I’ve always lusted:love: after the Toyota 2000GT convertible that was featured in the Bond film You Only Live Twice. If I’m not mistaken, this looks like a body kit on top of a Mazda Miata. Am I mistaken? If not, does anyone have information on this kit?

  3. Growing up, my Dad was into restoring 1964 1/2-1968 Mustangs. Every time he’d go out to look at one for sale, he would bring and empty coffee can, fill it with water and pour it into the cowl vents. There were many times when you would open the door to reveal water soaked front carpets. I recall, this was a very expensive repair involving removal of the front fender and cutting into the cowl from the side to perform the rust repair. In fact, this problem was so common enough that you could purchase a Plexiglas cover you would attach to the cowl and screw into place to stop water from getting in.

Has anyone thought about going this route? http://www.cvvacuumplaters.com/exterior_parts.htm I wonder how their prices are. It would be nice to have them replate the tail light trim and chrome AC vents.
  6. AZ-240z, Thanks for pointing this out. That car has been on the selling block for a few years now.
  7. I wish I knew what became of this gem: http://home.comcast.net/~datsun-240z/ Also, if Burt Diamond’s low mileage ’71 ever sold and for how much. Knowing the selling price of both cars would be a good barometer on what market is willing to pay for prime specimens.

If you do a search on "Dashboard Restorations " you will find a bunch of threads on this very subject along with dash cap opinions too.
  9. Kent, You may want to contact this club. http://www.geocities.com/eizcc/ They may have some members that live in the center of the state that can help you.

I recently converted from R12 to Freeze12 on my 1993 Toyota MR2. I bought a kit on ebay and paid $40.00 for a shop to purge the remaining R12 and replace it with Freeze12. So far no complaints.
  11. Wow...this is a real shocker! He knew his stuff and wasn't one to back down from a good argument. I respected that a lot. Peace be with you, Carl.
  12. The eBay's Z VIN HLS30-59027, my car's VIN is HLS30-59593...we both have vertical rear defroster lines on our hatch glass
  13. This might help solve the puzzle of a 1970 that I flew to New York to inspect in 2002. The car was European exotic car dealership in upstate NY. It was repainted the original butterscotch color, and with the exception of clear headlight covers and a set of Panasport wheels, looked to be original on the exterior. When the salesperson opened the hood I noticed the light blue air cleaner. It looked to be taken off a later model car, but it didn’t have a flapper or provision for the aluminum heat collector that connects near the exhaust manifold. It might have been a year correct dealer replacement after all.

You can thry this: http://www.shop.com/op/~Deluxe_Dash_Repair_Kit-prod-17119407-24045541?sourceid=298 But IMO you are better off just getting a dash cap to protect what's left. Or... Just have the whole thing redone and not worry for another +20 years. http://www.dashboardrestorations.com.au/

What class are you competing in? If in doubt, look it up. http://www.zcca.org/downloads/JudgingRules_rev2005.pdf
  19. If you can indeed get them for a good price buy them. They will most likely not go down in value, and could be used to trade for some much needed parts from another Z car nut in the future. My 2 cents.

I took a look at the pictures. To be frank, you have a little more than a few “rust spots” to repair. :surprised Based on how much structural damage is visually evident just at the front of the vehicle, replacing with metal is a must, and the only way to do it right. Take a look at these videos to give you some idea how much rust can be hidden in Z, and what's involved in repairing it correctly. Good soundtrack too. http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/wmv/ As for media blasting, use the search feature on this website. You will find a wealth of information on the subject. Part of the media blasting process is to remove all rust, which should be the first thing you do before starting a repair.

This guy made a replacement glove box out of a steel panel off the back of a washing machine! Now, that's smart recycling  http://www.geocities.com/gramage2000/
  22. As xxjoeyxxeb mentioned, Santa Inez has the Chumash Casino. Even if you don’t gamble, and you like seafood, the buffet every Wednesday is a good deal. It’s the only place I know of in the area where you can feed yourself until you burst eating lobster tails! The trick is to get there about 30 minutes before the buffet opens or hit it around 4:30 PM after the first wave of people get their fill, and before the after work crowd hits. Oh yeah, the casino is just a few minutes from Solvang too. http://www.chumashcasino.com/dining/buffet/seafoodbuffet.cfm Speaking of food, Chef Karim’s Moroccan Restaurant, Downtown, is an awesome dining experience! http://chefkarim.com/ Another nearby attraction of sorts is Vandenberg Air Force Base. I work there during the week, and I believe they still have public tours of the base and museum on a couple of Wednesdays a month. http://www.vandenberg.af.mil/ If you want to venture further north, there is always http://www.hearstcastle.com/ and catching the San Luis Obispo Farmers’ Market on Thursday nights http://www.downtownslo.com/farmers.html

Intense sandblasting with the wrong media can result in excessive friction/heat, which will warp metal if you are not careful. I can see where too much may effect the metal's properties.
