#305 on Ebay
I spoke with some one recently that has seen #51. I was told the car is an absolute mess and missing most of the parts for the car. Floor pans, rockers, dog legs and such all gone. This is why he has not posted pictures. Based upon this I must assume he is trying to sell the VIN and not the car. If the VIN is very important to some one the car can always be reconstructed. If the buyer has the money the seller wants and doesn't care I say go for it. Life is short and it's not always so necessary to get a deal if you can afford it.

Opinions on this 1973 240z?
No it's mess. Unless you just want to drive it in to the ground. Has nothing to do with the money it's the product. It's just an awful specimen. I would almost rather buy a shell then a car like that. Sorry if I disapointed you.

No I didn't change my mind. I mean that if the seller is not reaonable enough to show the car in pics then it probably wouldn't sell. ( on Ebay ) However if the car is just OK I think it may be worth the money.

No one is going to buy 305 or 51 at the number the seller wants. Especially if 51 isn't pictured. How does anyone get away with even thinking that some one is going to bid on a car they can't see in pictures. Strange world we live in.

I just read Alan's post above and I thank him for the information. He is obviously more educated with respect to these cars then I am. Having said this I wish he could be just a tad less obnoxious about it. Can't wait to meet you someday Al. Now I have to go my wife is calling me to have breakfast she's making liver.

Thank you for clarifying that for me I appreciate it. I am sincere and I am not being sarcastic. You know these cars have sentimental attachment to people and I guess if one of my first cars was a Yugo then I would be probably as passionate. Enjoy the week.

No Stephen not at all. I don't think opinionating that some one is being arrogant means that I am being disrespectful to anyone. I am stating my opinion but I am not doing it in a disrespectful way I am just pointing out my perception of the attitude not the content. I hope after you have considered my response that you might agree. As for the disrespect I think that specifically Mr. T or Alan or Alan T was being disrespectful to Mr. Beck. Anyhow let's get back to the content of the thread. 305 and 51 are being sold through an owner who lives in the United States of America. The first 500 cars manufactured by Nissan known as the Datsun 240z in my opinion are the most valuable Z cars in the World today. Now if there were Z Cars manufactured prior to the first 500 and they ended up somewhere other then the U.S. then I would appreciate someone letting me know. If not whether they ended up in Australia or Tahiti they are still again in my opinion the most valuable Z cars of any series on planet Earth. Wheather they are a mess or completely restored.

Nothing special about the 350z?
Well that's interesting because as much as I liked the 350z my 2006 Porsche Carrera S is three times the car the Z was. This is a phenominal car. So I must disagree withe comment above. But it's 3 times more expensive as well.

Nothing special about the 350z?
Hello, I am the proud owner of a series one Dastun 240z that I completed with a lot of help a full retoration on and finished with it after more then 1 year a few months ago. I also recently sold my 2005 Anniversary Edition 350z. I thought it was a wonderful car for the money. It performed well, it was mechanically flawless and it's looks grew on me every day I owned it. I reall y like the car and would consider getting another one. I sold it to a friend of mine because I needed some room and I own too many cars. I tfelt great, it was comfortable, it cornered and handled well, it sounded great and it had a fair amount of power. I think they did a nice job on it. Would have I preferred that Nissan produced the original car they were thinking of doing before the President of Nissan nixed it and decided to chop up the Q45 coupe, yes I would have liked that design, but on Balnce I think the 350z is a very good car.

One more thing with all due respect. If I am correct it seems that His or Her Majesty or what ever it is seems to be siding with Alan from the UK. " Thank you Alan " thank you for what Majesty for being arrogant. I rest my case now I will go to my room. I.m so glad I added my opinion regarding 51. It really brought the best out in me hahahaha.

BTW I still think 51 is worth 10 grand if some one wants a 69 car to restore and I still think 69 cars if you are in to Z cars here in the U.S. are the most valuable to own.

Well Well Well, we seem to have a bit of a disagreement in some aspects of this thread. I disagreed with Mr. Beck a bit but I do have the utmost respect for Carl and his knowledge and most of the time learn something from him each and every time he responds and posts things. I read with a trace of caution what this fellow her Majesty says foir he has eluded on more then one occasion that I am not who I say I am and became quite disrespectful doing so. However who in the world is this Alan T person. I can't hold back that's a professional version of arrogance mate. Calm down it's only a car. Whew!

