Why would you want a 280?
I have mixed emotions. The purest would say that the 240 was the only real Z car. I might agree however the 240,260, and 280 have similar heritage in that the look of the car although tweaked remained very similar. It's when Nissan decided to introduce the 4 seat 2 Plus 2 version is when I think the heritage of the car changed and it was all down hill from there. This is a Company that took an absolutely beautiful sports, car a very functional sports car and eventually turned it into a luxury car with no real heritage. I do believe they have done a nice job with the 350z although it is a different car dramatically and the fact that it wasn't suppose to look like it does. This car as you all probably know was derived from the Infiniti Q45 coupe.

240 on Seattle Craig's List
Looks like it's seen better days. When yiu see the rust on the rocker panels then there's a whole lot of rust you can't see until you get it. Guess it depends on what you want to do with it.

Jute horsehair underpadding question
Thank you Code3Z Much appreciated. I think you may have misunderstood me. I was asking if there is underpadding on the floor inside the storage areas behind the seats. You know those storage doors open up where the jack and the tool bag is. Not in the series 2 car where the storage areas are in the hatch area. Thanks again and let me know if you know please. All the best. McKrack

Jute horsehair underpadding question
I would apprecite wholeheartedly if someone can tell me if the series one Datsun 240z contained jute horsehair underpadding on the small area of flooring in the storage areas behing the seats. I know that originally an area under the seats was absent of carpeting and only had underpadding and that the area described above had no carpeting. But did it have underpadding? Thank you so much for the help. McKrack

Which tires to get?
You are correct Arne and I think mine were 205 60s or 65s and they rubbed. The worst sound is when you back up to make a three point turn out of your driveway and all of a sudden you here this sound and at first you don't know whet the hell it is. As for putting different tires on the front then the back. Well I guess it depends on what look you want. I don't like it but then again I am a purist. McKrack

Which tires to get?

Which tires to get?
71 240z manufactured 7/70 They rubbed everytime I made a three point turn
-
Which tires to get?
70 manufactured sold as 71 and I ubought 205's and everytime I turned the wheel all the way they rubbed on the fender so I don't recommend them. Unless of course when you make three point turns etc.you do it a couple of times.

Which tires to get?
Originally I got 205 tires and they rubbed. McKrack

Which tires to get?
Be careful they don't rub the inner fender wheel openings. BVecause they may on turning the steering wheel all the way with 205s.

Closing soon '70Z in Portland OR
Don't think it made it's reserve but it was a nice car. There is something to be said about an automatic if you have more then one 240z and you want an automatic for a daily driver. Lets say you drive the car every day especially if you are in and out of traffic. It is sometimes nice to be able to sit back and not shift. You still have one of the most beautiful sports cars ever built.

Two questions please
I will Ron but I don't have much confidence in it. I was being realistic when I said that I may have to have the carpets re-made to specs with the correct loop useing the patterns from the original. The carpets alone cost me a lot of money and I got the original Jute Horsehair with them. I lucked out a compltete set of underpadding.

Two questions please
Thanks Will. I ordered some stuff from the internet. It comes in 32 ounce containers premixed. I also ordered the soft bristle brush and the spray bottle. I will set the carpets on the dinette table. After I have thoroughly cleaned the carpets,I will then spray the carpets with the crap and then work it in with the brush. I will then do it over again. Take a shower because it will probably be all over my face , hands, hair whatever is left of that. Once I have completed it and let it dry I will probably head over to the Auto Upholstery shop and let them make new carpets for me with the original patterns I just completely screwed up LOLOL. That's my MO. McKrack

Two questions please
Hey Guys thanks. Do you know where Carl Becks thread can be found. As for the KYBs are they all gas struts. I thought the non adjustable ones aren't. I asked at least three people involved in helping me restore this car and they all told me don't do it. That's not the correct fix. I have to find some pics of original cars and compare. Thanks again and if you have anyhting to add I'm all ears.

Two questions please
Hi Everyone, I have two questions if you would be kind enough to help me out. The first is this; My car is almost done and I noticed today that after having what is considered the exact replacements for OEM springs and the non adjustable KYB struts, and BTW this is for a series one car, that the car seems to be sitting somewhat high. I called the supplier of the springs and this is what he told me and I paraphrase; If I were to turn the clock back and visit a Datsun Showroom and look at the the ride height of a new 1970 240z they actually did sit somewhat high. It's not until the car was driven a while that the springs settled in and the car lowered a little on it's own. He also said that most 240z cars you see now that have not had their springs and struts changed have sunk somewhat after so many years and mine will too. Well I don't think I will be alive when that happens LOLOLOL. Now suffice it to say the bumpers, seats and spare tire are not yet in and the fuel tank is low on fuel however do you folks have an opinion on this. The tires are new 185 70 14 Toyos but I was told even if I went to 190's it wouldn't fill in the wheel arches. Right now you can see alot of the springs in the rear and the wiring a little from the back of the headlight housings. I know you can't buy new springs from the dealer anymore but these are considered NOS replacement springs. I bought another set that weren't and the car after I installed them looked like it wanted to jetison off to mars. Next question I have is this; Has anyone ever redyed their black carpets utilizing the appropriate carpet dye and not that paint you get from Pep Boys or Autobarn? Thanks for the help and I anxiously await your opinions. McKrack.

