"Most of the new cars on the road now are running near to 10:1, " I couldn't believe that! I saw a write-up of Q45 engines on Freshalloy.com and the street version is 10.something :1!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. So I would assume with a 6A or a HI6 a 10+:1 L6 would run better on 91. steve77

In homage to 2many and his 800 RBI's, I have changed my avitar to my loving doggie, Kimba. She runs when I start my Z. Anyone else have a doggie? steve77

Yeah, I know...I just wanted other ideas. Probably will...With flattops, I will be over 10 and with everything 91 now...well....Maybe go flattop and use 2mm? I just want better than 9 and less than 10. steve77

How can I get really close to 10:1 in a L28 without going to flattops? What are the options? There is a lot of unused space in the top of a n42 block that could be used. D crank? steve77

    What is the cc's of a p90 and a n42? I can't seem to find it. Thanks steve77
  6. Hey wish, where is the calqlater? on-line? I have just used zgarage. Where are the CC's of the heads at? I can't find it all of a sudden. I saw it somewhere... steve77

Yesterday SOCALZ and STEVEZCAR (one of the few people with a Z31 to 'get it') cruised over from the Valley in their Z's for no particular reason and we just jabbered in the garage for an hour or so. We motored down to Pismo Beach to observe the weekend crush of humanity and had a great lunch and a pop--and another hour or so of Z talk. After lunch we drove up 101 to SLO where I knew 3 other Z's were parked. We lined up with them and took pictures and basically pretended we had our own private 'meet'! ...And another hour of Z talk. What a great day! The waitress was pretty cute too... steve77
  8. For 4-cyl L series engines. Like in dimes and 210's and stuff. Like: 1600, 2000, 2400, 2800, etc... steve77

"She can sometimes idle rough, so, I'm looking into that. " Vacuum leaks, vacuum leaks, VACUUM LEAKS. Check everythig and then check it again and again. Dipstick tight? PVC operational? cracks in hoses: PCV hose? The hose from the valve cover vent to the tee at the AR takes a beating and must be oil-proof hose. Vac lines to EGR and TB. Boot from AFM to TB must be perfect. I saw your A/c, so there a couple of long ones that go around to the passenger side from the intake. ANY leaks ANYWHERE will affect idle. steve77

Just put you 'best' old injector in the CS. I think VB has the best deal on plug wires. 8.5 mm by Crane for $30-something a set. With the wires I would definitely put a new cap and rotor on...and please don't tell me you have the original coil on! When yu finish geting the ignition and EFI all spruced up, take it to a professional (hopefully a Z person) and have him do some good diagnostics to get everything ticking together. you won't believe how well it will run then! Oh, this will start an argument for sure, but if you have some of those $10 Champion spitfire-crossfire-platinum-titanium-four-way super-resistor-rocket-science-unbelievably-super-duper-high-performance-gauranteed to blow your mind-spark plugs in there, YANK THEM OUT and put the NGK's back in. NGK BPR6ES or the cooler range BPR7ES (NAPA# 2023?) And while you're at NAPA, get a 1773 oil filter and add an extra quart to your system. GAWD, I love NAPA. steve77

Wow. Every hair in it's place...hands aren't even dirty. You're like Martha under the hood. But the hammer on the windshield? Funny that there's 7 injectors on a 6 cylinder engine, huh? The electrical plug on the end of the air reg likes to come unglued and then it spins in it's socket and the lever that runs the bypass to the TB does not contact the valve. The car will run good, but cold idle will be rough or slow. steve77