Oh 4 shops please name them. Thank you They could have contracted with 10 shops. None of them did the correct job and that is why the program went under. That and because Nissan didn't make any money on the cars and ran out of parts. The shops didn't make any money either. The only thing it did do is get some folks interested in the 350 Z car they were developing. Anyway I stand by my thought process on this one. I think the most valuable ones will be the correct 69 restored cars not a series one or two car restored by some outside shop with the wrong seats and wrong carpets etc. with a trumped up Nissan certificate of authenticity when in reality the cars didn't even get to see the front door of the Nissan Plant.

I completely disagree with Mr. Becks opinion about the Program Cars being the market leaders. I have seen some pictures of some of those cars and most of them have flaws. As a matter of fact Nissan should never have contracted the 3 shops to do the cars at all.

I suppose this is more fact then debate. Regarding a once in a lifetime opportunity it does depend on the buyer of course. Eventually if we live long enough and the vehicles live long enough there will be another 69 car available. Restoring these series one cars especially 69 cars is possible and if you work hard and you are patient you can find almost everything to fulfill the restoration. Yes there are some parts that are almost impossible to find but with some inginuity it can be done. I guess it depends on our indivudual perceptions on what a restored car is. How many times have we seen ads for cars that state restored and they are so far from the true sense of the word that it's absurd. I still believe that a VIN of 51 is worth $10,000.00. It's just a piece of valuable history, again if you believe that the Datsun 240z was what many of us think it was and still is. You know in this world we live in today it's truly a matter of supply and demand and the supply is dwindling. One last comment and one last question please. The comment is that I think the purchase of the car is a one shot deal and there is probably not a 69 car out there for sale at this time that doesn't need restoration and a pretty significant one. The question is how much do you think we would have to pay for a completely restored 1969 Datsun 240z with a VIN of 51. I say these days maybe close to $50,000 or more. That is a completely dead nuts beautifully restored car. Please don't compare it to one of the Vintage Z program cars( which were not very good examples of what might be considered a meticulous rendering of a restored car ) or any other completely restored car above the manufacture date of 1969.

This fellow is Charlie Devers selling the cars. He is well known in the Z community. He has judged cars I have heard at Z Conventions. This is my opinion and you may disagree with me. First I believe that 51 is more valuable then 305. Would you agree? Secondly I think the car unless it is beyond restoration is worth $10,000.00. The reason I say this is because to properly restore these cars to original condition it's going to cost with the car at least $40,000.00 and that is with the cost of the car. I do not agree with Mr. Beck with all due respect. These cars are becoming very very hard to find. In the end I guess it has a lot to do wiith how badly do you want a 69 car. They are becoming once in a lifetime opportunities and again if yoiu have an undying passion for 240z cars then you can get much better then a 69. OK I am waiting for the onslought of disagreements, so let me have it. I can take it.

braided hoses?
some of the braided hoses are still available like the evaporator hoses for the back of the car and the one you bought from Courtesy. However I was thinking more of the radiator hoses upper and lower. Try that fellow Karl at the link I posted lonetree and good luck. He's a solid guy and again gets very hard to find parts from Japan. He got me a door glass brand new and it was at my house from Japan in 2 weeks.

Filler Cap...
I do not believe it is the filler neck. I believe it's the vent hoses. If you are not showing your car Becks idea of reducing 5 to 1 is excellent. This is a knowledgable man. The rubber gasket around the cap is not the problem. It is not as danmgerous as one of the above mentioned as long as you don't smoke oin the car. If it were that dangerous half of the old Z cars on the road today that smell of fumes from the back of the car would have exploded. Do not be frightened by that comment but do get it fixed if the odor bothers you.

braided hoses?
There are no more sources foir these parts in America. I do know somewhere you may be a ble to get them I actually have bought some on Ebay but there is a gentleman that has a web site that gets many of his Parts form Japan. I have bought some rare parts from him. He was a life saver. Try this http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-240Z-parts.html

1972 Low Mileage 240z on Ebay
Hahahahaha That's too funny. But you know a car like this can have low mileage and still after 30 or more years need a paint job. Especially a car that sits around rusting a bit. These cars as you know didn't take much to rust even if they weren't driven. I would like to give it the benefit of the doubt. Of course I would ask them to provide some sort of proof. All in all it's a very nice car and probably is worth the money or more. It's a find. But I have learned my lesson in car buying and there would be no way I would buy it with out seeing it.