Never seen a ZX like this one!
The rarest and most desirable. Well that's a matter of opinion but I have to tell you if you can find a 260 ZX then yes it is the rarest and most desirable. It's like a man getting pregnant. McKrack

Heres my project *56k*
" this is what livin, lovin " Was that not part of a Lead Zeppelin song from years gone by. I will agree that cars whatever they are will provide the owner with a lot of enjoyment and also take your mind off other things. The car in question is a repaint. Will you be paint the car back to original or are you refreshing it for a daily driver Red Dog? McKrack

need advice
I think at the time it was in the high $200 range maybe low $300s. It's well worth it and some radiator shop will cost the same. As a matter of fact Moyers has done so many Z car fuel tanks that I think they have a core program. You send them yours and they send the same exact tank back to you completely done and ready to go. Some more advice. When taking the tank down and putting it back up be careful you don't press too hard when strapping it up or your completely refinished tank can dent with the palm of your hand. Been there done that. Good luck.

need advice
Yes I used Moyer Fuel Tank Renue as well. Sent the tank to them and I had it back quite quickly. Just make sure you tell them the finish you want on the outside of the tank. If I am not mistaken your tank takes a satin black finish. I could be wrong. If you don't tell them they will undercoat it. They did a very nice job on the tank. McKrack

How to ruin a good car...
Arne, That is too funny. That car looks a cross between Jonny Holmes Phallus and the Batmobile.I have seen a lot of bastardized cars and Z cars as well but I think that car is in the running for one of the most heinous objects on 4 wheels I have ever seen. That car makes the one with the flames a 1st edition collectors specimen Gold Medallion. I will tell you what that person was thinking. When he was putting the last coat of paint on he was thinking when he could get to the pharmacy and refill his prescription because the last dose was wearing of. No offense to folks who need a little something to get them through the day. I have often thought that I should get a prescription for some of that stuff. But seriously it's like me looking in the mirror and seeing Beckham or any one of those other pretty boys that I am not.

240Z Registered for Barrett-Jackson 2007
I didn't read all the posts I am shocked that the car went for that kind of money. Just not a good example of a Z car. However after thinking about it 240z cars are unique specimens and it is quite possible that someone just wanted a Z car and is not in the Z community loop. Maybe the buyer bought it up with the interest in getting it back to stock and original condition If that's the case I suppose it wouldn't take as much funds then to restore a car from scratch. Although from one of the posts where it was mentioned that the undercarriage looked like it was sprayed with black paint I would say that is far from what one does when Restoring a Z car's undercarriage or any undercarriage for that matter. Well just goes to show you how wrong I can be. Isn't the first and won't be the last.

240Z Registered for Barrett-Jackson 2007
Well, where do I start. First off the rear panel is the wrong color . Wait a minute that's another thread. My opinion: That's one awful looking car. I don't think that car will fetch $8000.00. I would put money on that. Maybe $5500.00 tops. That's my guess. We will see. Now if the interior was also customized at the same level as the exterior it might be worth just a little more. The steering wheel is ridiculous, the car has a half dash cap. The interior doesn't even look detailed and those holes in the door panels for speakers are really choice. Of course the shift knob maybe should sort of match that thing called a sterring wheel. There is probably a lot more that we can't see. The flames, maybe on a Big Dog or Texas Chopper but on a Z it just doesn't work. No disrespect intented. Just my thoughts on this car. Auctions like Barrett Jackson are venues I think for original stock cars of any kind if the seller wants the big bucks. I have watched almost all the auctions and have been to a few and looking at that thing the owner will be dissapointed. I have seen custom cars go for a lot of money a few times but they are American Muscle cars that are highly cutomized specimens. Almost one of a kind vehicles. Now the way BJ works is they get if I am not mistaken 8% from the seller, 8% from the buyer, and the seller covers the transportaion to and from the auction. Most cars have no reserve unless they are a one of a kind or a five of a kind, that sort of car. I hope this person knows this which I am sure she does because she may get stung and end up letting that vehicle go for a lot less then her expected price.
