I wonder what the power/performance delta is between that L20 and the US L24-L28 series. I'll have to poke around and dig that up. I need more space.

WOW - This part was just laying under the hood up against the radiator. It wasn't attached. I'm glad it didn't blow away while running down the road. It even has an emblem, didn't see that before.

The grill looks like a home made mesh job but I can see in the files Allan attached it may be original. I can't really tell. I'll go take a picture.

Shouldn't the speedo be in Kilometers? Alan T. - You did good on describing this vehicle and it's options.

I have no idea what parts are original or what parts may not be. Condition is kind of rough. I've been watching it for a couple of months and decided I should save it from the crusher and keep some parts alive. I have a couple of phone pics , will post more pics tomorrow. Engine says L20 and the darn steering wheel is on the wrong side. I don't want it , maybe somebody can use some stuff on it. I also got the title with the car. Serial number on the firewall says GS31 010623 - I think it's a Fairlady but is it?- Hello from Australia
I lived at 33 Woralul Street Waramanga ACT -from 1973 to 1979 My Dad was in the US Air Force an worked at the US Embassy. Fond memories - Tidbinbilla, Lake Burrinjuck, Wombeyan Caves, War Memorial, Quenbeyan Golf Course HAHAHA - One day I am going back there to visit. It's on my list of s-t-d.- Hello from Australia
Welcome! I lived in Canberra for 6 years.- Bought my 240z a makeover =)
Awesome! Looking forward to pics.- Parting out Series 1 - 240Z
Thanks- Parting out Series 1 - 240Z
Pulled the radio tonight. Does anyone know what wires I need to ground and apply power to bench test? I'm wary of hosing this little gem up. All the knobs and dials function fine. There is even a little baggy with a spare fuse attached to one of the wires. I'm not sure what it is worth, if anyone is interested PM me an offer.- Parting out Series 1 - 240Z
Thanks guys. The dash is cracked but a lot of the other parts are nice. I have 4 series one cars to pull from so I'm also making sure I have enough to put mine back together. There is a lot of interest so I appreciate everyone's patience as I poke through my pile and reply. I'm still learning parts and identification so I may take a day to get back with everyone. Thanks- Parting out Series 1 - 240Z
After a lot of thought I've decided to part this car out to fund the build of another. I'll also post this in the classifieds. PM me if you have a need. I have a friend who is in the international shipping business out of Houston's port, so I might be able to help some of you folks down under on larger parts. I'm checking into that option. Thanks- 72/73 Automatic Tranny Shift Rod - Wrong ???
The part pictured is not for a Datsun 240Z. I hit 7 junk yards in San Antonio yesterday and Z cars are few and far between. I found a 77 2+2 Auto at the last junk yard and found the shift rod. $75 dollars later it was mine. Pretty expensive. Not too many Z's around here anymore. I'm going to start buying junk Z's to pull.save, and sell parts. I can't stand to see these things crushed when they are still wearing usefull parts.- 3/72 240Z Automatic Transmission - What part hooks to this connector
I got this car running today. When the motor was rebuilt the distributor shaft was put in 180º out. Learned a lot troubleshooting this issue. Car cranked, had planty of spark, plenty of fuel but would not start. Read about getting #1 piston to TDC on compression stroke and once I did that the distributor cap was nowhere near the #1 spark plug hole on the cap. Pulled the oil pump off and rotated the shaft 180. Put it back together and it fired right up. Ran it for a while and then sprung a leak on a metal tube that connects the water from the passenger side over to the carb side. It had a little hole in it that I was able to weld shut with my MIG. I took it for a short drive this evening not exceeding 15MPH. It's running on a straight pipe and sounds pretty good. Couple more things to button up on it and then it's back to working on my car. Thanks for everyone's help.- Positive battery terminal safety tip
Why not just flip the battery around where the negative is close to the fender? Any issues that I may not be aware of?- 72/73 Automatic Tranny Shift Rod - Wrong ???
The shifter was disconnected from the shift rod on the automatic tranny. I'm not even sure this is the correct part/parts since it doesn't fit or at least I can't squeeze it in there. The PO may have been scrounging parts and this may not be original. It was in a box I received with the car. Can anyone confirm that these are correct or post a picture of what I should be looking for? I'll continue to search in the mean time. Thanks- 3/72 240Z Automatic Transmission - What part hooks to this connector
UPDATE I received the part today and plugged it in. The car cranked right over perfectly. Please see attached pics of the part Nissan now uses. Thanks for the help. I learned a lot chasing this down. Sympton - Car won't crank, click noise under dash, no power to starter solenoid when trying to crank. Keywords -240Z Automatic, crank, click, part #, number, firewall, missing, plug, starter- What makes the z special to you?
Made friends with a dude in high school who had a 75. I rode everywhere in that car with him and enjoyed the heck out of it. Bought a 78 in 88 when I was a senior and drove it like I stole it. Wrecked it one day when I leaned over to pick up a compact disk. Drifted of into a culvert and hit a pole going 20MPH. Bent the frame rails pretty good. Sold it for parts. Joined the Airforce and bought a 77 in Denver in 1990. Some kids ran a red light and T-boned me. Only had a week before I was to leave so couldn't get it fixed. Insurance company gave me $2200 and I bought a Honda Magna when I got back home to San Antonio and rode it all the way to Virginia. I found 3 Series 1's since september that I'm trying to make a good car out of. One is running and I drive it on the farm daily, the other is a parts car and the third is the one I'm fixing up. I love these cars.- 3/72 240Z Automatic Transmission - What part hooks to this connector
I called Courtesy Nissan to track down the part now that I was armed with terms like "Relay arse'y Type K-18" and "A.L.R Relay". That did nothing for the parts guy. He said he couldn't cross reference at all. I emailed a picture of the part and told him where it was mounted and he responded with the information below. Maybe this is useful to somebody out there scratching there head like me. If it's not good data or misinformation let me know and I will edit to remove.- 3/72 240Z Automatic Transmission - What part hooks to this connector
E - Unbelievable ! All the stars line up now. Thanks so much. Thanks to everyone. I'll post an update after I get it running. Thanks- 3/72 240Z Automatic Transmission - What part hooks to this connector
Thank you for pointing me to the 73 schematic. I'll see if I can dig one up.- I got blasted!
Awesome. If you don't mind, what does something like that run? I'm west of San Antonio and was thinking having this done or buying a setup from Eastwood. Thanks - Drug this home today
