Hello all. This may be a stupid question but someone said once that there are no stupid questions just stupid people or stupid answers. I forget how the last part goes but here goes with the question. The fuel door knob on the Datsun 240z at least the 69, 70, 71 and maybe 72 has the edge or what I call protuberance in the middle of the knob. In the latched position where the fuel door cannot open without turning, does that edge face in the north/south position or the east west position. The reason I ask is that I bought one of those original series one ads and I am going to frame it and hang it up. The one with the blonde in the passenger seat that you may be familiar with. Anyway it appears that in the ad the knob's edge which is in the middle of knob itself in the latched position is in the north/south position. Now I always assumed because of the lines of the car that the edge on the knob should be east/west. I am trying to get my car right down to the smallest detail if possible. The fuel door opening on my car for some reason is missing the opening for the knobs hardware to key in to. I don't know why. Maybe the last owner did something to the opening, filled it in or whatever. So I want to set the knob in the correct position. Now this may be one of the most bizarre questions you've read but if you know the answer I would appreciate the help. :nervous: McKrack

All of them except for Datsun
  4. Good luck with the car Mike. BTW where did you get the series one speedo and why will it take so long to get the car.
  5. Enigma Did you happen to read the clarification about how I knew of this car? McKrack
  6. Hi, After taking a good look at the pictures of the car I noticed it has a series two speedometer in it. Just thought I would mention it. McKrack
  7. I believe that is the problem with the front overider bar not the rear. The front bar is shorter for the 72 ans 73 car.
  8. Everyone has a right to their opinion. The car is not my cup of tea however it may be someone elses. I looked at the pictures of the car and certainly it's not a car I would consider bidding on. What confuses me though is the fact that this car is an award winner but the interior of the vehicle is not in very good condition. The exterior well cars look better usually on a computer so I would have to reserve the right to critique it. The hood painting I must say is odd but I am sure some one would like it.
  9. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Those are the oddest things I have seen in a long time. You have to admit someone could start a pretty good rumor about those hubcaps. McKrack
  10. My car has air. When I bought it it was in the car. Pretty much the system from the dealers in 1970. Google Z Car Source in Arizona and speak with Jeff Gordon. He has about 500 cars and will probably be able to hook you up with a nice complete original system. McKrack
  11. I think maybe some of you guys may have misunderstood me. So here goes. When I said I know of this car I haven't seen it live. I saw the ad and have spoken with people off line about the car. Just by looking at the car I don't think anyone would disagree that this car is not restored. Maybe refreshed. Some folks even if they are in to cars sometimes mix these two words up some. In my opinion restored is just that. Bringing the car back to original condition or damn close to it.There are a ton of things I see that are wrong with the car. I am almost done with an almost complete restoration of my car and I have to tell you that I may be up at the $55,000 range that's with the cost of the car. It's a big project to get it right as you guys know. Mine wasn't even a rotisserie, media blasted, or ground up. So you could actually argue that my car wasn't truly restored either. Every little thing if you try to be a purist. Regarding the balance tube issue and the emissions. My car originally came from Canada but some time some one put emmisions on the car but it wasn't right and there were some things I was having difficulty getting so I got a european balance tube and converted it back. As Bre240z said it looks like the emmisions were just taken off that car and there is no european balance tube and after a second look I believe he is correct. I was wrong about that one. But I don't think I was wrong about the fact that if the seller is advertising the car as a restored vehicle he is really stretching that, oh about a 20-30-40 grand stretch or even more. The paint looks OK but you guys know that cars look better on computers then they do live. The engine compartment did not look refinished so the engine and tranny and all other items have to be removed to do the correct job. Then you have the refinishing of all the brackets, the valve cover, the brake booster, all the lines and on and on and on. He needs to get the fuel filter bracket back where it should be and what about the steering wheel, wiring harness, shift boot and all the other ton of things. There are so many things down to every bolt and screw if he want's to get that meticulous. For example just refinishing the buckles on the luggage straps because frequently they have some corrosion on them is a chore. The strykers, rubber seals, glass maybe, all the plating etc. I think I may have found for my car the last original windshield in the Nissan Warehouse in Tennessee. So is it restored if you use an aftermarket winshield. I think I am getting ahead of myself here but I think you guys know where I am coming from. Now I know what your thinking you don't have to go that crazy. However if it's #237 not doing it on that car might be an injustice. The car is valuable because of it's VIN. As a matter of fact you could buy the car in my opinion clean it up some and sell it for at least twice as much or more. Having said all of that I think $7500 is cheap for one of the first 500. I would buy it site unseen and make it a project. It is well worth the while and extremely hard to come by. I can't impress upon the fact enough how valuable this car is. It may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the series One Datsun 240z enthusiast. McKrack
  12. I know of this car. It is not a restored car. If it was it's a real bad job. The car needs alot of work from interior to engine compartment. No emissions has european balance tube. Some other things are missing. I can see this car costing from head to toe about 20 grand to do it correctly. Having said that $7500.00 is a steal in my book for one of the first 500 cars made. BUY IT before someone else does right out from under you. It's a valuable car and an opportunity that doesn't come along often. McKrack
  13. Wow that's a lot of stuff there. Well I don't agree with consistently driving over 3500 RPMs. I don't agree with the poor mans tune up every 500 miles if you drive the car in stop and go traffic. I agree with the oil changes unless you are using Synthetic. I also agree with changing the antifreeze every 2 years. I never heard of turning your heat on in the summertime for additional cooling. It may help the engine but it isn't going help the driver when he or she is sweating in the car and the back of the legs are stuck to the seats. I agree with disconnecting the lead to the battery if it's going to sit for a month. I actualy have a habit of doing that for any longer then two weeks. Check the engine running temp I must assume that means checking to see if the thermostat is working correctly. This is a lot of info and some of it is just common sense. Some I don't know. But your post really helps and thanks for the info. McKrack

