  1. Thanks to all the kind support from my friends and loved ones here on 240.org....I just bought a Torsen 12mm R-200. Had a tough time comparing all the issues involving all the respective 'playas'...I thought it the best alternative. Hope I didn't go wrong. Hello CV joints! steve77(and a 73 that will probably not burn rubber, but will smoke you all) hehehehehehehehehehehe
  2. Hey!!! I would but BAMBIKILLER across the side of the car and a set of deer horns on the hood! In the "sponsor" column of my race reg, I put 'CARL THE BIG CHEESE'. Wouldn't that be enough? steve77

This poor little car needs an LSD but it's daddy can not afford one. Please help. Just think, for $17.35 a month, you could help this little car have a future in racing. Look around at the things you have and then consider the life of embarassment this helpless little one-tire-smoker will endure if compassionate individuals like yourself do not give a tiny bit. Look at the fear and uncertainty in it's eyes. This little car just wants to have the life of a normal little car. It wants to run and play on strong, well-fed legs. Look at the poor little thing wasting away. Help it have the childood it deserves! There are more important things in a car's life than constantly worrying where the next LSD will come from. Don't condemn this innocent child to a lifetime of pain. Time is running out! Thousands of little cars just like this die every day on the course. Very soon this car will be re-assembled and without a LSD, it will just wither and die. You can help! Operators are standing by 24 hours a day. Call 1-800-buysteveaLSD and warm your heart. God bless you for your generosity. steve77
  4. Got a couple e-mails already from people wanting me to send it to them. That is unnessesary. It's really simple to make it your desktop 'wallpaper': Open the picture or hover over the one on the front page Right-click on the picture Select 'Save as wallpaper....' That's it. steve77
  5. This is only screen size, as I use it for wallpaper..... I think it is actually in the galleries somewhere, as i am almost positive i originally got it from this site.....don't know if it is digitally 'bigger'.....just be sure and stretch it or play with it in shop.......... steve77

Just bought a new wire-feed! Woohoo! Ought to be fun--after all I have heard about their ease of use.... Haven't welded for 15 years since academy shop and all we learned was acetylene brazing and welding and arc (stick) welding. So, this will be interesting...... Need to clear up some floorpan issues and then start building some frame stiffeners/cage items. (yes, I know I need a notcher and a bender and it is a ton of work and is cheaper to buy one and...........) Anyways.... A. What is the smallest, thinnest pipe size for cages allowed? I assume it only needs to be mild steel and I want the smallest diameter possible and naturally the lightest. I'm sure wall thickness and diameter is subjective or relationary to each other but imagine it all weighs the same/foot? B. If you have a home-made cage and applied for or ever came under the scrutiny of governing bodies, some sort of testing would be performed? C. Is there a minimum sole plate size/thickness? I have observed quite a few custom set-ups and will obviously build and tie it in a good as possible, but just want to make sure I don't break any minimums I don't know about. I searched around a bit but only came up with "exhaust pipe size". steve77

    >>>>The bolts that connect the brackets to the dash (not the gauges to the brackets) go into sliding, trapped nuts for adjustment.<<<<< Oh yeah, you're right...and also the front valance/fender connection is square nuts trapped in sliding boxes.... So what's the official term for this 'capturing'? Is htere a different term than nuts that are 'captured' by spotwelding? steve77
  9. Hey! You stole my wallpaper for the homepage! 3, 4, 5, or 6 pour moi... steve77

How much money do you have? Or how much research and legwork are you willing to do? There are several painless conversions available for $$$....Ground control, Arizona Z Car etc..... hell, i think even MSA has a set. Or you can do it the hard, cheap way...Carerra and others sell all the parts for very cheap, but you have to figure out what to get. Then there's strut length to think about to. I'm in the process of building my own adjustable height set-up as we speak, and I am feeling my way through it from several years of web surfing, bumming info off people who have done it, and hands on comparisons and experiments with spare parts. So I can't really comment because if it doesn't work, I will feel really stupid! Good luck! steve77
  11. Yes, I have the turbo pump on my green car and love the way the needle stays planted up there above half-way most of the time. But....I have a PILE of standard pumps laying here and was thinking of retrofitting one for this new car. Is there any identifying marks on the outside of the pump that would indicate it was a 'turbo' pump? steve77
  12. What is the difference between a turbo oil pump and a standard one that has been retrofitted with the stiffer springs? Is there somethng else that needs to be done to the standard pump? steve77

