Kinda off topic, but I have USAA and my '77 has a salvage title. They told me they could give me Liability and all that but could not underwrite any comprehensive coverage on a car with a salvage title. I got this "can't" attitude from two levels of employees until I insisted there must be a way now that I have a little over $6000 in receipts on it and it is 100% roadworthy. Finally got a honcho and if I write them a letter explaining the imporvements and a brief history, along with copies of some of the major receipts and a cost breakdown(I volunteered this part because I have one in EXCEL), they will grant me comp. steve
  3. HEY! That's MY nose job! The colour appears to be the normal Lemans Sunset. steve

Well, I for one find this sort of industrial anthropology fascinating. It is really interesting to watch the influence of the Japanese automobile on the American manufacturers. Those of you who have been driving for 20+ years will appreciate the parking brake (pedal to the left of the clutch with a hand release lever)/emergency brake (lever somewhere on the tunnel OR 'pull-and-twist' below steering wheel) transition. Can this move be tied directly to the Japanese industrial invasion? Or is it strictly the size of the automobile that dictates this brake placement (my LS-400 has a parking brake!)?What was the first American car you remember which had an 'emergency brake'? Pinto? Chevette? What about amber turn signals? Now quite a few American cars have them. Why? Are they safer? Do they look better? DOT obviously has not decided the three-circuit tail light is inferior, or all American cars would have ambers. Keep 'em coming Alan. steve
  5. >>>>I agree with Carl, the price is way to low, so there has to be something wrong hidden somewhere<<<<< Is it coming from DK? steve

And that's EXACTLY what you said! Sorry 2many, I missed "ones that got 5 lug wheels were the turbos. " on the end of that sentence. steve
  7. Zvoiture replied to justaZcarguy's post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Actually, I believe the correct transition would be 4-lug through the 85 model year for N/A. Turbo Z31 was 5-lug all years. steve

Yeah, a lot of the Gotti's are black inside. If I don't sell these, I amgoing to do the centers in really dark charcoal metallic. It will be a breeze to do a good job, because the centers come out! I can probably get all four in the oven! steve
  9. Hey, those wheels are unbelievable. I am having a hard time someone even put the thought into them. But Ronal???? But check this out: Can you imagine putting them on a racer? Woudn't that be a hoot? Can yo imagine getting your arse kicked by a car with teddy-bear wheels? Talk about getting some attention.... And don't even start on the Z31 stuff. A Z is a Z is a Z. They are quite nice cars.... Oh, and my wine usually runs somewhere between 14.5 and 15.5% alcohol, so any toe-jam is instantly neutralized! Hell, it neutralizes your brain too.... steve

Oh, this blows! One at a time! I HAVE to find a new place to host photos. Anyways, check out the 'Bee-Gees' font! As an aside, I was just cruising through the 'Paul Newman' issue of SPORTZ Magazine and noticed Mr. Newman's IMSA car has the Gotti logo prominently displayed on it. steve

Interesting. It seems yahoo has decided that you must be a member to view photos--at least today! Hmmmm. Well, let's try this 'attachment' thing. I like them 'hosted' dammit (stomps foot)!

Seriously. Say for instance you buy somewhat of a beater Z which can be driven. Do you make it good-looking first? Or do you make it purr/roar first? Is the first thing on the agenda sharp-looking wheels? Or a new exhaust system? Do you get rid of the points disty or the torn seats? Do you buy a K&N intake or matching side mirrors? Do you re-build a 5-speed or start pulling dings? Do you install a 3-core or rear deck carpet? Suspension bushings get replaced or the peeling bumpers get replaced? steve

I don't know about 75 and 76, but 77 and 78 are quite different in the mounting brackets. There are raised lateral humps on the floor at the front bracket area and the front of the brackethooks over it. The seats attach MUCH easier than 240 seats, as they are like most modern seats, using a 14mmcap bolt through the top into a nut welded inside the body. The front bolts are parallel to the road. 240 seats are a PAIN! steve
  17. Where's that program where you can put a set of wheels on your model of car to see what they look like? steve

I ran into several 14" Gotti's in my research...mostly Renault Alpine stuff. Is there a FAQ section here on "Re-sealing a 3-piece wheel"? steve
  19. Zvoiture replied to Zvoiture's post in a topic in Wheels & Brakes
Wow, thanks...That's a lot of great info. I'm not too worried about wheyther the will fit under the fender...because I am flaring and maybe boxing. There are two reasons for my query: 1. A really great set of Gotti 14's just dropped into my lap. 2. I have reasoned (in my oft-wrong little mind) a drastically lowered Z could: a. stay closer to the ground b. with minimal fender re-configuration c. and fill the well better d. on cheaper tires on 14's rather than 15's. steve

I got them! The Gotti's that is... Guy got back to me and said he wanted $20 each for them. Don't say bargains don't exist! steve

Finally got it home and cleaned up the paint. Changed the 'road tar' that was the oil and put a quart of Hyper-Lube in it. Cross referenced a few filters and found one about twice the size of stock (I can't believe the dinky little filters on these new motors!). Almost rand it dry of gas on the short trip home--it was reqally running crappy on the 1 YO gas. Limped into Chevron and put some fresh 91 and FI cleaner in it. WOO HOO! It loves me now! Seats are out at the upholsterers...started all the little broken stuff...wiper blades, rear view mirror, side view mirror, steering wheel wrapping, rear panels, carpet. But the most important: Washing the poor thing. Took off the door mouldings (Nissan used REALLY good tape) and took a little haze cutter to her. Haven't waxed or anything yet, but looking pretty good. steve