I was wondering if any one has any statistics regarding colors painted by Nissan for 240z cars. I was under the impression that Orange which BTW is the color of my car was the most popular color used. Any body happen to know? McKrack

Granted he may be a very nice guy and I am sure the car live is porobably a nice specimen but I'm not in to the car. What's with the hood ?
  16. Mckrack replied to WingZr0's post in a topic in Open Discussions
I don't like the car. Not much else to say. McKrack
  17. Thanks Will I appreciate the advice. As for a Mike Hunt or whoever I have absolutely no idea who that guy is but if he wants to chime in on the body side molding issue I would be intetersted in his thoughts on the matter. Other then that I don't get the post. McKrack
  18. I wish I knew. I can't even get the airfilter housing stickers on so they won't fall off. If they are self adhesing maybe get some prepsol from the body shop and then heat up the stripes with a hair dryer just a little so the glue softens up and then have someone hold a string line to put them on straight or follow the line of the rocker panels. Use the prepsol to clean off any residue on the paint and let dry. It's great stuff and in no way will damage the paint. Should look nice when your done. McKrack
  19. It was requested of you to stop. Let's stay on topic please. Thanks again for the help. McKrack
  20. What how can that be what are they out of their minds.
  21. Thanks again for all the opinions. I have some time to decide but I'm probaly going to leave them off. I do think though that the body side moldings somehow sharpen the lines of the car. As for 26 I didn't think I would get so many responses. As for the other stuff you posted you almost sound like your angry at someone or something. Kind of sounds like you are being a little sarcastic. But thanks for the advice and no I don't think I'm going to be putting a bra on my car. Thanks again guys. McKrack
  22. Yeah I could get some stick ons but I'm afraid if I wanted to take them off it might pull the fresh paint right off the car. McKrack
  23. Thanks everybody for your opinion. I thought you could possibly stick them on but if holes have to be drilled I'm not doing that. However I do kind of like them. There were some responses like from that 26th something about her majesty or something that I didn't quite get. Maybe just joking or somehting and the other guy David. What in the world were you talking about. I do think I recognized Mr. K in that picture. Was that him? As for the other folks who are they? Anyway thank you very much for your opinions. McKrack
  24. Hi Everyone, Well after a fairly long and grueling experience my series one car will finally be done within the next few days and I wanted to get your opinion on something. After looking at probably hundreds of Early 240z,& 260z and 280 Z cars I am toying with the idea of using the correct vinyl body side moldings on the car. I do know that this was either an aftremarket or accessory part back in the early 70s. Probably more an aftermarket item that dealers installed on many 240z cars especially. I think that those side moldings adds something to the look of the car but I just can't figure out why I seem to like the car better with them installed. What's your take on this if you have one and does anyone know if those moldings were black or were they the same color as the car or close to it. Thanks for your thoughts on this. McKrack

Heah I getbthose cars mixed up. Sorry it's the G35 that the 350z was born from. As for the 280 cars. Whatever floats you boat as they say. I like the original 240z series one cars however I would never exclude 280 cars from my driveway. There fine. I'm more a purist.