"From there in the wash to the dryer. Taken out to wear and back on the floor. " That's funny...my first wife did that. Nothing ever went into the closet or drawers. There were piles on the floor that somehow were catagorized in her 'system' by varying stages of 'wear'. Dryer to floor to iron to floor. Very interesting. I, on the other hand, must have EVERYTHING hung up--even t-shirts and stuff. Did I mention we're not married anymore? steve77
  13. Just had it done 4/18 at Z's Unlimited in San Luis Obispo...No carbs.... Items performed: Adjust valves Compression test Check and adjust EFI Check and adjust timing Check complete car Adjust clutch pedal Inspection items noted: Reverse switch leaking Vac Advance not operating Timing chain loose (wearing guides) Possible cracks in AFM boot Minor play in RWBearings He pretty much went over the whole car and we discussed many items when I picked it up that he did not note on the invoice. $120.00 steve77
  14. '77: Normal, every single time until today: Put it in neutral, turn the key, listen for FP, hit the ignition, starts immediately and assumes a cold idle around 1200 and I usually let it idle for 5-10 minutes before driving. No smoke. Note: My foot never goes anywhere near the throttle during all this. Today: Fired right up, but REALLY rough and chugging. Sputtering up and down around 400-500. Seems to be missing really bad and had a tone to it (I had the hood up) like one of the cylinders was hitting something. Smoke starts coming out the tail pipe. I rev it up slightly with the linkage, but it does not smooth out. It continues the same skip. I reved it to maybe 2000. Really smoking at that speed, and running REALLY rough. By now it is starting to get warm but when I take my hand off the linkage, it drops to 200 and JUST BARELY stays alive. Hmmmm... I shut it off and scratch my head. Doesn't make sense. Ran perfectly last week. Hit the ignition again without touching the throttle. Starts instantly and assumes a perfect idle. No smoke. Let it warm for a bit more and take it out for a flawless, spirited run. Huh? steve77
  15. I love these wheels. You mean these: steve77

"Anywhere she can't walk in in bare stockinged (nylons / pantyhose) feet." That was exactly it, too. I had built some furniture for wome people last week and there was a bit of sawdust about. It really came in handy with the wreck I towed in yesterday as I drained the swamps that were floorpans. Also the antifreeze was not content to stay in the radiator. So the sawdust was there "for a reason". She didn't buy it. So, I'm all done now. Four 8' wire shelves put up to hold all the Z goodies. I have 56 aeresol cans of various substances just for the Z. Amazing. steve77

I haven't tried the electric or 'electrolysis' or 'ion' system rust preventers either...I always figured they were snake oil. They were always sold in JCWhitney and, well...'nuf said. On that note, I have been using the NAPA brand 'rust treatment'. Comes in a blue can and costs WAY less ($5) than por-15 and comes in a spray can, which is handy. IMO, it works really good. steve77

She says the garage "is a pig-stye." So guess what I'm doing today? I don't get it...you can TOTALLY walk through it and she can COMFORTABLY park her car next to my two Z's. OK...so there's a couple piles and there is generally a litter of tools around the Z's...There's even white carpet where she gets out of her car. ...Off to 'tidy up'.... steve77

Ditto...the actual 'brand name' of the NAPA's does not ring a bell--however, I have heard of many happy people with NAPA injectors in their Z's....You said cost was no object, but have you--or anybody else--tried the ACCEL injectors? I just noticed them in the JCWhitney cattledog (but I'm sure they are available anywhere ACCEL is sold) and they were like, $35, 45, and $55, depending on the size you need. They even gave a formula for figuring how big you need...sounded like a good price and ought to be a decent product. Anybody try? steve77
  20. Do you like your Z's cheap and easy? Do you enjoy seeing several 1st gen. Z's on the road every day? Do you like wrecking yards full of them? Do you like being able to crack the classifieds and find them for under $1000? --OR-- Do you want them all garaged and rare? Do you want to pay $4000-5000US for a 'poor condition' re-buildable? Do you want master cylinders to cost $500 and windshields $2000? Do you want your 'good-to-pristine' Z to easily sell for more than $10,000? Do you want to be able to put $5000 INTO a Z and get $6000 OUT? steve77
  21. Really stupid question I have wondered a lot about: When you cut your struts (take a section out of them for more travel), How do you know what length cartridge to buy? I have never seen a reference chart for cartridges based on size (like radiators). Everywhere I have shopped just want to sell you the one for "your car". steve77
  22. Yeah, what denotes a 180 LSD? I'm going and picking up a free '79 tomorrow. Plan on stripping it (more than it already has been!) What diffy will be in it? steve77

Saw this in a parking lot today.....Some kind of kit? The interior was really nice, but it looks like some of the body panels have some alignment issues... steve77
  24. "The insurance settlement was $5100! Must have been pretty lucky...." That's why I put that choice in there. That is where I voted too! I bought a '78 for $1700 and it was stolen in Sacramento and I got $2400. steve77

I WANTED the 'California Style' 1157 and 1158. They were backordered and I was talked into the 'Racing Style' 1153. MAjor junk. My first disappointment with MSA, after MUCH happy shopping. steve77