Mike is going to need to add a bunch more as soon as people start writing in with brands I have forgot or never heard of..... Just curious. Personally, I prefer Craftsman, but I have been buying quit a bit of Husky (from Home Depot). Lifetime warranty.....I beat the living sh*t out of a breaker bar with a sledgehammer, managed to snap it and they exchanged it no questions asked! steve77

    >>>>>>No changing of suspension geometry could also mean that shortened springs, camber plates, adjustable bushings aren't legal either.... you'd have to scour the rules for the class and find out exactly what mods you are allowed before you try to figure out what you aren't allowed...<<<<<<< FWIW, they are quite specific about what IS allowed...lowered springs, coil-overs, camber plates, spherical bushings, adjustable perches, cut tubes, moved perches, shortened shocks....... steve77

Just started Auto-Xing and am hooked! I have this '73 in the garage I have been building into something a bit hotter than the green car and now it looks like this bug I have will turn it into a auto-X car. First of all, NO, I haven't sprung for the SCCA book. But there are a few places on line where the rules are posted, give or take a little......! I have been running in BSP, as that was where I was told to go. But reading the SP rules has me wondering if I am legal. Most of the Z's I read about who compete on a national SOLOII level are FP. I think from reading the rules the basic 'theme' for SP is the car is still street legal. You and I both know you can build a Z beyond SP rules and still get registered. A few things that have me concerned about my running BSP in both my current car and especially things planned for the '73: "No changing of susp. geometry as in pivot points or ball location" (as I read this, bump-steer spacers would be illegal in BSP. Changing the pivot point on the front arms obviously would be out, but EVERYBODY has bump-steer spacers! "No lightened engine parts." This would include a 13lb flywheel, I suppose! "Updating and backdating of drivetrain AS LONG AS THE WHOLE DRIVETRAIN UNIT IS RETAINED." So my 81 L28 with '77 5-speed and 74 R200 would not be a UNIT, no? "No frame rail stiffeners" This is a no-brainer for Z's with rusty floorpans.... "no part of cage passing through firewall." Now, if there are bolts traveling through the firewall from the three-point brace into the dash bar, is that considered "cage passing through firewall"? There is also some really grey area surrounding removal of bumpers in both the 'street legal' section and the 'body modifications' section. Those of you who know care to comment? steve(5 friggin seconds behind BSP leader, but ahead of the C4's)77
  17. Keith, you once replied to a query of mine with a 'easier-to-count' diffy table with 10/x output/driveshaft numbers. Now I have searched and can not find it. I have a 10/17.75 R200 I just found in the back of this '73 I am stripping. Can you repost the numbers? steve77

  20. Well, I managed to get both fenders on and primed and the undercoating removed from the wells, the hood installed and primed, both doors installed and primed, the interior primed, and began puttying a little here and there. Rolled it out in the sunsine and let it BAKE all day long. This is starting off as a very productive weekend!!! At this rate I will be driving it by...um.... well.........Christmas? steev77
  21. The Z Corral at the 2003 Monterey Historics is a reality! We made the deadine and sold enough passes to secure the parking area. BUT! There are 6 spaces left!!! And now that the lot is actually happening, EVERYONE will want to come. Here's the deal: We sold 35 TICKETS, but they represent only 29 CARS (some have two persons inside). That means we have 6 PARKING SPACES left for Z's. I know a quite a few of you have been sitting on the fence waiting to see if we could pull this thing off and now these last few passes will go instantly. For these last few spaces, you must purchase the regular grandstand ticket directly through Laguna Seca Raceway ($45). Once you have tickets, call or e-mail Mark Davey at 831-662-8253 (DAVEYMSJ@aol.com) and he will give you one of the Z Corral Parking Passes. Hurry!!!! (and remember: You MUST bring a Z) Steve McConnell, Director Central Coast Z Car Club 746 Via Bandolero Arroyo Grande, CA 93420 805-441-6856

Specifically: I have a 280 hood I want to put on this '73. I would like to strip the three-odd coats of paint off the vents. What should I use? steve77

I don't care how bad you hate ZX's...these are a MUST HAVE. These are instant '79-83 OEM' class winners at whatever show you go to. Oh and despite the "rear jump seat' verbiage, these are not 2+2's.... steve77
  25. Anyone have grand Z plans for the long weekend? I do. I figure, if I can get 8 hours total between now and Monday morning, I can strip the undercoating and re-install both front fenders and then prime the entire car. That is my goal. Any extra will be spent dropping the diffy and susp off this POS 73 in my garage so I can GET IT OUT OF HERE AND GET MY WIFE OFF MY CASE!!!!! (Keith, you are so lucky) Anyone else have Z plans? steve77
