I ordered mine with long runners and whort horns. You can get any length horns you want and you don't have to hang out here very long to realize everyone has an opinion of what different size horns will do..... Size DOES matter! steve77

The advantages are somewhat subjective. It is larger, yet 'smaller'. Yes, it holds 17 gallons. That's kinda a bummer, but who says you have to fill it? the great thing is, it is 'square'. It extends 'left' barely past the diffy. More exhaust and ground clearance. Also, I am putting a ZX harness in this car temporarily and the tank is plug-n-play with the ZX gauges and all. not to mention rust-free. steve77

Moyest has a really great coupla threads going on his recent Weber install and he brings up a couple of the points I wanted to reiterate here, but didn't want to hyjack his thread. This thread is about Mikuni's, and they aren't installed yet. I shopped for at least a month for a set of triples until I found this guy: Wolf Creek Racing . I shopped for mani's alone for 200-500, a single here for $150 and a double there for $500 and numerous sets of triples for anywhere from 750 - 1500. I'm not saying these type of deals won't work for someone, but for me Wolf Creek is a BARGAIN. Here is his first e-mail and I will tag on a couple a pix of the work. Steve, You happen to be in luck, that's part of our racing business, Mikuni carbs, parts & Manifolds. First off, let me tell you about us and how we do our carb setups. We only sell completely refurbed carbs that are setup to your engines specifications and expected driving scenario. Whether it be street, autcross or race. We have a complete stock of all jets, venturis and soft parts for the Mikuni/Solex carbs. We also have an extensive inventory of manifolds, insulators and some linkage pieces although linkage bits are becoming very scarce. When we do a complete carb setup, it is customized to your needs and we include a copy of the Mikuni Tuning Manual as well as two extra sets of jets for tuning purposes. BTW, we only deal with Datsun/Nissan manifolds. That's where our expertise comes in. With that being said, we can configure a set of triples 44's on a Cannon Manifold with linkage and refurbed insulators with new o-rings. We can configure the setup with air horns or filters, but not both. Your choice completely setup, ready to bolt on and run including Mikuni tuning manual, 2 extra sets of jets for tuning and shipping to SoCal for $1275. I have attached a couple of pix of a recently completed setup for you to see our work. I also have a neat JDM HKS manifold as opposed to the Cannon. It is a long runner as well. I attached a couple of those pix too. Your choice, they are roughly the same as for dimensions. Let me know your interest, and thanks for looking, Todd Walrich Wolf Creek Racing 516-635-6775

I know no one asked to see, but JUST IN CASE you ever wondered what a ZX tank would look like in a 1st gen., here are a couple shots of mine. steve77

What is allowed for brakes in GT2? I am assuming for engine, just about anything goes. But what about brakes? steve77

The best part is it had a GENUINE elephant oil cap! 1/'72 sitting in a gravel lot. Beautiful chartreuse paint job. E88/roundtops Slutted mags Auto. Rust showing in the T/C gussets, both front rockers, both doglegs, battery tray/firewall and a silver dollar-sized series of bubbles around the "2" on the hatch. $2700 Worth about $100 in CA. Contrast that with a 76 currently in the weekly photo rag. Rare! Classic! All original. $12,000. That is not a typo. Worth about $100 in CA. Myopia strikes again. steve77

From doing some pretty heavy research the past couple of days on each of their respective sites, I have made some deductions: The Luminition looks like a VERY NICE system. Looks very simple to install and has all the bells and whistles. Also easy to add programmable management to, and easy adaptation to lots of additional do-dads like a/f mixture meters timing and boost controls. Unfortunately, it is also the most expensive ($3-400) and is made in England. Perhaps, though they have done something to 'Luminate' the 'Darkness'. Ouch. Comparing the 6AL, Mallory Hyfire VI and Crane HI6 (funny they all have the same name) it seems MSD is WAY behind on the technology curve. I suppose this is why you can buy 6A's for under $100 and AL's for a bit more. The other two are digital, and the MSD is analog. It is just an interesting observation the Hyfire and HI6 only come with rev limiters built-in, while with MSD, you must choose a different unit to get this option (6A/6AL). Not a big deal, but interesting from a marketing/progression standpoint. Also the former two do not require chips to set rev limits. From studying installation procedures on the Crane unit, it APPEARS to this ignorant soul the ONLY reason to keep the OE EI control is to maintain the OE tach. An aftermarket tach runs directly off the CD unit. At first the Mallory and Crane units seemed prohibitively expensive compared to the MSD. It seemed you could burn up almost three 6AL's for the price of the others. But JEGS currently has a deal where you get a HI-6 and a LX92 coil for $199. That's more like it! I have plenty of ZX parts laying around and as of this moment think a well-operating ZX dizzy and aftermarked tach combined with a Crane Hi-6 unit and coil will be a solid way to go. Corrections welcome. steve77

Todd has a couple Mallory's listed here(used) for a pretty good price. Wolf Creek Racing So... (SER) you have a stock dizzy with the 700 replacing the points (and providing the EI??) AND you add a multi-spark thingy like the HI6 (or 6AL) to that? Or does the 700 box go away? This is part of what confuses me. True or False: A HI6or a 6AL will RUN an engine. Or is it just an addition to the EI from some other source? Whether or not I need an EI 'base' to add an 'ignition enhancer' to will really help me decide which direction to go with the dizzy and EI itself. See? I told you I was mussed up! steve77
  17. Wow. That's a good price. I would have never thought of looking there. steve77

Anyone know about Luminition? Was reading through the Paeco catalogue (not the grandest endorsement, I know) the other day and stumbled on to it. Sounds good, but hey, they all sound good in a catalogue. Another thing I find interesting: MSA and VB sell only Crane, and yet you have to look REALLY HARD to find even so much as a little 700 box. I don't believe I have EVER seen a HI-6 box. Go to a big Z show, or even a regular car show or an autocross and do a little poll. You will end up about 20/1 6A boxes over anything Crane. Is it just because MSD is so much cheaper? The HI-6 and 6A do the same thing, right? steve77

Ordered my motor and carbs and now have to start thinking about ignition. Since I have always been the FI guy, most of this is all very foreign and complicated to me. how does a car run without a computer?!?!?! Hoping to start a little banter about likes and dislikes, plusses and drawbacks, sweet revelations and horror stories, car-BQ's or more power in different places, etc. I know I am going to leave someone out, and there are a lot of cross-over systems, but try and select the most ADVANCED piece of equipment on your car. steve77

  21. Hmmm interesting. The vent systems on these '72's and '73's are insame. As if all that crap in the back and the air tank weren't enough, we have vapor vent lines up the ying-yang. This thing is coming out on my race car. steve77

  23. Hey! What the hell is that? So weird...I was JUST going to post a query about that hard-line that runs to the fuel tank. And here you have a picture of it. It is on my '73. What did it do? steve77
