Yeah, they're just not worth it. STarting at a hundred bucks each, that doesn't buy much time spent mussing with them. I think store-bought braces are a bargain. steve77- I got the coolest Father's Day present...
My wife gave me an English language Skyline brochure. To call this thing a 'brochure' is like calling Hearst Castle a 'country house'. This thing is BEAUTIFUL. It is for the R-33 GTR V-spec. I don't know where she got it or how much it cost, but it comes in this black box and is an odd-sized four-ringed 'binder' with an embossed aluminum GT-R emblem on the cover and vellum pages and wonderful glossy pages, etc., etc., etc.... IT IS SOOOO UNBELIEVABLE!!! Now I have to figure out where she got it. She claims not on E-Bay. steve77- Strut Bar Plans / Specs
Here's a homemade brace(s). Friend's fast SOLO II car... steve77- 1st 350Z in Texas!
'Harsher' that he liked????? Mebee he needs to ride with some of us! This somewhat explains why the car pictured is an auto. I'm pretty mixed on it...of course we will like it...may take a few years...new things are always like that...think back to when they re-designed the Mustang, or the Corvette...or the 7-series Bimmer--OK, bad example.......The rear end is pretty bad...there's actually a few things that are pretty bad...but, things change, times move on...we'll get used to it. I'm sure it is a beautiful package. I'm actually thinking about the G35 Coupe for my wife. If I decide to buy one, will you all still be my friends? steve77- Great 1970 Z car in Grassroots Motorsports Magazine
"Well, since you quoted me I'll have to say one thing. " Just giving you a hard time! Not disputing you.... I have a tendency to read magazines in two sittings. When it comes in the mail I gleefully race through it absorbing as much info as I can. Then a few hours or a few days later (depending if it's GRM or Martha Stewart Living) I sit down with it and read it c-to-c. On this issue, I went through and said, "Oh, yeah, nice turbo." Then when I sat down to read it, that's when I noticed the whole 4-bbl/H2o injection.... Nice car. Not my 'cup of tea' engine-wise, but nice package all around. steve77- No caption

"car is beautiful, and the owner has put a 280ZX Turbo engine in it with many other well thought out modifications. Great story, great pics, and a lot of useful info for " Before anyone runs out and buy the magazine for info about that ZX Turbo swap...ya might wanna read it again! I think there's a couple of other 'issues' involved on this car! Let's just say I don't think 'Gumby' is a fan of FI! steve77- Robert Akin Death...
Oh yes, we have 'heard' of Mr. Bell over here! Flip on Speedvision-err-SPEED-errrrr-The Nascar Channel on just about any weekend and you will find DB behind the wheel of something either being chased or chasing something. And they always go to his on-board camera and mike and he will have these long conversations with the hosts WHILE RACING! "kkckckckckc..Yeah, they really have me working here today... arghhh.... kckckckckc... Man! This guy is really pushing me, he got me on the outside on that one corner and then I managed to outbrake him up at 4 and he is RIGHT on my tail... kckckckck..if I can just hold... hrhrhrhrhr... him off and hopefully put a bit of distance between us.... Now this corner is kinda tricky... you have to approach it JUST right and then, arghhhhh, and then you come right through here and....." AND ALL OF THIS WHILE ROAD RACING!!!!! What a talent. Audi lately, huh? steve77- Great 1970 Z car in Grassroots Motorsports Magazine
The letter from the Editor of the Aug. issue pretty well sums up why the magazine is so fantastic. Great philosophy. I really liked the little dig at the other car mags...something like, '..high on snobbery, low on technical know-how...'! steve- Blackhawk All-Nissan 6/23/02
There's a group driving up from SD/LA and a caravan from Sacto. For info on each contact SDZC or ZONC (both listed at ZCCA.ORG) I'm attending, but not with a Z. My wife says, "I just got my hearing back from the trip to MSA." steve77- Robert Akin Death...
Just got my Aug. GRM....Little blip in there about Rober Akin dying "as a result of injuries sustained..." while testing "... a 1988 Nissan GTP ZX." I didn't know him. In this article, they indicate he spent most of his career racing Porsches, but I was curious if his involvement with Z or ZX's was deeper than they let on. Anybody know of him? steve77- Unorthadox Pulley Kits
Hey, JSOILEAU, welcome. You'll like it here. I have heard some stuff along those lines about Paeco too. People are under the impression they are a Z shop. They are just a machine shop that likes to work on imports--mostly European. So they will be making whatever you want just like the machine shop down the street would. They sell that crank pulley for $150 too, which is really tempting, but I have heard of some complications to that too--and it's not a Damper. steve77- What's our club name?!

Greg, are you going to Blackhawk on the 23rd? I am. steve77- Brake Pad & Shoe Question
Hey! can I tag on and ask another question? Which sheds heat better the AL drums or the CI ones? steve77- What's our club name?!
How about: Classic First Generation Datsun Z Car Internet Boys Club?- What's our club name?!
I still feel IZC is too close to the Grandaddy: IZCC (Zhome.com). The other two leaders are pretty much a toss-up. I think they both convey the focus of our group in a direct fashion. I voted for the simpler one. Keep It Simple, Stupid! (not implying anyone here is stupid...) steve77- NOCAL Z meet...Aug. 4th...
There are always things for sale at meets like this. Not a huge amount of parts--it's not like a bug-o-rama where there is a huge parking lot spread with parts! But there will be cars for sale and vendors and usually a few people will have a door panel or a front dam to sell. But EVERYBODY has parts back home and meeting these people for contact later is good. The cars for sale part (at car shows) is the funny part...I'm not convinced an auto show is the best place to get a good deal on a classic car! I think hype and charisma are not good enviornments for buying cars...At the MSA show there were a few cars for sale initially, and by the end of the day, it seemed like every other car was for sale. There were hand-lettered signs popping up everywhere. People were overheard saying, "...If that thing is worth $5000, then mine is worth at least 4!".... It was pretty funny to watch. There were a bunch of really everpriced Z's there. My favorite was the TOTALLY TRASHED 77-78 TOTALLY BONE STOCK (but with half dash cap and seat covers, of course) with $3000 wheels and tires for $7500. steve77- Unorthadox Pulley Kits
"the alternator or smog pump yet." I'm pretty sure Paeco sells a billet 'set' with all three. But someone borrowed my cattledog. steve77- L28 block...
This '79 I am dismantling had the lower end of a N47 in it. The front three pistons have a "2 3" stamped into the top and the back three have "3 4". What does this mean? Also the tops of them are scratched somewhat like someone scraped the carbon of them with a putty knofe or something. A couple of them look like someone too a file to the uppermost lip around the dishing. Also, what is the acceptable 'loosness' of a block? With the head off (obviously) and the disty/oil pump removed, I can quite easily turn this thing over with my right hand with the damper pully while 'feeding' the timing chain through my left hand. steve77 steve79 is fast becoming a large pile on the floor- NOCAL Z meet...Aug. 4th...

Anyone around here thinking of going? steve77- Unorthadox Pulley Kits
I am about 99% sure Unorthodox DOES NOT make pulleys for 1G Z's. They are predominately a mod co for DOHC engines pointing the wrong way. They have cool stuff, but I am guessing 240SX is about as far in this direction they would possibly go. steve77- ZX rear disks are SOOO wimpy!
So how hard is it to put these vented fronts on a 240? I read alot about 4-pistons and Toyota calipers and whatnot, but I don't recall ever reading about switching a 240 to ZX venteds. The hub would have to be changed, no? I know the rear is just a drilled plate to hold the calipers. I will probably be doing that. steve77 - Strut Bar Plans / Specs
