote: Dear Sir, The car it is available and is in excellent condition, no accidents .The price is $8000 US and it includes shipping costs. But you must know that the car is located in London, United Kingdom. This is my personal car and I have posted the ad on this web site because I want to sell in US . The car has US title and is clean so you will not have any problems when you will register it. The car has passed the emissions test and comes with all the documents you need to register. The total shipping cost from London to your location is $2000 US and I will need these money in advance to take care of the fees. As soon as the car arrives, you will test the car and if it does not match 100% your expectations, you will return it in maximum 15 days from the arrival date. In this case I will send you the full amount back, upon receipt of the car. Time is an important issue for me, but obviously security and buyer satisfaction are of greater importance. I sincerely hope to do this transaction with you. My Response to the Scam Artist Hello XXXX@aol.com, I am very interested in the car! However, I am somewhat confused. I found the same vehicle (based on VIN) for sale in Los Angeles, and by your account for sale in the UK. Furthermore, there is a significant price difference between the two ads. I am a trusting person by nature, but something doesn't seem quite right. I have courtesy copied the individual selling the car on ebay. Perhaps you would like to discuss the true ownership of the vehicle. Cordially, Ed Response Back from the True Owner Ed The person posting this ad on Yahoo has stolen the picture and description from my eBay ad and is obviously a fraud. I can provide a copy of the title showing that I am the owner of the car. Ask the other seller if he can do the same. I expect if you ask, that you will not get a response. Also the price is extremely suspicious. This would be a steal (literally) if you could get it for this price. Thanks for letting me know. I will contact the necessary authorities to apprehend this thief. Regards Paul Funny...I never got a reply back from the Scammer

If you can't find any local, I can let you have one of these for $5.00 (that's for shipping and my time). Email me at datsunzguy@yahoo.com if you are interested. BTW - I'm in Lompoc, about an hour North of Santa Barbara.

Nice Original 1972
There’s a very nice unrestored ‘72 for sale in Virginia. The price is a little steep for me, but I’m impressed by its condition, originality and documentation. ***CLICK HERE*** Less than 32K miles and a much coveted braided top radiator hose to boot!

Restored Hubcap
Hi Zhead, Thanks! This is as near a stock color I could find using off-the-shelf paint. Here is what I used: Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating – HWP102 Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Multi-Purpose Paint – 1902 Matte Clear

Restored Hubcap
It took the better part of an hour to properly mask the hubcap. I used ¼†wide masking tape I purchased at NAPA for the round inner ring. Its width is a perfect match. On the rest I used 7-day clean release tape. All the trimming was done with a sharp X-Acto knife. The trick is to take your time and have a steady hand.

Color for grill/rear tail light panel
Hey Ben (v12horse), The combination of paint I used is a very close match to the original steel grey or anthracite finish. Here’s another photo, but this time it’s of the rear panel. To my knowledge the rear panel on my 72 has never been re-painted. As such, the grey is much darker and better preserved where it was covered by the license plate. I painted my license plate light using the paints in my earlier post/photo and mounted it back on the panel for comparison. It’s kind of hard to tell given the lighting in my garage and flash on my camera, but the license plate light matches very closely to the preserved portion of my rear panel. At least that what my eyes are telling me. :classic:

Color for grill/rear tail light panel
I have had pretty good success (IMHO) approximating the original shade and finish using the following: Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating – HWP102 Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Multi-Purpose Paint – 1902 Matte Clear
